Rich-K & Big J’s Fan-Made Lego Helm’s Deep Has Approximately 150,000 Bricks and 1,700 Mini-Figures

In February, we showed a 400,000 brick recreation of Hogwarts.  While it doesn’t have as many bricks, Rich-K & Big J‘s Helm’s Deep is just as impressive.  Lego does make a Helm’s Deep you can buy, and it’s fun.  It’s 1,368 pieces and it took me about four-and-a-half hours to build.  By comparison, Rich-K & Big J’s fan-made version is 150,000 pieces with 1,700 mini-figures and it’s only “90% completed”.  I have no idea how long it took to build, but the result has been worth it.  I especially like the touches of putting mountains in the background and filling every spare inch with either an uruk-hai or an elf.  I can’t seem to find Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas, but I’m assume they’re in there somewhere.

Fans are understandably excited as the release of Marvel’s Iron Man 3 is now only a few short days away, but in case the Shane Black-directed sequel isn’t enough to appease your fandom, another Iron Man-related product is being made available—though it comes with quite the hefty price tag.  Sideshow Collectibles has unveiled a life-size Iron Man Mark 42 collectible, which is basically a human-sized action figure.  The piece stands over seven feet tall and weighs over 100 lbs.  Moreover, it comes complete with LED light up eyes, arc reactor, palm, and display base.  The figure will run you $8499.99, and I can think of plenty of other causes worthy of that kind of money, but the figure is available for purchase nevertheless.  Hit the jump for more info and some images of the collectible.

Thursday evening’s TV ratings are in.  Here’s a brief rundown:

  • Also up was the Christmas episode of Community, which scored a 1.3 rating and 3.19 million viewers for a rise of 8% over last week’s 1.2 rating.
  • Unfortunately, the fantastic new drama series Hannibal was down 18% from last week’s 1.7 rating, hitting a 1.4 rating and 3.5 million viewers.  Seriously, this show is great.  Give it a shot, folks!

Though director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy came to a close last year with the release of The Dark Knight Rises, it appears that we’ll still be seeing material from the franchise for some time to come.  Hot Toys has posted a few curious images that tease the unboxing of a rather massive 1/6 scale model of “The Bat” from The Dark Knight Rises, revealing that Batman’s aerial vehicle could soon be yours.  No price is given, but one imagines this won’t exactly be cheap.  Pre-orders are expected to begin in the near future, so keep an eye out.

WonderCon 2013 is in full swing, and Steve and Dave are currently in Anaheim covering all the convention goodness here on Collider for those that are unable to make the trek.  Steve walked the floor earlier today and managed to snap images of some of the cool things he spotted, which includes some great looks at the Man of Steel action figures.  While we’ve seen images of these figures before, Steve’s photos give us a close-up, detailed look at a number of characters from one of the year’s biggest movies.

WonderCon: New Images and Info on the Kenner ALIEN Action Figures Being Sold Later This Year by Super7

by     Posted: March 29th, 2013 at 2:30 pm

Back in the late 70s, Kenner, the same company that made the original Star Wars figures, designed 3 ¾” action figures for the original Alien.  At the time, Kenner thought Alien would be a big hit and the figures might be another Star Wars.  They thought wrong.  Shortly after they released a 12″ Alien figure, which barely sold, Kenner decided to kill the 3 ¾” toy line and the figures never saw the light of day.  However, the prototypes eventually leaked into collectors hands and they were the types of figures everyone always wanted but could never own.

Until now.

Later this year, Super7 will be releasing new action figures based on the original 33-year-old prototypes and will use them to help make these “lost toys” a reality.  Like all the toys from the 70s, the figures will be loaded with five points of articulation, accessories, and period-authentic blister card packaging.  Included will be Ripley, Ash, Dallas, Kane in Nostromo Suit and the Alien.  Hit the jump for more info and images.

Believe it or not, even though the Batman TV series aired in the 1960s and continues to exist in popular culture today, there was no licensed merchandise for the classic series…until now!  Warner Bros. recently launched a toy and apparel line, partnered with Junk Food Clothing, that pays homage to the retro show.  A kick-off event was hosted at Hollywood’s Meltdown Comics at which Batman star Adam West himself showed up, along with a host of celebrities and fans.  Hit the jump to check out some footage from the event along with images of the new toys and apparel.

