A new image from Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby has gone online. The image shows "flamboyant and suave Jewish money lender" Meyer Wolfsheim (Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan) sitting next to Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) and Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). However, don't expect to see much of Wolfsheim in the picture. “I play Meyer Wolfsheim for about a few seconds...," Bachchan tells THR, "by the time you look down on your popcorn to pick another morsel, I'd be gone from the film...he, he...kinda short service... But with giants of Hollywood - Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire." Still, it's not bad gig for someone who hosts the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? I never saw Regis Philbin in a potential awards-contender.

Hit the jump to check out the full image, and click here for Steve's thoughts on the footage he saw at CinemaCon. The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke, Isla Fisher, and Joel Edgerton. The Great Gatsby opens in 3D on December 25th.

Here’s the synopsis for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby:
“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the ...

Until Wes Anderson's upcoming flick Moonrise Kingdom, Owen Wilson had played a part in all of the director's feature-length films. While the streak has been broken, their relationship will carry on with Anderson's next untitled feature. Anderson has now told the Dallas News' Pop Culture Blog [via The Film Stage] that the movie will be an ensemble piece, he's written a part for Wilson, and the actor has signed on. The script is halfway finished, but few details are known about the picture. However, Anderson, who's currently spending some time in Paris, did tell Harper's BAZAAR [via The Playlist] that "it’s a film I want to make in Europe, a Euro movie."

Hit the jump for a list of other projects on Wilson's slate. Moonrise Kingdom stars Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman, Jared Gilman, and Kara Hayward. The film opens in limited release this Friday, and will expand wide in the following weeks.

The untitled Anderson project is yet another addition to Wilson's busy schedule. The actor is also attached to star in the action-drama The Coup with Pierce Brosnan; Shawn Levy's comedy The Internship with Vince Vaughn; Matthew Weiner's feature debut You Are Here with Jack Black and Amy Poehler; and Errol Morris' Freezing People Is Easy with Paul Rudd, Kristen Wiig, and Christopher Walken. As long as Wilson brings the same energy and enthusiasm he recently displayed in Midnight in Paris, I'm glad to see him attached to so many projects.

Last week, a random Twitter user mentioned her desire to see The Rock as a DC superhero. Dwayne Johnson, forever in touch with his fans, tweeted in response, "Funny U say that..." That obviously sparked fervent speculation. Bleeding Cool followed up with an interesting possibility: the antihero biker Lobo. Bleeding Cool admits their source is untested, one who purportedly overheard Johnson boasting at a party that he will play Lobo. But the rumor is a good fit. There is a Lobo adaptation in development. Brad Peyton, the director of Johnson's last movie Journey 2: The Center of the Earth, is steering the ship. And no actor really has that Lobo physique other than The Rock. So all the pieces fit---we're just missing the important ones that spell "O-f-f-i-c-i-a-l" across the top. We'll put a pin in this for now. In the meantime, hit the jump for background on Lobo.

An alien, Lobo works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Introduced as a hardened, rarely used hardboiled villain in the 1980s, the character remained in limbo until his revival as an anti-hero biker in the early 1990s... "I have no idea why Lobo took off," Giffen once said in an interview, referring to the 1990s incarnation of Lobo he created. "I came up with him as an indictment of the Punisher, Wolverine, hero prototype and somehow he caught on as the high violence poster boy. Go figure." ...

Lobo is a Czarnian with exceptional strength and fortitude. He enjoys nothing ...

James McAvoy has signed on to star opposite Jessica Chastain in one of the most intriguing projects in development right now, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. It is a double feature that explores "how a married couple in New York City deals with an emotional, life-altering experience, from two different perspectives." The perspective of the husband (McAvoy) is seen in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him, while the story of the wife (Chastain) is told in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her. (It used to be His and Hers, back when Joel Edgerton was attached to play the husband.) This ambitious project is the feature debut of writer/director Ned Benson. Hit the jump for the full press release.

The press release indicates both films will "work on their own," but I am much more interested in how and where they intertwine. I hope to see the release plan in the next announcement. Will they come out at the same time, or does one perspective necessarily precede the other? Either way (and with all due respect to Edgerton), McAvoy and Chastain are reliably great, perfect for such a risky idea. Here's the press release:

Golden Globe®-nominee James McAvoy (Atonement, X-Men First Class) will star opposite Academy® Award-nominee Jessica Chastain (The Help, The Tree of Life) in the double-feature film project for Myriad Pictures, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her.

