In a summer filled with superhero spectacles and sci-fi extravaganzas, it's nice to get back to the roots of Depression-era, moonshine-runnin' crime dramas. Director John Hillcoat (The Road) has the cure for what ails you in Lawless, an adaptation of the Matt Bondurant novel, "The Wettest County in the World." Lawless stars Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) and Tom Hardy (Inception) as the Bondurant brothers, Southern bootleggers during the Prohibition era. A new clip from the film shows a nice moment between the two characters and highlights the range of both. Another clip introduces the strangely androgynous character, Special Agent Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce) who has swooped in from Chicago to shut the Bondurants down. There's some good stuff on display here, hints of which were seen in this trailer. You should also check out these awesome character posters. Lawless, also starring Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska and Dane DeHaan will debut in theaters on August 29th. Hit the jump to see the clips.

Check out the new clips from Lawless followed by the official synopsis below:

‘We control the fear, you understand? Without the fear, we are all good as dead.’ Acclaimed director John Hillcoat (THE ROAD, THE PROPOSITION) delivers a thrillingly vivid slice of American outlaw history in his epic gangster tale, LAWLESS. LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: three bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. Based on author Matt Bondurant’s fictionalized ...

The first clip Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master has gone online. The film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a veteran who's haunted by his experiences during World War II, and decides to form his own religion as a result. Joaquin Phoenix plays a drifter who becomes the right-hand man to Hoffman's character. As you'll see from the clip, the movie apparently has a very heavy There Will Be Blood vibe both in terms of how its cut and from Jonny Greenwood's score. The Master is also Joaquin Phoenix's first movie since "retiring" from acting, and he looks absolutely amazing. His performance in this clip is both creepy and dangerous, and I can't wait to see him return to form in what could be one of his best roles to date.

Hit the jump to check out the clip. The film, which also stars Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshovsky, is having a sneak peek for press later today at the Cannes Film Festival. The Master will probably make the fall festival rounds before hitting theaters on October 12th.

It’s a Pixar extravaganza! We’ve got some exciting news to share regarding everyone’s favorite animation studio. First up, a new clip from the excellent-looking Brave has gone online. It skews towards the comedic side of the film, and I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that the triplets may or may not steal the show when the film hits theaters. Additionally—and excitingly—Pixar will be re-releasing a few of their classics exclusively in AMC theaters this Memorial Day weekend. Wall-E, Up, Ratatouille, and Toy Story 3 will return for a limited engagement from May 25 – 28th. Moreover, tickets will run at the family friendly and affordable price of $6.

Each screening will be accompanied by a behind-the-scenes look at Brave, and Toy Story 3 and Up will be running in 3D (the 3D in the latter is gorgeous). This is excellent news, and I’ll most definitely be taking advantage of the chance to see Andrew Stanton’s masterwork Wall-E on the big screen once more. Hit the jump to watch the new Brave clip and to watch the trailers for the aforementioned Pixar films set for re-release.

Here’s the synopsis for Brave:
Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of ...

This new clip from director Lee Daniels' (Precious) upcoming movie, The Paperboy, highlights not only stars Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman, but Daniels' editing style and a mighty fine musical choice. It features the same washed-out tones as the previous clip we posted and I have to say, I'm a fan of the look. However, the clip, titled "Jack's Daydream," is loaded with overlays, cuts and transitions that come across as a bit heavy handed. Luckily, the scene is saved by David Oyelowo snapping Jack and the audience back into reality. You'll have to look twice to spot Matthew McConaughey who, in a bit of a departure, doesn't steal the scene and barely registers on the radar.

The Paperboy, an adaptation of the Pete Dexter novel, features McConaughey and Efron playing a pair of brothers who team-up to investigate the potential wrongful conviction of a death-row inmate (John Cusack). Hit the jump to check out the clip.

