If you’re a fan of the Twilight movies, Summit delivered a few gifts today.  First, they released two new high resolution stills from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and on The Twilight Saga Facebook page, they’ve posted a note from Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon.

While some of you might not be familiar with Bill Condon’s work, he’s previously directed films like Dreamgirls, Kinsey, and Gods and Monsters.  What I’m trying to say is, he’s a fantastic choice and he’s going to get a lot of people that might not care about Twilight interested in the franchise.  I’m definitely excited to see his take on the material.

Hit the jump for the new images and his letter to the fans.

Here’s Condon’s letter and the new stills are at the bottom:

Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland,

I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making BREAKING DAWN. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit – who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.

I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read BREAKING DAWN twice, rewatched Catherine’s and Chris’s movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for “newborn” status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.

Like many of you, I’ve always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series DARK SHADOWS, which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn’t been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making GODS AND MONSTERS thirteen years ago, however, I’ve been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.

The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don’t think it’s difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy – and it all comes to fruition in BREAKING DAWN. This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.

I’m a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert, and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?

Please feel free to ask questions in the comments section below, and I’ll do my best to answer them. I hope that this will be the first of many occasions I’ll get to check in with you as we set to work bringing BREAKING DAWN to the screen. I am excited and grateful to have all of you alongside me for my TWILIGHT journey.

All best,

Bill Condon

P.S. Answer #1: No, there won’t be any musical numbers

Can we get you to sign up on Twitter it was really great having David Slade on board with all of the fans lil things get us hyped! And now about the Movie, can someone please explain to me why we cannot have a L>>O>>N>>G movie why is that we have to sit and wander are we getting 2 movies or 1 we've had numberous 3 and 4 hour long movies is this due to the actors schedule?…… There are alot of high expectations for this movie I know you already know this its the end in some sense and the begining of thier lives together! Its important We are in love with it I know I speak for more than myself when I say the small minor details of this book are very important, they make this book, the entire saga is amazing but this is the amazing ending to the New Journey! Otherwise loved your past movies and I think your a great pick cant wait!!! Good luck and hope you enjoy it and love it like we do!!!

My first question relates to Edward and Bella's honeymoon… I understand that a huge portion of Twilight's fanbase and audience are young and so obviously you need to acknowledge and be mindful of that when filming certain scenes, however, on the otherhand there is also the other portion of fans to are older and whilst I'm not expecting anything 'smutty', Edward and Bella's struggle to be close and intimate carries on througout the series and to finally get to that point and not explore it or show it in a repsectable but still intimate way…well it's gonna suck! So, basically after all that, is it going to be possible to meet both needs of the fans?

Secondly, I know there is not really a lot of 'father-daughter' moments between Edward and Renesmee in the book but I, and many other fans, feel that there should be something included in the film that highlights this. Having a child was something Edward knew he could not give Bella, but wanted to. Hopefully this is something you can take into consideration.
Oh, and due to the size of the book, lets just hope Summit realises it warrants two films.

It was great to hear that you were on board, I've loved each of your films. I cannot wait to see what becomes of Breaking Dawn….it's a fantasic end to a brilliant story… GOOD LUCK!

It was weak end to a mediocre story. Everything falls into place so conveniently. Perfect set of powers for Bella, perfect baby situation, perfect (and ridiculous) resolution with Jake, and an epic battle lazily dodged. It was pathetic.

Iron Man 2 was almost as good of a sequel as Twilight: New Moon but the conetst is so close. They were both such amazing and exciting and so smart movies http://goo.gl/fb/i8Vxl

First of all, welcome to the Twilight World. I'm sure I am not alone when I think that you will do an amazing job and I wish you the very best.

I just have a few tiny little questions. If I live in the UK and I am under 18 (and over 12), do you think I would get the chance of playing any part in the film? And I'm not picky, trust me. Anything would do for me; I would be the happiest person in the world to just be an extra in the back. I just re-read Breaking Dawn yesterday and I noticed (again) there are loads of new vampires coming in the picture. If you are lacking one actress, you know where to find one (but if you don't, i'd like to fill the space).

Also, do you think you could keep the film appropriate for younger audiences (eg. a 12A rating), but please the older ones (two words: Isle Esme)?

Anyway, can't wait to hear back from you, and also can't wait for the movies. Good luck!

What do you get when you combine a hunky vampire with a hunky werewolf? A super-fantastic-ultra-handsome saliva-inducing mega hunk like the one depicted here:

Wellcome in the world of Twilight!
First I have some “technical” question about Breaking Dawn:
What are the different reasons before you can decide to make 1 or 2 movies?
For which reasons Twilightmovies haven't to be longer than 120 minutes?
What hangs on the decision to start turning Breaking Dawn?
    Are you also CGI specialized?
What I'm also waiting for (I do hope you apologize my poor english too):
    - I love the humor in Breaking Dawn like “the car before” and most of young twilight fans love Emmetts funny side…will you put some more humor in Breaking Dawn?
    - I love the relationship/interaktion between Edward & Alice – Edward & Jacob and Edward & Seth…is that important for you too?
    - Jacob and Renesmee hunting together…will we see that?
    - Please don't take a Bella vampire like in New Moon, it's really “kitschy”. I like imagine her more like in the outtakes of Vanity Fair nov.2008…and you, do you have already your Idea?
    - I love the Ending of Breaking Dawn, where Bella gives Edward the possibility to take a look at her thoughts…just seeing all the love story again.
    - I'am very curious or tight? to see how Robs acting will influence our view of the most beautiful and powerfull vampire Bella, because I think that Bella as Vampire is to see with Edward eyes without losing Bellas view…complicated?
Do you already have a vision?
I just trust you to bring Breaking Dawn alive. Catherine Hardwicke and Chris Weitz did a great job, they kept the Spirit of Twilight but also added something personal.
I wish you and all the Twilight crew a very very pleasant time!