Ned Benson (In Defiance of Gravity) wrote the two scripts and will direct both films.

This weekend Hero Complex in association with The Los Angeles Times hosted the third annual Hero Complex Film Festival. Highlights to which included a screening of Shaun of the Dead with Edgar Wright, Wall-E with director Andrew Stanton, A Clockwork Orange with Malcolm McDowell, and Robocop with Peter Weller.

Joss Whedon’s cult-favorite Serenity closed out the festival Sunday night. Star Nathan Fillion was on hand to discuss the film and its short-lived television predecessor Firefly. (I still maintain that show’s season/series finale "Objects in Space to be the finest piece of writing Whedon’s ever done.) In the post screening Q&A, Fillion reflected on reuniting with the cast for the film, reciting Whedon’s particular cadences and previews his role in another Whedon project/film: Much Ado About Nothing. For all this and more, hit the jump.

What follows is a recap of the post–Serenity Nathan Fillion Q&A:

Moderator Geoff Boucher introduces Nathan Fillion – first thing discussed Fillion’s current show Castle. A lot of screaming and cheering at the Castle name-drop (in particular the women in the audience).

Boucher: “Castle’s going on Season Five. A lot of shows don’t even make it that far…”

Fillion: “…I know…”

Fillion discusses working on soap operas early in his career (Note: he appeared as Joey Buchanan on One Life To Live). “It’s a lot of work. A lot of memorizing. They (the producers) sent me to an acting coach just to deal with the pace.” Compared to prime time, soap operas aren’t as “cinematic” but the shoot is much quicker. Fillion ...

HBO's current comedy roster is stacked with some of the best writers in the business: Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Lena Dunham/Judd Apatow (Girls), Armando Iannucci (Veep), Mike White (Enlightened). If you count the hourlong The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin seemed like the apex in terms of pure writers. Yet HBO has outdone themselves, entering into development on a half-hour comedy series with Charlie Kaufman. Even better, frequent collaborator Catherine Keener is set to star and produce alongside Kaufman. The untitled series is described as "an exploration of one day in a woman’s life and how the events leading up to it can affect, or not, the reality in which she lives." What? More after the jump.

Deadline proposes the entirely believable premise that the networks have chased Keener for years, but she's declined television offers until now. Keener starred in Kaufman's breakout script Being John Malkovich and Kaufman's directorial debut Synecdoche, New York. The actress already has another role lined up in Kaufman's next feature, Frank or Francis, so it's clear their partnership sparks as well off-screen as it does on. Keener will fit right in next to Laura Dern, Lena Dunham, and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss in the new female-led comedy lineup on HBO.

HBO is fast-tracking the series, so maybe it will be ready to pair with season two of Enlightened? I hope. I can't wait to see this, even though I do not understand the logline at all. Does the entire series really only revolve around one day? ...

The first official poster has been released for Aaron Sorkin's new HBO drama, The Newsroom. The series stars Jeff Daniels as the primary anchor of a failing 24-hour news network who is ready to break the monotony of cable news and go back to the roots of informing his audience. We already saw his character have a fantastic (and much publicized) outburst in the first trailer. Then, The Newsroom followed up with a series of additional trailers that developed a bit more of the storyline and also introduced us to the rest of the cast: such as Daniels' character's new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Now, we have the first look at the official poster (in addition to some shorter trailers, in case you've missed the previous ones). Hit the jump to check out the slick official poster for HBO's The Newsroom, which debuts Sunday, June 24th at 10PM.

Here are the new trailers for The Newsroom, followed by the official synopsis and the new official poster below:

This new series centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). In a summer filled with superhero spectacles and sci-fi extravaganzas, it's nice to get back to the roots of Depression-era, moonshine-runnin' crime dramas. Director John Hillcoat (The Road) has the cure for what ails you in Lawless, an adaptation of the Matt Bondurant novel, "The Wettest County in the World." Lawless stars Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) and Tom Hardy (Inception) as the Bondurant brothers, Southern bootleggers during the Prohibition era. A new clip from the film shows a nice moment between the two characters and highlights the range of both. Another clip introduces the strangely androgynous character, Special Agent Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce) who has swooped in from Chicago to shut the Bondurants down. There's some good stuff on display here, hints of which were seen in this trailer. You should also check out these awesome character posters. Lawless, also starring Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska and Dane DeHaan will debut in theaters on August 29th. Hit the jump to see the clips.

