50 Cent is getting in on the superhero business. Already the star and executive producer of Power for Starz, the rapper is developing a new show for the premium cable channel called Tomorrow, Today, which is described as a superhero vigilante series.

While we’ve already seen The CW and Netflix’s versions of superhero vigilantes with Arrow and Daredevil, Tomorrow, Today will follow a war veteran from the south side of Chicago who is falsely imprisoned, according to a press release. He then becomes the experiment of a prison doctor hellbent on creating the perfect man and an unstoppable killing machine. The vet, who goes on the run, decides to use his abilities for good in a world that has turned against him.

This new project is part of 50 Cent’s overall deal with the network that was extended, thereby keeping him developing shows with the premium cable channel until September of 2018. The rapper made a statement on the new series in which he said in part, “This project is very personal to me…creating it, writing it, finding the best team for it and I will continue to be involved every step of the way.” Anthony Cipriano (Bates Motel) and Dan Kay (I.T.) are set to executive produce.

Last year, a wrongful termination lawsuit was filed against Starz by the network’s former CEO Keno Thomas, who, among other grievances, claimed that Starz had a major diversity problem and urged marketing to refrain from using 50 Cent to promote Power in light of his domestic violence allegations. In response, Starz they had a "strong commitment to such programming with shows like Power…”

I bring this up because it could mean more diverse content coming from Starz in the future, and the fact that 50 Cent calls Tomorrow, Today a “personal” story him makes it seem likely. Perhaps we’ll get another black superhero on the small screen, although Marvel and Netflix are beating them to the punch with Luke Cage, a series that’s already politically charged for featuring a black man immune to bullets.