For those who have been closely following the progress of the new Arrested Development episodes on Netflix, the following probably won’t come as too big a shock, but it has been confirmed that upcoming fourth season of the show will be the only batch of new episodes produced for the streaming giant.  The formulation of this new season was a herculean task of scheduling given the series’ large ensemble cast, but somehow creator Mitch Hurwitz pulled it off and fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the upcoming fourth season lives up to the incredibly high expectations.

Hit the jump for more on why Netflix is only producing one season of the series and how the upcoming episodes fit into the overall plan for Arrested Development’s resurrection.

For our final Toy Fair image article, we’re doing a huge roundup of NECA toy images.  While they’re making figures/toys for all the regular movies and TV shows you’d expect, the highlight of NECA’s 2013 lineup is the 60′s Batman featuring Adam West!  The reason it’s taken so long to get an Adam West Batman is lawyers.  From what I’ve been told, Warner Bros. owns Batman, while 20th Century Fox owns the show.  For years the two companies have been trying to work out an agreement to release DVDs/Blu-rays and new merchandise with little success.  However, late last year, the two companies finally worked out a deal and 2013 should see a lot of new toys and hopefully a home video release.  Which is great news for the fans.

In addition to checking out the first 60′s Batman toy in quite some time, you can also see new toys for Aliens, A Christmas Story, Captain America, Michael Keaton’s Batman, Carrie, Gremlins, E.T., Harry Potter, Hulk, Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Predator, Prometheus, Scarface, Rambo, The Hobbit, The Hunger Games, Thor, and a lot more.

If you’re a toy collector, you’ve likely had a great past few days.  That’s because every February at Toy Fair in NYC, all the toy manufactures  show off tons of upcoming toys and many are being revealed for the first time.  Over the past 24 hours we’ve posted a ton of them broken down by manufacturer, and we’re not close to being done.  However, due to how many we’ve yet to post, I’m going to take a group approach to this article.

As you can see after the jump, we’ve got over 100 pictures from the convention floor and you can check out some of the new toys for Iron Man (and Iron Man 3), The Walking DeadBatmanThe Dark KnightStar Wars, DC Justice, Real Steel, Marvel Selects, Resident Evil, Arkham City, Star TrekSupermanThorWonder Woman, Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible, and much more.

While some people like heavy articulation on their action figures, others just want something cool to sit on a desk.  Enter McFarlane Toys.  While they’re essentially just small statues, they have great attention to detail, and they always look cool wherever you display them.  At this year’s Toy Fair, McFarlane showed off some new toys for The Walking Dead, Spawn, and Assassin’s Creed.  Hit the jump to check them out.

Every year at Comic-Con, I always see a huge line at the Funko/Pop! booth for their newest 4″ vinyl figures.  While I’m not as familiar with vinyl toys as I am action figures, I do know a lot of people collect them and they make a lot of convention exclusives.  Over the past few years, they’ve produced over 300 different characters ranging from Disney to Darth Vader.

At this year’s Toy Fair, Funko/Pop! showed off some of their upcoming figures as well as some Wacky Wobblers for Iron Man 3, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, DC and Marvel superheros, Ace Ventura, Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to check them out.

As you’ve probably noticed, over the past 48 hours, we’ve posted a ton of toy articles.  The reason is every February in New York City, the toy industry holds its yearly convention (Toy Fair) and it’s where every toy manufacturer shows off their upcoming products.  If you’re a fan of movie related toys, Lego, or just cool stuff, Toy Fair is basically a huge preview of what you’ll be spending your money on this year.

Anyway, while walking around the show yesterday, Samantha Cheirif took a number of pictures and this batch covers Mezco Toyz Breaking Bad and NECA’s Carrie, Kick-Ass 2, Pacific Rim, Prometheus, Aliens, Rambo, The Lone Ranger, The Hobbit, Gremlins and more.  Hit the jump to check out the images.

While director Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have done a great job keeping most of the secrets for Man of Steel, one thing was always going to be a problem they couldn’t avoid: merchandizing.  No matter what a studio does to keep everything under wraps, once the toys start to be displayed, everything is quickly revealed.  And today is no different.

Thanks to Toy Fair opening their doors in New York City this morning, we’ve gotten some great new looks at the costumes for Superman (Henry Cavill), Jor-El (Russell Crowe), General Zod (Michael Shannon), and Faora (Antje Traue).   While we previous posted toy images of General Zod and Jor-El, they were the smaller action figures and the ones today are 1:6 scale statue’s, which feature more detail.   Hit the jump to take a look at the images.  Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.
