The first official poster has been released for Aaron Sorkin's new HBO drama, The Newsroom. The series stars Jeff Daniels as the primary anchor of a failing 24-hour news network who is ready to break the monotony of cable news and go back to the roots of informing his audience. We already saw his character have a fantastic (and much publicized) outburst in the first trailer. Then, The Newsroom followed up with a series of additional trailers that developed a bit more of the storyline and also introduced us to the rest of the cast: such as Daniels' character's new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Now, we have the first look at the official poster (in addition to some shorter trailers, in case you've missed the previous ones). Hit the jump to check out the slick official poster for HBO's The Newsroom, which debuts Sunday, June 24th at 10PM.

Here are the new trailers for The Newsroom, followed by the official synopsis and the new official poster below:

This new series centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles ...

3D has become almost a dirty word in the current moviegoing environment, but it’s a useful tool when done with purpose and precision (see: Hugo). One of the genres in which 3D really shines is animation, and with Disney’s announcement that they’ll be releasing a number of classics back into theaters we’ll get the chance to see some excellent 3D put to good use. First up on Disney-Pixar’s theatrical re-release slate is Finding Nemo, and a full trailer for the 3D release is now online. The trailer plays up the 3D aspect, and I’m assuming it’s more effective when seen in three dimensions. While 3D seems like a perfect fit for Pixar’s gorgeous ocean-set pic, I’m also just eager to see Andrew Stanton’s incredibly sweet, funny, and heartfelt film on the big screen once again.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer for Finding Nemo 3D, and brace for the 3D re-releases of Monster’s Inc. and The Little Mermaid which will follow. Finding Nemo returns to theaters on September 14th.

Here’s the first trailer for Finding Nemo for comparison’s sake, which is actually pretty similar:

The first teaser trailers for director Adam McKay's Anchorman 2 has gone online. While I love reporting on movie news, I can't help but be a little jealous of Anchorman fans who will walk into The Dictator, and had no idea that Anchorman 2 was on the way (I'm working off the assumption these fans also missed Ron Burgundy's announcement on Conan). We don't know what the plot of the sequel will be (it might involve the dawn of the 24-hour news cycle and diversity), but it will most likely contain more of the brilliant one-liners you heard in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and the ones you'll hear in this trailer. We've also included an exclusive teaser trailer from FunnyOrDie, which contains different dialogue.

Hit the jump to watch the trailers, and click here to check out the poster. The film stars Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner. Anchorman 2 (possibly titled Anchorman: The Legend Continues) opens in 2013.

Sony has released the first teaser trailer for director Sam Mendes' (American Beauty, Road to Perdition) Skyfall and it looks fantastic. Unlike some trailers that show you everything and leave nothing to the imagination, this teaser trailer is exactly that...a teaser. It's a perfect first look at Skyfall, and what I love is that we don't even get see the film’s baddie, Javier Bardem. If you're the type that likes to stay spoiler free, I promise you can watch it and you won't be mad that you did. Hit the jump to check it out.

Skyfall also stars Daniel Craig, Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes.

And if you missed any of my Skyfall set visit coverage, including a video blog recap and interviews with director Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, producer Barbara Broccoli, Berenice Marlohe, and Naomie Harris and Ola Rapace, be sure to check it out. Skyfall opens on November 9th.

Official synopsis:
Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time. In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

In a society where half of all marriages statistically end in divorce, it's the children of those failed unions that often get lost in the shuffle. The premise of co-directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel's film, What Maisie Knew deals with a young girl trapped in the wake of her parents' bitter divorce. While the film could easily become bleak and depressing, the trailer, at least, seems hopeful, buoyed by the effortless and carefree performance of Onata Aprile in the titular role. It helps that What Maisie Knew sports a supporting cast of Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgard, Steve Coogan and Joanna Vanderham, to name a few, but your hearts will be stolen by Aprile. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.
Read up on the synopsis for What Maisie Knew, adapted from the Henry James' novel:

Set mostly in England, the novel is related from the perspective of Maisie, a preadolescent whose parents were divorced when she was six years old and who spends six months of the year with each parent. The only emotional constant in Maisie’s life is Mrs. Wix, a motherly old governess. Maisie’s parents marry other partners, but neither marriage succeeds. Her new stepparents are attracted to each other, divorce Maisie’s parents, and marry. Maisie knows intuitively that she cannot depend on the adults in her life, and she chooses to live with Mrs. Wix, on whose unconditional love she can depend. [Amazon]

If you enjoyed the first clip from the CW's super-heroic series, Arrow, you're probably going to love the full trailer. While the clip featured star Stephen Amell putting all of us men-folk to shame with his uber-athletic portrayal of Oliver Queen, the trailer does a better job at setting up the origin of the titular character, Green Arrow. I was surprised and delighted when Paul Blackthorne (The Dresden Files) featured heavily in the trailer as a resident cop eager to hunt down the vigilante. I also thought, lest my eyes deceive me, that I caught a brief cameo from Smallville star, Kristin Kreuk, but perhaps viewers can confirm/correct me in the comment section. Hit the jump to check out the trailer [and sneak preview] for Arrow, coming to the small screen Wednesday evenings this fall on the CW.

The first trailer for the historical drama Hyde Park on the Hudson has gone online. The film stars Bill Murray as President Franklin D. Roosevelt and centers on a weekend in 1939 which marked the first ever visit to America by a British monarchy when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited FDR’s upstate New York cottage. Roosevelt also had an affair with his cousin, Daisy, during the same weekend. The trailer basically plays like a funnier version of Downton Abbey, with a great deal of heart thrown in towards the end. Lest you think this is another droll, period drama without a sense of humor, Murray is splendidly fun as Roosevelt.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill), the film also stars Laura Linney, Olivia Williams, Samuel West, Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Marvel, Elizabeth Wilson, and Eleanor Bron. Focus Features will release Hyde Park on the Hudson on December 7th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Hyde Park on the Hudson:
In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Academy Award nominee Bill Murray) and his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams) host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West and Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson, in upstate New York – the first-ever visit of a reigning English monarch to America. With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support. But international affairs must be juggled with ...

A new UK trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper movie Magic Mike has gone online. The film is loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s days as a stripper, and the actor plays a mentor to a young “exotic dancer” played by Alex Pettyfer. Most of the first trailer focused squarely on Tatum’s character and his furniture-making skills, but this trailer shows us a lot more of the mentor/mentee relationship. We also get some new looks at Matthew McConaughey, who is pitch-perfect as the nightclub’s ringleader. I’m always down for a new Soderbergh project, and I’m eager to find out what he saw in Tatum’s story that he thought would make a great movie.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Riley Keough, Olivia Munn, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Cody Horn, and Adam Rodriguez. Magic Mike opens on June 29th.

Here’s the synopsis for Magic Mike:
To a rebellious 19-year-old kid (Pettyfer) looking for independence from his family, Magic Mike (Tatum) seems like the perfect role model: he’s got a nice car, a nice apartment, and a seemingly endless supply of women. What’s his secret? He’s a male stripper, and when the kid dives headlong into Magic Mike’s world, his mad dancing skills and hunger for excitement make for an unforgettable summer.

Sexy, funny and shocking, this film is a hedonistic thrill ride with a powerful undertow. A razor sharp cast - led by top liner Channing Tatum in a career-defining turn as the titular Magic Mike devours the up-to-the ...

The first trailer for The Words has gone online. I really dug the film when I saw it at Sundance, but this trailer doesn't do a good job of getting to the drama of the central conflict, which is about a writer (Bradley Cooper) who becomes famous off a plagiarized manuscript, and then has to face his actions when he meets the original author (Jeremy Irons).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, and try not to be turned off from the use of the horrible song at the end (it isn't in the movie, in case you were wondering). The film also stars Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde, Zoe Saldana, and Ben Barnes (who should have gotten a credit in the trailer since he plays a major character). The Words opens September 21st.

