With the Pixar prequel Monsters University opening in theaters this summer, the folks over at Threadless hosted a contest asking artists to design t-shirts inspired by the numerous characters that inhabit the first film, Monsters Inc. The result is a pretty great collection of interesting and fun custom t-shirts that simultaneously express one’s love of art and Pixar movies. Whether you prefer sporting an advertisement featuring the Abominable Snowman or something a bit more artsy that shows off the memorable Monsters Inc. doors, there’s something for everyone. Head over to Threadless to peruse the collection.

Believe it or not, even though the Batman TV series aired in the 1960s and continues to exist in popular culture today, there was no licensed merchandise for the classic series…until now! Warner Bros. recently launched a toy and apparel line, partnered with Junk Food Clothing, that pays homage to the retro show. A kick-off event was hosted at Hollywood’s Meltdown Comics at which Batman star Adam West himself showed up, along with a host of celebrities and fans. Hit the jump to check out some footage from the event along with images of the new toys and apparel.

A few days ago, I posted an awesome Loki figure from The Avengers made by Hot Toys. It was the first “Geek Gifts” article in a long time and I mentioned that the response to the post would determine if we’d continue the column. Let’s just say it was a success. So, as promised, it’s time for another “Geek Gifts” article and this one is especially relevant for those that like cool t-shirts.
If you’ve ever seen my video interviews, you know I love wearing t-shirts. I especially love wearing shirts that are inspired by my favorite movies and TV shows. Recently, a friend turned me onto a company called RedBubble, and they let their users submit their own designs and some of them are pretty great. Since I know a lot of you don’t have the time to go through the thousands of reader submissions, I’ve done the legwork for you. So hit the jump if you like Studio Ghibli, Breaking Bad, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Tron, the original Superman, Battle of the Planets, The Lion King, and more.

It’s a sign of defiant nerdery to wear the Starfleet emblem around your neck. It tells the world, “I love Star Trek and while I did not graduate from Starfleet Academy, I’m a big fan of their work and wanted to show my appreciation in pendant-form.” But now there’s a better way to draw attention to your brazen love of all things Trek. The Amazon.com Collection is selling jewel-encrusted Starfleet pendants
. Right now, a garish, unflattering pendant could be yours for the low, low price of $39.00. But maybe you want to show that that Trek is as diverse as the colors of the rainbow. Well you are in luck because you can buy something even worse than the pendant with all the cheap cubic-zirconia in it.
For the Trek fan in your life that you really dislike, this is a great gift for the holiday season. Hit the jump to check out images of these stylish accessories.

If you’re a fan of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, Threadless just put on sale a cool Twin Peaks related t-shirt called “Welcome to Twin Peaks.” As you can see in the pictures above and after the jump, the shirt is the type you’d buy at a tourist center, or in a town gift shop. In the lower right corner, it lists off some of the famous locations like the Timber Falls Motel, Mo’s Motor, Big Ed’s Gas Farm, and a number of other places. Like all Threadless t-shirts, they only print up a limited number, so if you like it, don’t wait too long.

RIPT’s shirt of the day is probably a must-buy for fans of The Hunger Games. It’s a clever play on the Survivor logo and I’m sure it’s made from the finest fabric the Capitol has to offer. I’m not a big enough fan to buy it but I know plenty of devoted Hunger Games fans (do you guys have a nickname? Tributes? Mockingjays? The Hungry?) read the site so I thought I would bring this to your attention.
Also, side note: looking at other movie websites, I’ve noticed that a lot of folks think The Hunger Games is another Twilight-like series. That was my initial concern as well, but I promise that Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence in the movie) is the anti-Bella Swan. In the first book she’s a stone-cold badass and it’s not until the following novels that she becomes mopey and kind of unbearable. Anyway, hit the jump to check out the shirt. Gary Ross’ adaptation of The Hunger Games hits on March 23, 2012.

While there’s an official store for Mystery Science Theater 3000 gear (warning: you are likely to buy something while browsing it), they only have a few t-shirts. Sadly, none of them are as great as “MysteryTheater3K” which takes the iconic silhouettes of Crow, Tom Servo, and Joel/Mike and puts them against an audience of all the genre monsters they mocked throughout the show’s great run. This shirt could only be made better by the presence of Zap Rowsdower.

There are some charming geek-friendly shirts that are on sale today and today only. First up, for the Star Trek nerds we have “Original Space Drunk” which has Captain Kirk showing he has a little Captain Morgan in him by standing proudly over the body of a redshirt. The shirt bears the fun inscription, “Boldly Going Anywhere, Banging Anything, and Getting Red Shirts Killed In The Process.”
For the Star Wars geeks, there’s “Tatooine Suns” which will show off your love of not only desert planets, but also basketball. Hit the jump to check out both shirts and links for where to buy them.

Once again, there’s a Teefury shirt that combines Lost with Back to the Future. But this time, Lost is finished and you can buy the shirt knowing how you feel about the series as a whole. Or maybe you don’t care and just like seeing the old DHARMA bus hit 88mph. It would certainly be an easier way to break the space-time continuum than crashing a plane.
Hit the jump to check out the shirt. It’s available for sale today only.

Today is Groundhog Day so naturally you’re going to be watching Groundhog Day. But what else can you do to celebrate this holiday? More importantly, what else can you do to celebrate the greatness of Bill Murray? You can get this shirt, which has some of Murray’s most famous roles in Groundhog form. Unfortunately, they can’t see their shadows so that means about 18 months of Garfield.

Forget the new Starbucks logo. While the coffee’s great, I’m not sure its mermaid design could rival a Darth Vader-inspired “Darth Roast” t-shirt. Designed by tattoo artist Jason C. Reed, the tee is a clever take on the famous coffeehouse’s logo featuring a headshot of the Dark Lord himself. Hit the jump to check out the shirt, which is on sale for today only.

This morning, there are two geek-friendly shirts available for purchase that you might want to buy. First up, RIPT Apparel has “Droid Drive-In”. Designed by Matt Wrightson, the shirt encourages you to fire up your landspeeder and head over to Beggar’s Canyon for a good time at the moving pictures/holograms.
Also for sale is the very cool “So Say We Can Do It” shirt from TeeFury. Combining the remake of Battlestar Galactica with the famous World War II propaganda image of “We Can Do It“, this shirt designed by “Bregan1989″ would also make an awesome poster. Hit the jump to check out both shirts, which are available to buy today only.

While I’m not sure how much cultural cache TRON holds after the disappointing TRON: Legacy, this is still a fun t-shirt. I wish Legacy had this kind of playfulness and seeing a guy riding around on an old-timey light cycle brings a smile to my face.

A couple of cool t-shirts are on sale today and today only. First up from Teefury is a cute Lost t-shirt called “Rockem Sockem Candidates” [Spoilers if you haven't seen Lost] It’s a little sad but also slightly true to diminish Jack and Locke to minor pawns in Jacob and The Man in Black’s game. But while chess may be more sophisticated, the pieces rarely rock or sock.
The other shirt comes from RIPT Apparel and is a nice sketch of everyone’s favorite pederast, The Jesus from The Big Lebowski. If you’re the kind of person that can pull of wearing purple, then you’ll want to wear this shirt down to the bowling alley and fuck people in the ass (figuratively speaking). Hit the jump to check out both shirts.