Check out the new clips from Lawless followed by the official synopsis below:

‘We control the fear, you understand? Without the fear, we are all good as dead.’ Acclaimed director John Hillcoat (THE ROAD, THE PROPOSITION) delivers a thrillingly vivid slice of American outlaw history in his epic gangster tale, LAWLESS. 3D has become almost a dirty word in the current moviegoing environment, but it’s a useful tool when done with purpose and precision (see: Hugo). One of the genres in which 3D really shines is animation, and with Disney’s announcement that they’ll be releasing a number of classics back into theaters we’ll get the chance to see some excellent 3D put to good use. First up on Disney-Pixar’s theatrical re-release slate is Finding Nemo, and a full trailer for the 3D release is now online. The trailer plays up the 3D aspect, and I’m assuming it’s more effective when seen in three dimensions. While 3D seems like a perfect fit for Pixar’s gorgeous ocean-set pic, I’m also just eager to see Andrew Stanton’s incredibly sweet, funny, and heartfelt film on the big screen once again.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer for Finding Nemo 3D, and brace for the 3D re-releases of Monster’s Inc. and The Little Mermaid which will follow. Finding Nemo returns to theaters on September 14th.

Click over to Yahoo! to watch in HD.

Here’s the first trailer for Finding Nemo for comparison’s sake, which is actually pretty similar:

A few days ago, I posted an awesome Loki figure from The Avengers made by Hot Toys. It was the first "Geek Gifts" article in a long time and I mentioned that the response to the post would determine if we'd continue the column. Let's just say it was a success. So, as promised, it's time for another "Geek Gifts" article and this one is especially relevant for those that like cool t-shirts.

If you've ever seen my video interviews, you know I love wearing t-shirts. I especially love wearing shirts that are inspired by my favorite movies and TV shows. Recently, a friend turned me onto a company called RedBubble, and they let their users submit their own designs and some of them are pretty great. Since I know a lot of you don't have the time to go through the thousands of reader submissions, I've done the legwork for you. So hit the jump if you like Studio Ghibli, Breaking Bad, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Tron, the original Superman, Battle of the Planets, The Lion King, and more.

Before going any further, I've left out what I really love about RedBubble: they let you pick the color and style of your shirt. Everything is up to you. You choose between 21 different colors and they have every size (small to 3XL) and style (normal t-shirts, v-necks, long sleeve, girly fitted, and hoodie's). Keep in mind they use American Apparel shirts so they run a bit small.

Regarding price, they're determined by ...

Opening this weekend is the third film in the Men in Black franchise. Barry Sonnenfeld returns as director and the story finds Will Smith’s Agent J traveling back in time to save Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K. In addition to Bill Hader as Andy Warhol, Josh Brolin plays a younger version of Jones’ character and does an incredible job. You'll absolutely think you're watching Jones as a young man. Men in Black 3 also stars Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve, and Emma Thompson. In addition, make-up effects artist Rick Baker returns to the franchise and you can see some of his creature work here. For more on the film, here's all our previous coverage.

Last week I got to speak with most of the cast and every day this week I'll be posting a new interview. Up first is Tommy Lee Jones. While known as a tough interview (which he is), when Jones had something to say his answers were interesting and I even got him to smile a few times. We talked about Men in Black 3, Captain America: The First Avenger, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, his favorite movies, how many takes does he like to do as an actor and as the director, and more. Hit the jump to watch.

We've got some Little Miss Sunshine alumni casting news today: one's an Oscar-nominated topliner and the other is a BAFTA-nominated addition to an already phenomenal cast. Check out the headlines below:

Abigail Breslin is set to star in the title role of Final Girl, a thriller from debut director Tyler Shields.
Paul Dano will join the cast of Steve McQueen's Twelve Years a Slave, a picture that already boasts Michael Fassbender, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Adepero Oduye and Brad Pitt.

