The teaser trailer for Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours has come online and it’s an odd one. The trailer highlights not only Slumdog Millionaire, but the diversity of Boyle’s filmography. It also looks like the movie shares the same highly-energetic cinematography of Slumdog and the tone appears to be lust-for-life. Then the ending of the trailer hits and we see climber Aron Ralston (played by James Franco) fall into a pit and become trapped under a boulder. It’s an effective close to the teaser, but it is an odd mix of tone. Then again, it’s not going to be easy to sell a film where most the main character alone and trapped under a boulder for most of the runtime.
Hit the jump to check out the teaser trailer. 127 Hours will screen at this year’s London Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. It opens in limited release on November 5th.

Here’s the official synopsis for 127 Hours:
127 HOURS is the new film from Danny Boyle, the Academy Award winning director of last year’s Best Picture, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. 127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clemence Poesy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? A visceral thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.

A hard sell indeed but they will definitely have my money. I'm so glad that such films still happen.
I was impressed with “Hunger” earlier this year with its long, static shots. Can't wait for “Buried”. There is still audience for such films.
i thought that was effin awesome.
This movie looks beautiful. I'll totally be seeing. The ending felt a little weird and abrupt but I think Boyle will be able to hit the beats to keep it interesting.
Wow, very impressed by that trailer…as for Matt's opinion: did you want the whole trailer to be doom and gloom? I think it's great how they build you up through most of it, and then, BAM! Oh Shit! This just got serious.
Looking forward to it.
Didn't they just start filming this a day ago?
And they have to have a second hardcore trailer.
Pretty sure it's been filming for a while. With a november release it has to have been.
Probably better suited for an episode of “I Shouldn't Be Alive”. Seems like they're really padding it with all the music and flashy editing.
THis trailer just made me realize that I only really like one Danny Boyle movie. SUNSHINE even with that crazy 3rd act. Yeah I didn't like Slumdog Millionaire, sue me. And yes I thought 28 weeks later was way better than 28 Days later.
Anyway, this one looks good. That shot of Hot Kate Mara falling was amazing. Looks good but I think the main problem is we already know the ending for the most part.
Why would anyone bother to go watch this crap when we all saw the real idiot on TV for weeks explaining what happened?
