A red band trailer for 21 Jump Street has been released. A remake of the 1980s television series of the same name, the film stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as young cops who go undercover at a high school. The trailer is actually hilariously fantastic. The high school flashbacks of Hill and Tatum’s characters are perfect, and there’s a much-welcomed appearance in the trailer by Parks and Recreation‘s Nick Offerman. Hill and Tatum look to have some great chemistry, and in some ways the film actually feels like a spiritual sequel to Superbad.  I’m definitely excited to see more. Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs), the film also stars Ice Cube, Dave Franco, Brie Larsen, and Rob Riggle.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. And if you missed it, be sure to check out Brendan’s set visit preview for the film. 21 Jump Street opens March 16th, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.

  1. That looks awful. Having seen all the 21 Jump Street, I never would have guessed that a 21 Jump Street would be some lame, buddy-buddy comedy movie with a bunch of lame, unfunny jokes.

    • Damn, that should have read: That looks awful. Having seen all the 21 Jump Street EPISODES, I never would have guessed that a 21 Jump Street MOVIE would be some lame, buddy-buddy comedy movie with a bunch of lame, unfunny jokes.

  2. i dont know wat you^^ are on about but that was hilarious and i have to say jonah hill is still hilarious even though he lost a bit of weight. I understand where you are coming from but for people like me unaware of the previous series i have say this looks like an entertaining watch.

    • Well, if you understand where I’m coming from, then you’ll know I’m not “on” anything. ;)

The problem is, this is just 21 Jump Street in title alone. Like most products these days, they’re just using a known brand name to sell the movie, which is nothing like what it’s named after.

What’s the point of calling it 21 Jump Street? (Besides the aforementioned, lazy marketing purposes?) It’s a bait-and-switch.

  3. They are doing to 21 jump street exactly what they did to Starsky and Hutch. F***** it up. What a waste. Then again, Hollywood has like a 90% failure rate.

  4. I’m not sure what trailer Adam watched, but this looks awful. I watched it with a handful of people, and no one laughed. Not even once. It looks painfully bad.

  5. So they pretty much ripped off the basic plot and title of the show, then dumbed it down for the type of audience that thinks Jersey Shore is important.

    Pass. I’m good.

  6. So basically if this movie is under 3 hours then it’s not worth seeing… because they just did awhole lot of material for one little investigation, and it seems to me that it’ll suck and be an hour and 45. am i right?

  7. pft, i don’t know why so many ppl hate jonah hill. he’s hillarious both on and off screen. love him in interviews.

and i’m surprised channing tatum wasn’t annoying in this. i enjoy the part when they celebrated in the park.

i’ll wait to see what the reviews are like, but for now–fUNny.

  8. #1: Kevin James looks YEARS younger since he lost the weight. I don’t like him still in the loser fat guy roles, though.
#2: Even though this movie looks funny, I have to wonder if the writers even SAW the original show (which I didn’t, but my sister did)
#3 When will studios learn that doing spoof comedies of old TV shows is a sure fire way to KILL the franchise (read: Dukes of Hazzard, Charlie’s Angels, Starsky&Hutch, Dragnet, Threes Company, Smurds, Little Red Riding Hood, The Charmings, The Muppet Show, Monkey See, Monkey Do, Eat Me, Mr. Rogers, etc…) ?

  9. That is an amazingly large piece of crap!

Anyone remember when Ice Cube had some credibility?

If you go to see movies like this, you are the problem people!

  10. well how about that Channing Tatum acatually makes a good combo with Jonah Hill. plus this looks like a winner. i have good vibes for this unlike Pineapple Express.

the comedy here seems to be in my taste, but i’m worried they showed all the best jokes with a 3mins trailer.
