The first trailer for the apocalyptic dramedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World has landed. The film stars Steve Carell as a man who sets out with a woman (Keira Knightley) to search for his high-school sweetheart during Earth’s final days. It’s a premise you’d expect from a big budget sci-fi pic or a zany road trip comedy, but the tone on display in this trailer is nothing short of fantastic. Director Lorene Scafaria has populated the flick with a brilliant ensemble, as we see Patton Oswalt, Rob Heubel, Connie Britton, Gillian Jacobs, Rob Corddry, and more pop up in this short trailer alone. There are genuinely funny moments, but an underlying sadness permeates throughout that hints at some strong character work as well. I love the way the apocalypse is tackled here and can’t wait to see more.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Adam Brody, Derek Luke, Melanie Lynskey, T.J. Miller, and Melinda Dillon. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World opens June 22nd.

Here's the official synopsis for Seeking a Friend for the End of the World:
Set in a too-near future, a man searches for a meaningful connection as humanity's last days are at hand. Can he find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge and Penny converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks - if not ...

Iron Sky has one of those nutty premises I absolutely love. The story is that Nazis landed on the moon 70 years ago and have been biding their time to launch an invasion. They decide they've been waiting long enough, take to their fleet of flying saucers, and begin a full scale attack of Earth. Not wacky enough? There's also a Sarah Palin parody as the U.S. President, and the film takes place six years from now. Also, the movie co-stars Udo Kier. But in the end: moon Nazis.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with a press release about the film's upcoming premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. Iron Sky is set to hit theaters on April 4th.

Hat tip to Brad for giving me a heads-up on this movie before the official trailer was released.

Here's the press release:

Iron Sky Trailer Released, Berlinale Instantly Sold Out
The Finnish Scifi Spectacle Gears Up for World Domination by Releasing the Official Theatrical Trailer
The Fenno-Austro-German Iron Sky, a dark scifi comedy about the invasion of Nazis from the Dark Side of the Moon, celebrates its upcoming premiere at Berlin International Film Festival by releasing the very official theatrical trailer, showcasing what the dark horse of the Berlinale has to offer.

The trailer establishes that the Nazis in exile have been watching Earth for 70 years, constructing a huge fleet of flying saucers. When the Nazis decide that they have bided their time long enough and launch a full scale assault against the Earth, ...

The first trailer and poster for The Bourne Legacy have gone online. The central message of the trailer is this: Jeremy Renner can kick the shit out of people just as well as Matt Damon. It's clearly the same Bourne flavor, and audiences will be happy to get another great actor beating up bad guys. The editing moves so fast that it's tough to tell how much writer-director Tony Gilroy's style will differ from Paul Greengrass' (who directed Supremacy and Ultimatum), but I'm eager to see what Gilroy has in store.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. The film also stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, and Scott Glenn. The Bourne Legacy opens August 3rd.

Click over to Apple to see the trailer in HD.

Official synopsis:
The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David ...

A French trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been released. It plays like a mash-up of the first domestic trailer for the film and the recent Super Bowl spot, with some new footage mixed in. I continue to be impressed by what we’re seeing from Retaliation; it just looks like a really, really fun movie. The pic seems to be more of a franchise reboot than a direct sequel to the first G.I. Joe, and the lack of Channing Tatum suggests we’re getting an almost entirely new cast headed up by Dwayne Johnson. The new trailer retains the “Seven Nation Army” remix, and a few bits of humor are sprinkled throughout for good measure.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis. G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29th.

