The first official poster has been released for Aaron Sorkin's new HBO drama, The Newsroom. The series stars Jeff Daniels as the primary anchor of a failing 24-hour news network who is ready to break the monotony of cable news and go back to the roots of informing his audience. We already saw his character have a fantastic (and much publicized) outburst in the first trailer. Then, The Newsroom followed up with a series of additional trailers that developed a bit more of the storyline and also introduced us to the rest of the cast: such as Daniels' character's new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Now, we have the first look at the official poster (in addition to some shorter trailers, in case you've missed the previous ones). Hit the jump to check out the slick official poster for HBO's The Newsroom, which debuts Sunday, June 24th at 10PM.

Here are the new trailers for The Newsroom, followed by the official synopsis and the new official poster below:

This new series centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles ...

A new poster for The Dark Knight Rises has gone online, and it’s considerably more colorful than the previous posters we’ve seen for the concluding chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. Granted, the color comes from the fire of a burning and collapsing building, but it’s at least different enough from the black and white/greyscale of the previous one-sheets. I'm assuming this is the final poster for the film, but I could very well be wrong. I'm a bit more partial to the Batman/Bane standoff poster, but this "fire" poster isn't terrible.

Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.

Poster via the film’s Facebook page.

For comparison, here's the first poster that was released for the film. Could Nolan and Co. be trying to tell us something, or are they just playing on the "burning batsignal" motif from The Dark Knight again? Or, as Matt Goldberg points out, is Batman just really bad at noticing destruction behind him?

Here are links to our recent coverage of the film:

Earlier today we got our first look at director Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly anticipated new film The Master. The Weinstein Company showed off the first footage from the drama at the Cannes Film Festival today, where they’re also set to debut another incredibly promising property that’s set for release later this year: Killing Them Softly. The film marks director Andrew Dominik’s follow up to his phenomenal 2007 film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and stars Brad Pitt as a mob enforcer who’s tasked with investigating the robbery of a high-stakes poker game.

The first clip for Killing Them Softly debuted earlier this month, but a stylish new teaser poster has just gone online. It’s minimalist yet enticing, and I love the juxtaposition of the American flag with the pistol aimed right at the onlooker’s face. Hit the jump to check the poster out in all its glory. Killing Them Softly hits theaters on September 21st.

Poster via Moviefone.

Here’s the synopsis for the source material, George V. Higgins’ novel Cogan’s Trade:
[Cogan's Trade] tracks Jackie Cogan’s career in a gangland version of law and order. For Cogan is an enforcer; and when the Mob’s rules get broken, he gets hired to ply his trade — murder. In the gritty, tough-talking pages of Higgins’s 1974 national best-seller, Cogan is called in when a high-stake card game under the protection of the Mob is heisted. Expertly, with a ruthless businessman’s efficiency, a shrewd sense of other people’s weaknesses, and a style ...

Earlier today we got our first look at a crazy Matthew Fox in the James Patterson adaptation Alex Cross, but now we’ve got some images of Fox being somewhat normal-looking in director Peter Webber’s (Girl with a Pearl Earring) historical drama Emperor. The film takes place during the days following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II and stars Tommy Lee Jones as General Douglas MacArthur, the de facto ruler of Japan as Supreme Commander of the occupying forces. Fox plays a leading Japanese expert on the staff of MacArthur who is tasked with deciding whether or not Emperor Hirohito should be tried and hanged as a war criminal

These first images and sales posters aren’t anything mind blowing, but it’s pretty cool to see Jones sporting McArthur’s ginormous pipe. Hit the jump to take a look.

Here’s the synopsis for Emperor:
Inspired by true events, EMPEROR is an epic story of love and understanding set amidst the tensions and uncertainties of the days immediately following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II. On the staff of General Douglas MacArthur (Jones), the de facto ruler of Japan as Supreme Commander of the occupying forces, a leading Japanese expert, General Bonner Fellers (Fox) is charged with reaching a decision of historical importance: should Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal?

Interwoven with this nail-biting political thriller is the story of Fellers’ love affair with Aya, a Japanese exchange student he had met years previously in the ...

The period crime drama Lawless was on my radar for quite a while given its pedigreed cast and talented director, but the film rocketed towards the top of my most anticipated list with a truly stellar first trailer. Based on the novel The Wettest County in the World, the film stars Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy as two brothers who become bootleggers in the South during Prohibition. The trailer highlighted some truly badass moments for Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman, and I love the aesthetic that director John Hillcoat (The Road) has chosen for this story. A few character posters have gone online featuring a majority of the film’s cast. They’re not the most artful one sheets I've ever seen (the photoshop on Oldman is highly questionable), but I’m assuming these will appeal to wide commercial audiences who haven’t yet heard about the film.

