The 2014 Razzie nominations list has been announced and it features all the usual suspects.  The Adam Sandler and Co. sequel, Grown Ups 2, leads the list with eight nominations, making every category except the one for Worst Actress.  That particular category features the list’s only (relative) surprises with nominations for both Naomi Watts (Diana and Movie 43, and Halle Berry for The Call and Movie 43.  Big-budget disappointments The Lone Ranger and After Earth each have multiple nominations, along with the expected fare of Tyler Perry movies and spoof comedies.  Hit the jump to view the full list and find out who takes home the awards on Saturday, March 1st.

Here’s the list of the 2014 Razzie Awards nominations:

    RIPD got snubbed!

  • 80sRobot

This is a great bad list, illustrating just what a good year 2013 was in bad movies. I predict Movie 43 will sweep.

  • Tom

I actually think Ashton Kutcher doesn’t deserve this award. Steve Jobs in his interpretation wasn’t bad. At least it’s not material for Razzie Nominations.

    • 80sRobot

Yeah this nomination seems more spiteful than fair — a personal attack against Kutcher, when other commenters have pointed out far worse performances last year.

I also think the Razzies should limit people being nominated for just one movie, not multiple movies. That too comes off as a spiteful joke.

As odd as this sounds, I think the Razzies in the future should take their nominations a little more seriously. Yes, the whole thing is a joke, but acknowledging the terrible movies and performances, and doing so seriously, can be a good way to keep Hollywood on notice and egos in check.

      • Jay

Ya well when The Lone Ranger and After Earth and Grown Ups 2 sucked that hard, what do you expect? Believe me respect goes out to Johnny Depp, Will Smith and Adam Sandler but those movies were shite!

Jobs was by all accounts a difficult guy
      extremely talented
but hard to get along with at times
      Kutcher captured that
      he deserved a GG nom

    • Jay

Ya I mean I thought Ashton did good for Steve Jobs. I think the movie wasn’t great but his portrayal seemed bang on.

Where the fuck is Bruce Willis for It’s a Good Day to Kill My Franchise?

    • Tom

No, the major question is – Why in the category “Worst Remake Rip-Off or Sequel” threre is no ‘Good Day to Die Hard”?

    • djrj

I saw it in theaters and my only regret was that I didn’t have alcohol because it was one of the most gleefully awful movies I have ever seen.

Ya you’re right, seemed like a 2013 Jean Claude Van Damme production, kind of how some of Stallone’s movies are feeling.

  • Norrtron

The Long Ranger is so much better then the hate it’s been getting since it’s release.

    • 80sRobot

I found myself enjoying LR, but I saw it for the first time at home. Yet I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much in the theater… I realize that may sound odd, but there are many, certain kinds of movies that have that affect on me. Better watched at home than in the theater.

I’m hoping Movie 43 sweeps. Lone Ranger and After Earth were bad, but not Movie 43 territory. I can’t believe I’m saying this with Grown Ups 2 in the race, but ugh it was that awful.
Also nice to see Hangover Part III on there. That was pathetic.
Where’s Paranoia though? I guess the box office results were bad enough punishment.

    • 80sRobot

43 should sweep, simply for the sheer number of famous actors in it. How did the producers manage to convince so many to take part in such painfully unfunny skits? My theory that I have not bothered to look up is that they were all repped by the same agency who coerced them into appearing.

I see Ryan Reynolds has escaped their wraith…again! I’m sure he’s a member of the ‘academy’

Is this ‘ceremony’ even worth all the cynicism anymore? Really…

It’s not worth the attention of anyone. It’s not funny, cutting edge or remotely interesting.

  • BADBOYBROM

Sorry but this award ceremony is a joke, less funny than the films it attempts to mock. Lone Ranger was great. Really enjoyed it as did pretty much everybody else I know who gave it a go. The action at the end on the trains to the william tell overture was an editing and directing masterclass. Sod the Razzies

The Lone Ranger is getting a lot of hate. Which is rather unfair.
With its great cinematography, score and amazing set pieces and action sequences how can you seriously put it on the same level as Grown Ups 2, Movie 43 and Paranoia. Those movies are simply bad. There is absolutely nothing good about them and they are probably, if not the worst movies ever made.
And Johnny Depp was great in The Lone Ranger. It was the film itself which was a failure.

The Lone Ranger doesn’t belong here, the rest do. Movie 43 felt like it was written by a group of sniggering 12 year-olds.

No TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D? At all? Color me mystified.

  • Tom

It’s some kind of curse. “The Legend of the Lone Ranger” from 1981 was nominated to five Razzie awards (won 3 of them).

The Lone Ranger and Stallone shouldn’t be there. After Earth is getting slammed because people love hating on M Night, After Earth wasn’t his worse.

Crap like Iron Man 3 and Jack the Giant Slayer should be on it.

EMPIRE magazine said the other world effects in AFTER EARTH
were as good as maybe better than AVATAR
      and i agree

Lone Ranger added nothing of significance to the cinema, let alone human culture. Lone Ranger represents everything that is deplorable in modern film making – the desire to make money by showing dumb people explosions and Johnny Depp. There is no reason to make Lone Ranger. Not a reason at all. Saying that “pretty much everyone liked it” is about as believable as saying “pretty much nobody like the Dark Knight.”

Normally, we can judge movies based on their success on the market. Some movies that are truly horrible (Transformers 2, 3, and whatever comes next, Grownups 2, etc) actually make money at the box office. This is the only reason they ever get a sequel. Other movies, like Lone Ranger, are not only awful, but bomb at the box office as well. When you can score the double whammy, it is time to stop defending this flick. I say Lone Ranger sweeps the Razzies.

Lone Ranger is just nowhere near as bad as you are suggesting.

Everything should go to Movie 43, even if they weren’t nominated for the category

  • Gerard Kennelly

Johnny Depp (The Lone Ranger) was a very good performance imo

  • Jumbled Mess of Images

Paul Greengrass definitely deserves to win the Razzie for worst director.

  • Cog

    Sandler makes me laugh.

it’s not funny if the same 5 or 6 movies get repeated in all the categories … Also , Hangover III was quite a good comedy.
