I still don’t know what to make of this movie. On the one hand, the latest trailer made me feel pretty good about the film but then this news about Wes Anderson directing the film by e-mail for no particular reason put me right back into hesitancy. Watching these new clips, I don’t fully understand why the stop-motion is vital to the tone beyond letting us know this is “A Wes Anderson Film”. As you watch these six clips after the jump, try to visualize the scene as a 3D animated film and see if it changes your feeling about the movie.
“Fantastic Mr. Fox” hits theaters on November 25th.
For those just tuning in, here’s a brief synopsis:
Mr. and Mrs. Fox (Clooney and Streep) live an idyllic home life with their son Ash (Schwartzman) and visiting young nephew Kristofferson (Eric Anderson). But after twelve years of quiet domesticity, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr. Fox’s wild animal instincts. Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief and in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community. Trapped underground without enough food to go around, the animals band together to fight against the evil Farmers – Boggis, Bunce and Bean – who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr. Fox at any cost. In the end, he uses his natural instincts to save his family and friends.

And one last thing, we’ve started posting film clips in a new way. Since the site runs pre-roll (it pays for all the bandwidth), we’ve started posting all the clips in one video. What that means is, once you push play, you’ll probably have to sit through one commercial and then all the clips will play in order.

That looks very funny! But I agree the visuals are kinda lame. I would SO prefer if they had done it as a #d animated film. Why didn’t they???