Click over to Yahoo! Movies to see the trailer in HD.

Here's the official synopsis for The Words:
Rory Jansen, a struggling writer, aspires to be the next great literary voice. When he discovers a lost manuscript in a weathered attaché case, he realizes he possesses something extraordinary that he desperately wishes he had created. Rory decides to pass the work off as his own and finally receives the recognition he desperately craves. However, he soon learns that living with his choice will not be as easy as he thought as he faces a moral dilemma that will make him take a hard look at the man he has become.

In their directorial debut, Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal have crafted ...

As if these images from Elijah Wood's remake of the 1980 slasher flick, Maniac, weren't disturbing enough, here's a new trailer to haunt your dreams. This NSFW first look at the Franck Khalfoun-directed thriller features nudity, gruesome violence and the scalping of not just the dime-store mannequins, but real live women as well. The original, directed by William Lustig, starred Joe Spinell as Frank, a psychopath with a history of childhood abuse who takes women's scalps as trophies. Wood is doing his best to out-creep Spinell in this trailer and I dare say that he has succeeded. Maniac also stars America Olivo and Nora Arnezeder. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Ever since Wood distanced himself from his character, Frodo in The Lord of the Rings series by playing Kevin, the cannibalistic serial killer in Sin City, I've been looking forward to his return to the macabre. Maniac looks like it is going to satisfy that wish with guts and gusto. Wood can next be seen in both of The Hobbit films, as well as the indie thriller, Grand Piano and is currently filming Black Wings Has My Angel.

Here’s the synopsis for Maniac followed by the NSFW trailer courtesy of Cannes (via First Showing):
Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with ...

The first trailer for the horror film The Possession has gone online. Produced by Sam Raimi, the film centers on a young girl who acquires an antique box at a yard sale, but she's unaware that the box contains an evil spirit. First of all, if you haven't been creeped out by the poster yet, take a look here. As for the trailer, let me just say that the film earns positive marks for not following in the found footage genre's footsteps. The Possession trailer actually plays more like an homage to classic horror films like The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby and Poltergeist rather than any major horror film that's been produced within the past ten years. It's also refreshing to see an exploration of the darker side of Jewish folklore (the original film was titled The Dibbuk Box) rather than a rehashing of Catholic mythos. Director Ole Bornedal may well have found a combination of a respectable method of shooting and a capable cast that can restore some faith in the horror genre.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, and Natasha Calis. The Possession opens on August 31st.

Here’s the synopsis for The Possession:
A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl’s father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

The first trailer for the family drama Won’t Back Down (formerly Still I Rise) has gone online. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis star as two mothers from different backgrounds who join forces to take on the failing public school system. It’s a nice idea for a film (apparently based on true events), and the trailer has its moments, but I fear the full feature will be trite examination of a complex issue with a “nice” ending that wraps things up with a smile. The education system is in dire need of reform and taking a Blind Side approach to the issue is unworthy of the attention it deserves. That said, Gyllenhaal and Davis are fantastic actresses and Gyllenhaal has certainly been outspoken about social issues in the past, so hopefully Won’t Back Down tackles the issue with intellect and candidness and provides/stirs some thoughtful discussion on the topic.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Daniel Barnz (Beastly), the film also stars Holly Hunter and Oscar Isaac. Won’t Back Down opens on September 28th.

Here’s the synopsis for Won’t Back Down:
Two mothers from different backgrounds--a postal worker and a reporter--join forces to take on a failing public school system and institute a charter school for children in the neighborhood, including their own.

Red Flag has released the first trailer for The Do-Deca-Pentathlon, the latest from Jay and Mark Duplass (Jeff Who Lives at Home). Mark Kelly and Steve Zissis star as two grown brothers who secretly compete in a 25-part homemade Olympics during a family reunion: "When their fierce and disruptive competition is uncovered, the brothers must choose between their passion for beating the hell out of each other and the greater good of the family." The movie looks charming in that ultra low-key way that the Duplass brothers have mastered. As someone who grew up challenging three brothers to thousands of competitions across a few dozen sports, I am the target audience.