Hit the jump to check out the posters. The film also stars Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska, and Dane DeHaan. Lawless will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and is slated to open nationwide on August 31st.

Here’s the synopsis for Lawless:
‘We control the fear, you understand? Without the fear, we are all good as dead.’ Acclaimed director John Hillcoat (THE ROAD, THE PROPOSITION) delivers a thrillingly vivid slice of American outlaw history in his epic gangster tale, LAWLESS. LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: three bootlegging siblings who made a run for ...

The first trailer for the historical drama Hyde Park on the Hudson has gone online. The film stars Bill Murray as President Franklin D. Roosevelt and centers on a weekend in 1939 which marked the first ever visit to America by a British monarchy when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited FDR’s upstate New York cottage. Roosevelt also had an affair with his cousin, Daisy, during the same weekend. The trailer basically plays like a funnier version of Downton Abbey, with a great deal of heart thrown in towards the end. Lest you think this is another droll, period drama without a sense of humor, Murray is splendidly fun as Roosevelt.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill), the film also stars Laura Linney, Olivia Williams, Samuel West, Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Marvel, Elizabeth Wilson, and Eleanor Bron. Focus Features will release Hyde Park on the Hudson on December 7th.

Click over to Yahoo! to watch in HD.

Here’s the official synopsis for Hyde Park on the Hudson:
In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Academy Award nominee Bill Murray) and his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams) host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West and Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson, in upstate New York – the first-ever visit of a reigning English monarch to America. With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support. But international affairs must be juggled with ...

The first teaser poster for the new James Bond film Skyfall has gone online. It's not really much, but I guess the word "teaser" should have clued us in on that front. It plays on the classic Bond imagery while hinting at a bit of a darker tone, and that may or may not be the London Underground. I’m eager to see what Sam Mendes will do with the Bond universe, and he’s off to a great start as he's assembled an incredible cast anchored by Javier Bardem as the villain. This is just a teaser for what’s to come, and we should have a much better idea of what to expect once the teaser trailer debuts on Monday, May 21st at 8:30am BST.

Hit the jump to check out the poster. And if you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage, including a video blog recap and interviews with director Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, producer Barbara Broccoli, Berenice Marlohe, and Naomie Harris and Ola Rapace, be sure to check it out. Skyfall opens on November 9th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Skyfall:
Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time. In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

With the Cannes Film Festival officially kicking off today, there is plenty of big, bold movie marketing to be found. For those of you who couldn't make it to France (including me), we thought we'd bring you some of the sights. Our international correspondent Magdalena (who you can follow on twitter) has been busy snapping some shots of promotional material at the festival. We already brought you the first iteration here, but now we have some more goodies to check out. They include shots of Spring Breakers, Dracula 3D, Brian De Palma's Passion and Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler. First up is the crowd-pleaser, Spring Breakers. If you're a fan of Adam McKay's Anchorman, the last few months have been amazing. Not only did Paramount suddenly greenlight the sequel after everyone involved thought it was dead, but the studio got McKay and the entire Channel 4 news team (sans Christina Applegate) to shoot a teaser trailer that will be attached to prints of The Dictator!

But it gets better.

In addition to the teaser trailer that should be online soon, Paramount has just released the first poster and it looks like the official title is Anchorman: The Legend Continues. Hit the jump for more.

For those just hearing about the sequel, last week one of our readers sent in a description of the teaser trailer:
“Just got out of a screening of The Dictator. There is an Anchorman 2 teaser attached featuring the Channel 4 news team (minus Veronica) stating how excited they are to return… a concept that Brick seems to have a hard time with. Also, not sure if it was an official title or more of a slogan but the screen title read Anchorman: The Legend Continues followed by ’2013′”
Then, earlier today, McKay talked about how the teaser trailer came about:
“Paramount came to us with the idea of the teaser and since we’re writing the script it was a good chance to see the characters and hang out with the actors to inspire writing. All of the actors (Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner) slipped right ...

Two new posters for director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man have gone online. Last night we got a look at an extended 4-minute trailer for the film, and I have to admit that the opening scene definitely got me; I think Brendan summed up Andrew Garfield’s performance perfectly when he called the actor “soulful.” These new posters are pretty nifty as well, with one highlighting Spidey’s view from on high and another sporting the film’s unofficial tagline, “The Untold Story Begins.”

Hit the jump to check out the posters. The film also stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The Amazing Spider-Man opens on July 3rd.

We shared the first image from director Brian De Palma’s erotic thriller Passion last week, and it was obvious from the “Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace kiss” photo that De Palma had something decidedly different up his sleeve. Now a few new images and the first poster from the film have gone online, and the “erotic thriller” moniker definitely seems appropriate. The story centers on the relationship between a woman and her “innocent, lovely and easily exploited” protégé. It also apparently involves McAdams wearing a creepy as hell mask and wielding a knife.