Hit the jump for more on each picture.

Deadline reports that Breslin will star in Final Girl as the victim of a group of wild teenage boys who choose her to be part of their final initiation. Unfortunately for them, they chose the wrong girl to pick on. Photographer Shields will direct from a script by Adam Prince based on a story by Steve Scarlata, Alejandro Seri and Johnny Silver. Breslin will lend her voice to the upcoming animated film Zambezia and has started production on inverse-ghost story, Haunter. She's currently filming the highly-anticipated sci-fi adaptation of Ender's Game and will then shoot The Hive, opposite Halley Berry.

Deadline also reports that Dano will join Twelve Years a Slave. The film centers on a free black man (Ejiofor) who was lured into the promise of work (playing the violin for a circus) but was drugged, kidnapped and forced to work as a slave on a cotton plantation in Louisiana. Dano will star as one of the cruel slave owners. Twelve Years a Slave ...

Though it seemed for a minute there that Tom Cruise wasn’t going to come back from Oprahgate (aka Couchgate, aka The Day Tom Went Crazy), the actor is doing a damn fine job of lining up some high profile pictures as of late. He plays a rock star in this summer’s musical Rock of Ages, he recently wrapped the Jack Reacher adaptation One Shot, he’s currently filming Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi epic Oblivion, he’s set to follow that up with Doug Liman’s sci-fi actioner All You Need Is Kill and may be teaming with Robert Downey Jr. for El Presidente.

Cruise also has a few sequels/remakes on the horizon as he’s attached to star in a reboot of Van Helsing, he’s being courted to return for Top Gun 2, and Clint Eastwood wants him to star in a redo of A Star Is Born. The actor is adding another remake to the pile, but this time he’s taking on a bona fide classic: The Magnificent Seven. Hit the jump for more.

Variety reports that MGM is developing a remake of John Sturges’ 1960 Western The Magnificent Seven with Cruise attached to star. Apparently the actor has been keen on remaking the pic for quite some time now, but it could be a while before we see the Cruise-infused Magnificent Seven on the big screen as the film isn’t in the actor’s immediate plans. That said, he intends to take the lead once the pic finally does come to fruition.

The Magnificent Seven was, itself, ...

Coming off of his latest feature, The Five-Year Engagement, director Nicholas Stoller is lining up his next project. THR reports that Stoller is now in negotiations to helm the R-rated comedy Townies. Universal snatched the project up last summer and set Seth Rogen to star as a regular guy who lives near an alpha male fraternity house and has to contend with a raucous member of the fraternity (Zac Efron) who wreaks havoc on his life. The casting made the project interesting to begin with, and now the addition of Stoller—known for his strong infusion of heart and comedy—makes the project even more intriguing.

Five-Year Engagement wasn’t exactly a box office hit, but Universal must be happy with the pic as they’ve tapped the Forgetting Sarah Marshall director to helm Townies. The script was written by Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Stoller and/or Rogen take a pass. In addition to Five-Year Engagement, Stoller co-wrote last year’s The Muppets with Jason Segel and is currently scripting a sequel alongside Muppets director James Bobin.

In the pantheon of feature films born out of SNL skits, there’s a big hit-and-miss factor; for every Wayne’s World, there’s three It’s Pat’s. A film version of MacGruber hit theaters in 2010 and any way you slice it, the movie was a disaster at the box office. Against a budget of $10 million, the film grossed a total of $9.2 million worldwide. I wasn’t a huge fan of Will Forte’s MacGruber sketch to begin with, so I wasn’t about to go sit through a 90-minute version in theaters. However, the film hit DVD and I started hearing from trustworthy friends that it was actually good.

After being commanded to watch it multiple times, I finally relented and watched MacGruber myself. It turns out that the film is actually pretty fantastic. The jokes are ridiculously out-there, and Forte and director Jorme Taccone got away with making an insane comedy within the studio system. So it’s with great enthusiasm that I greeted the news today that Taccone and Forte are working on a follow-up to MacGruber that may or may not come to fruition. Hit the jump for more.