Jennifer Lafleur, Julie Vorus, and Reid Williams also star. The Do-Deca-Pentathlon is due in theaters on July 6. Watch the trailer after the jump.

The first trailer for the action romantic comedy Hit and Run has gone online. Dax Shepard stars as an ex-getaway driver who exits the Witness Protection program to drive his pretty girlfriend to Los Angeles so that she can land her dream job. The authorities and his former gang (led by Bradley Cooper) get wind of his reappearance and set out to chase him down. Shepard wrote and co-directed the film with David Palmer, and it actually looks like a pretty fun comedy. Cooper appears to be having a blast as a flashy gang member, and real-life couple Shepard and Bell have some excellent chemistry. Moreover, Tom Arnold is in fine form as a U.S. Marshal who’s trying to protect Shepard’s character.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Kristin Chenoweth, Beau Bridges, David Koechner, Joy Bryant (Parenthood), and Ryan Hansen (Party Down). Hit and Run hits theaters on August 24th.

Here’s the synopsis for Hit and Run:
Charlie Bronson, a former getaway driver busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip grows awkwardly complicated, when they are chased by the feds, and increasingly dangerous, when Charlie's former gang of criminals enter the fray.

Sony premiered a 4-minute "super preview" for The Amazing Spider-Man tonight during America's Got Talent. For those of you wondering, a super preview is about 90 seconds of one extended (and cut-down) action set piece, followed by two-and-a-half minutes of trailer (this trailer, pretty much). Thankfully, the scene in question is absolutely justifies the super preview treatment. I love that the sequence, in which the Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans) knocks several cars off a bridge, is uniquely Spider-Man rather than something you could insert into any superhero movie. Not just in the way Spidey snatches every car from the water below with his web shooters, but also the way Peter Parker (played by the soulful Andrew Garfield) can relate to the young kid he saves thanks to his relative youth among the premier comic book heroes.

Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field also star in The Amazing Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb for a July 3 release. Watch the super preview after the jump.

Orlando Bloom is a charming guy, but I've always believed his on-screen persona suffered because his talent is always chasing his unbelievable beauty. The Good Doctor may have found a way around that problem. First, director Lance Daly gave him a flat haircut, downgrading his looks from A to A-. Second, the lead character, "an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues," is reserved and buttoned down. So any perceived woodenness may well be in service of the performance. The Good Doctor spent the last few months touring the festival circuit, receiving mostly good reviews and positive notices for Bloom's performance. A new trailer paints a vivid picture of the thriller, including some heavy lifting on Bloom's part once "things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession." If Bloom pulls that off, I'm eager to check it out.

Riley Keough, Rob Morrow, Taraji P. Henson, and Michael Peña also star. The Good Doctor opens on August 31. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Fox unveiled their new lineup for fall 2012 earlier this morning, and we recently posted full trailers for the network’s new comedy shows. Now it’s time to take a look at Fox’s new dramas, and Kevin Williamson’s (Scream, The Vampire Diaries) serial killer series The Following is most certainly a standout. The trailer is genuinely chilling, and Kevin Bacon stars as an FBI agent who is reeled back into the department after a notorious serial killer (James Purefoy) he put away years ago escapes from death row. The serial killer creates a network of communicating with other active serial killers in the country, thus creating quite the problem for Bacon’s character. Sadly, the series doesn’t debut until midseason so we’ll have to wait a while to check out the full pilot, but I’m beyond intrigued by this trailer.

The other new Fox drama, The Mob Doctor, is decidedly less promising. Jordana Spiro (My Boys) stars as a Chicago surgeon with a lifelong debt to the Southside mob. I wasn’t particularly taken by any of the characters, but I presume the series could eventually prove promising. Hit the jump to watch the trailers.