Hit the jump to check out the images. Passion will be shopped at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off this week.

Here’s the synopsis for Passion:
An erotic thriller in the tradition of “Dressed To Kill” and “Basic Instinct”, Brian de Palma’s PASSION tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé Isabelle is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… Christine takes pleasure in exercising control over the younger woman, leading her one step at a time ever deeper into a game of seduction and manipulation, dominance and humiliation. But when Isabelle falls into bed with one of Christine’s lovers, war breaks out. On the night of the murder, Isabelle ...

Orlando Bloom is a charming guy, but I've always believed his on-screen persona suffered because his talent is always chasing his unbelievable beauty. The Good Doctor may have found a way around that problem. First, director Lance Daly gave him a flat haircut, downgrading his looks from A to A-. Second, the lead character, "an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues," is reserved and buttoned down. So any perceived woodenness may well be in service of the performance. The Good Doctor spent the last few months touring the festival circuit, receiving mostly good reviews and positive notices for Bloom's performance. A new trailer paints a vivid picture of the thriller, including some heavy lifting on Bloom's part once "things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession." If Bloom pulls that off, I'm eager to check it out.

Riley Keough, Rob Morrow, Taraji P. Henson, and Michael Peña also star. The Good Doctor opens on August 31. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Official synopsis:
Martin Blake (Orlando Bloom) is an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues: Chief Resident Waylans (Rob Morrow), self-assured fellow intern Dan (Troy Garity) and no-nonsense nurse Theresa (Taraji P. Henson). But things are not going Martin's way and he can't seem to shake off his insecurities. When 18-year-old patient Diane (Riley Keough) is admitted for a kidney infection, Martin steps in, getting the ...

The Cannes Film Festival is about to get underway, and studios are rolling out their promotional material to make sure that those attending screenings of the festival’s films don’t forget about the studio releases that are still to come later this year. Our correspondent Magdalena (who you can follow on twitter) walked around the area of the festival earlier today and snapped some photos of the posters and billboards that are on display. In addition to a really cool banner for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, she also brought us our first look at the Tom Cruise thriller One Shot, based on the popular Jack Reacher character book series from author Lee Child. Moreover, there's a pretty great set-up for the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator outside one of the Carlton hotel.

Hit the jump to check out posters and billboards for The Amazing Spider-Man, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and more.

Though it’s tough to take director Robert Rodriguez at his word given how many times we’ve been promised that Sin City 2 is “right around the corner” over the past few years, he’s finally making good on two follow-ups this summer: Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. With production looming closer on both films, the first promo posters have now gone online. Rodriguez will first shoot the Machete sequel Machete Kills this month, which finds Danny Trejo returning as the murderous Mexican. Other returning actors include Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba, who will be joined by newcomers Mel Gibson, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, and recent addition Sofia Vergara. Then, Rodriguez will finally shoot the Sin City follow-up, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Hit the jump for more.

While the posters don’t necessarily reflect what the final product will look like, it’s nice to get a tease of what’s to come. Notably, the poster for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For confirms that Frank Miller will be returning as co-director alongside Rodriguez. Mickey Rourke and Rosario Dawson are both confirmed to be reprising their roles, and we’ll surely be hearing more casting announcements over the next few weeks. Story details are under wraps, but Rodriguez previously revealed that the film would involve three separate stories from Miller: A Dame to Kill For and two new ones that have yet to be announced.

Earlier this week, we showed you a couple of fake campaign ads for Jay Roach's comedy The Campaign starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. Today, Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and poster. The film centers on an incumbent candidate (Ferrell) who doesn't expect to be opposed in his run for a fifth-term, but he finds an unexpected challenger in the unassuming and dim-witted Marty Huggins (Galifianakis). I was hoping that the trailer would deliver more laughs than the campaign ads, but no dice. Yes, there's some baby-punching at the end, but overall this looks like another weak comic effort from Roach.

Here's the official synopsis for The Campaign:

Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about. Frankly, I gave up on vampires a long time ago, and it takes a lot for me to get interested in them, and that includes the HBO series True Blood. However, we know that there are plenty of True Blood-thirsty fans out there clamoring for every bit of hype as we lead up to the fifth season premiere on June 10th at 9/8c. Therefore, you'll be happy to know that in addition to the most recent trailer and teaser poster, we now have a batch of 12 character posters (with Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Moyer and more) that have so much red on them they would make Shaun of the Dead blush.

Honestly, they're not all that special, but for fans who have a favorite character (or enjoy seeing Christopher Meloni with fangs), they could make a cool iPhone background or something like that. Anyway, you can check out all 12 of the new posters, along with the most recent trailer, after the jump.

Here's the full season five trailer, followed by the posters:
