2014 emmy award winners breaking bad

The 2014 Emmy Award winners were announced tonight.  The ceremony was effectively dedicated to Breaking Bad, winning Best Drama for its final season.  It was widely presumed Matthew McConaughey would continue his awards run with an Emmy win for True Detective, but Bryan Cranston triumphed once again with his fourth Best Actor award.  Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul won for their supporting roles and Breaking Bad also took home Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

Modern Family won Best Comedy, joining Frasier as the only series to win the award five times.  Hit the jump for the full list of 2014 Emmy Award Winners.

Breaking Bad deserved every nomination and win tonight. Awesome to see the show and the whole cast and crew go out like true champions.

    • Leo Spaceman

Agreed, I was really worried that McCaugnhahay would win for True Detective and he did a phenominal job that truly deserved an award, but Cranston deserved the recognition for 5 incredible seasons.

      • Leo Spaceman

Although in hindsight a lot of credit should be given to McCaughnahay for not going for lead actor in a miniseries. By all means he could have won an easy emmy but he stood his ground and went for an award that was worth something. He and Cranston were both incredible but I wanted to see Cranston win because this was his last chance to win for what really was the performance of a lifetime.

I have to respectfully disagree… I’m a big fan of Cranston and Breaking Bad, but I can’t believe McConaughey didn’t win the Emmy this year. There won’t be another performance like that on TV in a long while, that was an A-list leading man at the very top of his game delivering some truly outstanding writing.

HBO got cocky when they put True Detective up for Best Drama instead of Best Miniseries. It was a fantastic show right out the gate, but Breaking Bad was in top form in its final year.

  • World’s Finest Comments

Reruns of Seinfeld deserved the Emmy more than Modern Family this year.

    • Drake

Veep should have definitely won over Modern Family.

      • stephens

Or Silicon Valley, or Louis CK, or OITNB…..really anything except the Big Bang Theory should have won over MF

  • mattinacan

    hilarious make out session

  • One

Was very disappointed when Modern Family won in its respective category. How Louie didn’t beat it is beyond me, aside from it being the “safe” choice.

  • junierizzle

Looks like True Detective got too cocky. They should have submitted in the mini-series category.

  • TotesMcGotes

I’m happy that Cranston won, McCounaghey was incredible, but to me, just that phone call near the end of Ozymandias was enough for Cranston to take it. That is some of the best acting I ever seen.

I’m not sure if I agree with Aaron Paul winning over Dinklage, though. He was still great, though.

  • randommale7

Wow, one of the most generic Emmys, especially in the comedy section. Just saying that Modern Family ain’t that great…

    • Mr. Orange

I agree. Modern Family isn’t a terrible show, but it certainly isn’t the best comedy. It’s annoying how it keeps winning when FAR superior shows keep losing. Plus I only watched this year to see who would come out on top, Breaking Bad or True Detective.

    • Vulcan

I thought Orange is the New Black was going to sweep the comedy awards, but it only won best Guest Actress for Crazy Eyes. Although the show is just as much a drama as it is a comedy, which might of turned off some voters who were looking for more traditional comedy. Perhaps the Emmys should go with the Dramady categories in the future.

  • Person

Love True Detective and of course somewhat disappointed about it not winning more awards, but Breaking Bad really did deserve the wins. At least TD got Director, which Fukunaga DEFINITELY deserved for shouldering the whole season on his own. Wish Dinklage would’ve won, though.

  • Redemption

It seems I’m the only one who thought the final season of Breaking Bad was disappointing. In my opinion, Season 3 and (especially) Season 4 were much better. I was never a big fan of Anna Gunns performance or character. And while he gave amazing performances through the entire show, Aaron Paul wasn’t given much to do in the final season, mostly just moping around and crying. On the other hand, I thought the first season of True Detective was an amazing show that will be influential in the future of TV. A-list actors, one writer, and one director making an 8 hour film. With that said, I would have given True Detective, McConaughey, and Dinklage wins.

It’s hard to care too much about who wins when the Academy thinks Downton Abbey and House of Cards are better shows than The Americans, Justified, and Hannibal, among others.

i’m really happy with all the prizes that breaking bad’s cast, writers and directors has gotten; it was an incredibly awesome series and i’s just amazing how every person involved in that show gave their absolute best, even the actors playing the smaller roles were great at creating the series best moments: huell, cuby, the old guy from the junkyard, skinny pete and badger, jesse’s prostitute lady friend, etc. etc. it’s going to be hard for me to love another tv show as much as i loved breaking bad…

The ceremony sucked! The best moments for me were when Julia Lewis-Dreyfus won Best Actress and The Normal Heart for Best TV Movie, although I’m a little sad that Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer didn’t win, but I haven’t seen Sherlock so I can’t give an opinion and compare the performances.
Oh and Veep got robbed for Best Comedy! Modern Family is so overrated. Veep gets better and better each season.
And yay for The Colbert Report!
