The official Facebook page of the comic book sequel 300: Rise of an Empire was updated with a new image showcasing the film’s title in typical Spartan fashion. The title image shares many similarities with its predecessor, the Gerald Butler blockbuster 300, but fails to offer any new information aside from indicating that they intend to stick to this title (the follow-up was previously called 300: Battle of Artemisia). 300: Rise of an Empire is set to hit theaters August 2nd 2013 and stars Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green and Sullivan Stapleton, and is loosely based on the comic ”Xeres” by Frank Miller. The Noam Murro (Smart People) directed film is set to focus on Rodrigo Santoro’s character Xeres as he takes on and battles the Persian King. Rodrigo has stated that the movie “takes place in the same time, you start a little earlier but then you see that it’s like a different point of view,” and will include a battle similar to the one in 300 but seen from a different perspective. The actor has addressed the project in many interviews and reports that the studio’s reaction to the film was very positive and that he is excited to reprise his role and delve into the character’s back story a little more. Not much more has been seen or revealed regarding the 300 follow up but with the summer movie season fast approaching, and with an early August release date, be prepared for Warner Bros. to start marketing the film and releasing more information as we get closer.
