CinemaCon gets underway this Monday, but Steve is already in Las Vegas snapping pictures of all the cool promo posters, banners, and standees he can find. For those unaware, CinemaCon is a convention put on for all the major theater owners in order to get a look at what the studios have to offer for the rest of the year; it’s basically Comic-Con for theater owners. While walking the floor, Steve found a new promo poster for director Carl Rinsch‘s 47 Ronin. The pic stars Keanu Reeves and it’s about a troupe of banished samurai long to restore their honor and find vengeance against the treacherous Lord Kira (played by Tadanobu Asano) who was responsible for the death of their master. We got a look at a different promo poster at the 2011 Licensing International Expo, but this one has 100% more fire and plays up the 3D aspect of the action film.

Here’s the synopsis for 47 Ronin:

The troupe of banished samurai long to restore their honor and find vengeance against the treacherous Lord Kira (played by Asano, who is in theaters now as Hogun in Thor) who was responsible for the death of their master. Kai is the uneasy compatriot in their company and his standing will be questioned even more as he falls in love with Mika (Shibasaki), daughter of the fallen master. The film presents a quest where the ronin (the term for samurai with no master) face trials that test their mettle and their loyalty to one another.

Id like to see the trailer, but from what I am reading this will be nothing like 47 Ronin Parts 1&2. They are Japanese Classics as they were made without Eastern influence (Hollywood). And if I rember they were made before we (US) dropped the bombs on the Japanese.

  Why do Western idiots always assume there has only been one 47 Ronin adaptation, when there have been a billion, including many as fantasy? White ignorance on display at its finest. Liking the few Japanese stuff that makes it to your shore doesn’t MAKE you Japanese, or aware of real Japanese culture. Real Japanese culture which INCLUDES fantasy adaptations of 47 Ronin.     Aww nish, I struck a cord, was because of last night, Im sorry I should have called, in other news. Yes I am aware that that story in Japan film history is as used as Sherlock Holmes, 3 Muskerteers, or Robin Hood out here. But this will be the first major American adaptation, and it stars the worst actor we have, Keanu and is a fantasy story, when they could have a fantastic dark story, that has a similar tone to 13 assasins. Thats why it iritates me, because I already have a feeling that it could be so much more. Dont call people foolish for having their own opinion.