Speaking with ScreenCrush, Taccone confirmed that he’s developing a sequel to MacGruber:
“It would be me, Will and John [Solomon] writing it again. Every time I hang out with Will, we talk about all our cool ideas for the sequel. We have the idea for it and we have a title, but I won’t tell you what it is.”
Taccone further revealed that the sequel would ...

A new poster for The Dark Knight Rises has gone online, and it’s considerably more colorful than the previous posters we’ve seen for the concluding chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. Granted, the color comes from the fire of a burning and collapsing building, but it’s at least different enough from the black and white/greyscale of the previous one-sheets. I'm assuming this is the final poster for the film, but I could very well be wrong. I'm a bit more partial to the Batman/Bane standoff poster, but this "fire" poster isn't terrible.

Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.

Poster via the film’s Facebook page.

For comparison, here's the first poster that was released for the film. Could Nolan and Co. be trying to tell us something, or are they just playing on the "burning batsignal" motif from The Dark Knight again? Or, as Matt Goldberg points out, is Batman just really bad at noticing destruction behind him?

Earlier today, we got our first look at director Paul Thomas Anderson’s long-awaited new film The Master by way of a brief teaser. While it was definitely great way to start the day, select folks over at the Cannes Film Festival were treated to something a bit more special. The Weinstein Company offered an extended look at The Master, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and David O. Russell’s The Silver Linings Playbook a few hours ago.

While us common folk have to wait a while to see anything from the aforementioned titles, we’ve compiled a round-up of reactions to the footage from Tarantino’s latest for those interested to see how the pic is shaping up. Hit the jump for more.

The most rapturous response (unexpectedly) came from Django Unchained. The Weinstein Company showed off seven minutes of footage, and we’ll kick things off with some Twitter reactions:

Drew McWheeny, Hitfix:
"OMFG, 'Django Unchained' looks so good. SO GOOD. #Cannes"
Raffi Asdourian, The Film Stage:

"'Django Unchained' looks f'n badass... 7 minute trailer ending with Jamie Foxx shooting his pistol to James Brown 'Payback' 'The D is Silent'"

Twitch:

"'Django' gets the most whoops. Plenty of blood, plenty of laughs. Looks like it will be the Cristophe Waltz show. 'The D is silent.' #Cannes"
Now we’ll get to some more elaborate descriptions of the footage. First up, here’s what the folks at Vulture had to say:
“The big surprise? How funny this potentially controversial Western has turned out to be. In particular, Leonardo DiCaprio seems to be having the time ...

Earlier this month, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul teased the fifth and final season of Breaking Bad, and now AMC has officially announced the premiere date for the drama series this summer. The first eight episodes of the final season will begin airing on July 15th at 10/9c, and the final eight episodes will air sometime in the summer of 2013. I thought the break between the second season of The Walking Dead was brutal for fans, but this just almost seems cruel.

Following in the criminal footsteps of Cranston and Paul will be a low level team of law enforcement in Small Town Security. Details on the new series, as well as the return of Hell on Wheels can be found after the jump.Yet another unscripted series from AMC following in the footsteps of Comic Book Men and The Pitch premieres right after Breaking Bad on July 15th as Small Town Security debuts at 11/10c. The series focuses on a small, family-owned private security company located in rural Georgia. Expect larger-than-life southern characters and other such elements, and hope all these new unscripted series don't begin to overpower the original drama series that AMC has been a champion of for years now.

Speaking of which, Hell on Wheels returns later in the summer on August 12th at 9/8c. The second season continues the epic story of post-Civil War America, focusing on Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount), a former Confederate soldier, and his dramatic journey west as he struggles to leave his past ...

Summer is only just kicking off, but there's plenty of viewers who already can't wait for the fall, if only for the third season of The Walking Dead to premiere on AMC. Thankfully, though there's months until we see the premiere, AMC is teasing viewers with a behind-the-scenes featurette of the first episode of the third season, already in production. Words like dark, ominous, harder, faster are all tossed around by cast members like Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus. There's also hints and mentions of new characters we've already heard about including David Morrissey as The Governor and Danai Gurira as Michionne . There will be a great link behind the camera from the second season finale to the third season premiere as Ernest R. Dickerson is at the helm of both. Anyway, I'll let the featurette talk about the rest after the jump.