In case you missed the sneak-preview of footage from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, you’re in luck! We’ve recapped it for you here along with images from the film thus far. But what you really came here for is the new trailer, which is much better than the previous one, which started by highlighting a young Peter Parker and finished with a "Mirror's Edge" style parkour run over the rooftops from Spidey's perspective. We get a nice look at the budding relationship of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy as well as the friction building between Parker/Spider-Man and George Stacy. You've got web-slinging, a nod to Parker's genius through his high-tech gadgets and chalkboard equations and glimpses of Ifans as The Lizard! Much more encouraging.
The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans and opens in theaters July 3rd. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

A new trailer has gone online for The Hunger Games and it's my favorite one yet. It's short, sweet, hits the emotional beats, has a little action, and gives us a good look at Stanley Tucci's wacky hairdo. The trailer also features the Mockingjay pin, which is the big icon of the series.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, and click here to find out how you can win tickets from us to go the film's premiere on March 12th in Los Angeles. The Hunger Games opens in wide release and IMAX on March 23rd.

Here's the official synopsis for The Hunger Games:
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life ...

The advertising for the ads during the Super Bowl are almost getting more marketing than the actual game itself. We’ve already seen previews from a bevy of the commercials set to debut during the big game, and today you can add The Dictator to that pile. The Super Bowl spot for the film doesn’t contain any new footage besides the intro (with a nice nod to NBC), but this will most likely be the first time many people hear about the new pic from Sacha Baron Cohen. Cohen reunites with Borat director Larry Charles for The Dictator, and the film looks to be sufficiently ridiculous. He’s assembled an impressive cast here and I’m excited to see what else Cohen has in store besides gun-infused track races and sex with Megan Fox.

Hit the jump to check out the Super Bowl spot. The film also stars Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly, and Anna Faris . The Dictator opens May 11th.

An English-Language trailer for Rodrigo Cortes' Red Lights has gone online. For those unfamiliar with the flick, it stars Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver as two physicists who debunk claims of paranormal activity, but they run up against a man (Robert De Niro) who may actually have special powers. I dug almost all of the film when I saw it at Sundance, but the ending needs to be reworked since the execution undermines the power of what came before. The new trailer sells the movie as a straight-up supernatural thriller, and while that's technically true, the trailer also makes the film look generic and forgettable. There's more personality and fun in Red Lights than what's on display here.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Millennium picked up Red Lights for U.S. distribution, but no release date has been announced.

Via Dutch FilmWorks.

Here's the official synopsis for Red Lights:
A psychological thriller which explores the human brain’s perception mechanisms and the diffuse frontiers between belief and science, RED LIGHTS starts out from the experiences of two rationalist scientists who dissect phenomena from the metapsychic world, and the clash of forces with a world famous psychic they bring about. The past and the present of each the protagonists contain still unrevealed shadows, setting in train a dark story of growing tension, full of unexpected twists and turns.

The first full trailer for HBO’s Game Change has gone online. Directed by Jay Roach (Recount), the film follows the behind-the-scenes turmoil of the 2008 John McCain Presidential campaign. While we’ve previously seen tiny bits of Julianne Moore’s performance as Sarah Palin, this full trailer puts her front and center with stunning results. Moore has gone above and beyond here to embody the former Vice Presidential candidate, and nails all the nuances of Palin’s character. Roach and screenwriter Danny Strong previously teamed up for the stellar Recount, and it looks as though they've expertly executed yet another real-life political drama. While some of Palin’s behavior in the trailer might come across as staged, the film is based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s book of the same name which was the culmination of their unrivaled access to both Presidential campaigns.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Ed Harris, Woody Harrelson, Ron Livingston, Sarah Paulson, Peter MacNicol, Justin Gaston, Larry Sullivan, Jamey Sheridan, and Melissa Farman. Game Change premieres on HBO March 10th.

A big chunk of the future of home entertainment seems to involve video-on-demand. More and more releases are branching out to the VOD market, offering new movies in the comfort of one's own home months ahead of their theatrical release. It's not a terrible model, and given the text-heavy state of theatrical moviegoing across the country, it's hard to blame people for wanting to watch a film in peace and quiet. Mel Gibson’s Icon Productions is making a ballsy move with the actor’s next feature, Get the Gringo (previously titled How I Spent My Summer Vacation), as the film is set to be released directly to the VOD format. The actioner is skipping the theatrical release altogether, and a Blu-ray/DVD release will follow the VOD window. Hit the jump for more details. [Update: We've updated the article with the first trailer for the film]
Gibson co-wrote the script for Get the Gringo with director Adrian Grunberg. The film tells the story of a career criminal who gets caught by Mexican authorities and is sent to a drug- and crime-filled prison, where he learns how to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy. Deadline reports that, in Icon’s deal with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Get the Gringo will have an exclusive preview window on DirecTV starting May 1st. Each viewing will cost $10.99, and a wider release on Blu-ray, VOD, and digital download will follow later in the year. Once DirecTV loses the exclusive preview, the film will be available ...

Air travel is already annoying enough without supernatural terror going down. There's not enough leg room, they now charge you for every little thing (in our lifetime, major airlines will charge you to use the bathroom), and it does everything in its power to diminish the magic of air travel. I suppose we'll have to settle for dark magic or whatever freaky thing is attacking the passengers of 7500, the new film from Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge). I really hope that it's attacking because some guy didn't turn off his electronic device during take-off. Please let that be the reason.

A trailer is now available for High Road, the fully-improvised comedy by director Matt Walsh (The Hangover). Cast with a ridiculous number of improv comedians at all different levels of fame, High Road stars relative unknowns in the principal roles. James F. Pumphrey (Players) is Fitz, a well-meaning drug-dealer who hits the road to escape his problems and encounters some strange characters along the way. The strong supporting cast features Ed Helms, Rob Riggle, Horatio Sans, Kyle Gass, Abby Elliott, Lizzy Caplan and Zach Woods. While it plays like a mash-up of Harold and Kumar and Pineapple Express, I can’t quite figure out if it’s destined to be a cult classic or a simple misfire. Hit the jump to check out the trailer for High Road.

The first trailer for the action-thriller Cold Light of Day has gone online. The film centers on a man (Henry Cavill) whose family is abducted while vacationing in Spain. As he puts the pieces of their disappearance together, the man uncovers family secrets and a government conspiracy that are responsible for the crime. It looks like a neat little espionage actioner, but I’m not really seeing anything new or interesting being brought to the genre. That said, Cavill sure seems like he can handle himself. Bruce Willis stars as Cavill’s father in another one of his “seasoned law enforcement veteran” roles, while Sigourney Weaver is a nice addition as someone connected to Cavill’s family’s disappearance. Many will be interested in checking the film out if only to see our next Superman (Cavill dons the tights for Man of Steel) take his shot at a leading American role.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Cold Light of Day opens April 6th.

Here’s a synopsis for Cold Light of Day:
Will Shaw (Henry Cavill) goes to Spain for a weeklong sailing vacation with his family but his whole world turns upside down when the family is kidnapped by intelligence agents hell-bent on recovering a mysterious briefcase and Will suddenly finds himself on the run.

It may not be a genre you enjoy, but there's no bad-mouthing the Step Up series for what it's trying to do. The stories may be painfully stupid, but the dancing is amazing and that's what people come to see. The trailer for Step Up 4 has gone online and it has the great line "I want to break the rules." Usually, dancing is legal. But you can break the rules by holding up traffic or disrupting the museum-going experience. There's no point in rebelling if it's not expertly choreographed.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Step Up 4 opens July 27th.

Here's the info on Step Up 4:
Directed by SCOTT SPEER

Based on Characters Created by DUANE ADLER

The second season of Game of Thrones is a little over two months away, and a new trailer has gone online. If you thought the wait for season two was painful already, you're going to be in agony after you see this trailer. It's all new footage, it sets up some key relationships, hints where the plot is going (for people who haven't read the novels), and when Arya says "Anyone can be killed," it's basically the ethos for the entire series. It's also not a bad marketing strategy to make Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) the focus of the trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the new trailer. The new season of Game of Thrones premieres April 1st on HBO.

Twisted young talent Bobcat Goldthwait was one of the premier stand-ups of the 1980s. Sadly, when it came time to do movies, his awkward, is-someone-murdering-a-cat delivery didn’t translate too far outside the Police Academy series. But a few years ago, something unexpected happened: the loud, spastic comedian morphed into a quietly acclaimed writer and director of pitch black comedies like the sublime World’s Greatest Dad.

God Bless America may be his blackest yet, as evidenced by a very red-band trailer that’s surfaced online. It’s the tale of Frank (Mad Men’s Joel Murray), a middle-aged man who spends his days toiling in exhausted apathy amidst the cultural decay and all-around douchiness of the world; he’s disenfranchised to the point of near-suicide, but instead decides to take his 9mm on a killing spree to eradicate as many vacuous, double-parking assholes as he can before a brain tumour takes him out. Joining him is a like-minded 16 year-old girl. Fair warning: clips like this are pretty much the reason the red-band was invented…well, that and dick jokes. Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Also be sure to check out our two reviews on the film, by Matt Goldberg and Phil Brown.

Magnolia’s God Bless America will be released on VOD on April 6 before a limited theatrical run beginning on May 11.

Here’s the synopsis for God Bless America:
Loveless, jobless and possibly terminally ill, Frank has had enough of the downward spiral of America. With nothing left to lose, Frank takes his gun and ...

The new trailer and poster for The Hunter have been released. The film stars Willem Dafoe as a mysterious man who has been hired to track and hunt the last remaining Tasmanian Tiger. While on the hunting mission, Dafoe must keep his employer and true intent a secret from the suspicious townspeople. While the logline may seem a bit generic (and familiar, given the upcoming release of the survival pic The Grey), the trailer is actually pretty damn enthralling. Dafoe is great as always, and a tremendous air of suspense envelops every scene. The pic premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, where Matt wasn’t all too taken by it (read his review here). I’m really hoping the film delivers, as I’m quite intrigued by this trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. Directed by Daniel Nettheim, the film also stars Frances O'Connor and Sam Neill. The Hunter will be available VOD on March 2nd, and hits theaters April 6th.

Here’s a synopsis for The Hunter:
THE HUNTER is the story of Martin, a skilled and ruthless mercenary sent into the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for a tiger believed to be extinct. He proceeds to set up base camp at a broken-down farmhouse, where he stays with a family whose father has gone missing. Usually a loner, Martin becomes increasingly close to the ...

After we reported that Relativity Media was pushing its Snow White project Mirror Mirror back until March 30th, the studio decided to release a new international trailer. While it's still nowhere near as mature or action-filled as the Universal counterpart Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, it's heads above the horrendous first trailer. This is more along the lines of what I was expecting from director Tarsem Singh as I can at least pick up on his presence here.

Mirror Mirror stars Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

Click here to get caught up on all of our previous Mirror Mirror coverage. Remember, regardless of the outdated poster below, Mirror Mirror is now scheduled to open March 30th. Check out the new trailer below.

Here’s the official synopsis for Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror:
In Relativity’s Mirror Mirror starring Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts and breakout star Lily Collins (The Blind Side), an evil Queen (Roberts) steals control of a kingdom, and an exiled princess (Collins) enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over. The film also stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the object of their affection, Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen.

The final six episodes of the second season of The Walking Dead are set to kick off starting February 12th, and AMC has released a midseason teaser trailer for the upcoming installments. I found the first few episodes of this season to be incredibly frustrating, but the mindblowing final five minutes of episode seven were almost enough to make up for it. There’s a difference between character development and meandering. The teaser trailer is fairly short, but it looks like our group of zombie survivors finally leaves that damn farm.

Hit the jump to check out the teaser. If you missed our recent interview with creator Robert Kirkman and showrunner Glen Mazzara regarding what’s to come in the final six episodes of season two, click here to check it out. The show has already been picked up for a third season, which was recently extended to 16 episodes. The Walking Dead returns on AMC Sunday, February 12th at 9/8c.