The new clip from The Paperboy (via The Playlist) follows after the synopsis for the novel:
Moat County, Fla., is located where the St. John’s River flows north-a geographical rarity and, in literature, a signal that we’ve entered the strange and violent world of National Book Award-winner Dexter (Paris Trout). Narrator Jack James is the son of the Moat County Tribune’s editor and publisher. While Jack’s older brother, Ward, reports for the Miami Times, Jack has settled for a job delivering papers for the Tribune. But when Ward and his ...

You’d be forgiven for forgetting that there’s a Tom Cruise rock musical coming this summer in between all the superhero fare. While we’ve only gotten brief glimpses of the musical numbers from Rock of Ages in the film’s trailers, a full music video for the stars’ rendition of Journey’s “Any Way You Want It” has gone online. I actually think the idea for Rock of Ages is solid, but I absolutely cannot stand the production on these songs. Director Adam Shankman recruited Glee’s music producer Adam Anders to produce the songs for Rock of Ages, and all the choruses sound way, way, way overproduced. “Any Way You Want It” doesn’t sound terrible thanks to Mary J. Blige, but any time the chorus comes in I’m immediately taken out of the number.

In addition to the music video, an audio sample of Cruise singing “Pour Some Sugar On Me” has also landed online. Again, it’s overproduced, but Cruise doesn’t sound terrible on his own. Hit the jump to take a listen to the songs. Rock of Ages opens on June 15th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Rock of Ages:
“Rock of Ages” tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.
Here’s Cruise singing “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, ...

The marketing train for director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus continues to roll on, and the first clip from the film has now surfaced online. By now I don’t really think any more convincing to see the pic is necessary, but for those of you interested in seeing more from Scott’s return to sci-fi, this clip should serve as a nice appetizer. Said clip features the ship Prometheus landing on the planet we’ve seen so much of already, with Logan Marshall-Green delivering a particularly eerie line. If you missed the interview with screenwriter Damon Lindelof in which he talked about how he turned an Alien prequel into Prometheus, trying not to reveal too much in trailers, the viral campaign and much more I highly suggest you check it out.

Hit the jump to watch the clip. The officially R-rated Prometheus also stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, and Guy Pearce. The film opens in 3D on June 8th.

Here’s the synopsis for Prometheus:
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Hit the jump to check out the clips. The film also stars Sam Claflin, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Ian McShane. Snow White and the Huntsman opens on June 1st.

Dimension Films is doubling your pleasure with a second helping of boobs, blood and killer fish in this summer's Piranha 3DD. For a while now, I thought the extra D was a cleverly disguised breast joke, but apparently it stands for "David," as in David Hasselhoff. This new clip from the film features The Hoff in his oh-so-familiar role as a lifeguard. Fans of the glory days of Baywatch will get a kick out of the segment and the humor aimed at an aging Hasselhoff is spot-on to what you can expect from Piranha 3DD. Be sure to check out the trailer, red-band trailer, posters and images, as well. The film stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey. Piranha 3DD opens June 1st. Hit the jump to check out the new clip.

Here's a new clip from director John Gulager's Piranha 3DD, after the synopsis:
Having awoken from their spring break extravaganza at Lake Victoria, the swarm heads upstream where they look to make a meal out of Big Wet, a local water park where when it comes to fun, nobody does it wetter! Though they came to get wet, get loaded and get some, the staff and patrons get more than they bargained for when they must face the fiercest, most bloodthirsty piranhas yet. Lead by the strong-willed, studious Maddy and her friends, Barry and Kyle, the trio ...

A new clip from director Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman has gone online. We already knew from the trailers that this film has a very different tone than that other Snow White film that opened this year, Mirror Mirror, and this clip only reinforces the "dark and gritty" aspect of the film. Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman is being told asked by Charlize Theron’s Queen to hunt down that pesky Snow White, but this scene could seamlessly be dropped into an episode of Game of Thrones without seeming out of place. Sanders has crafted a gritty fantasy take on the classic tale, but there’s also an air of the mystic or magical the permeates throughout. I’m a big fan of what we’ve seen so far, and I’m eager to see an action/adventure film that has an intriguing and different visual style that stands out amongst the other summer fare.

Hit the jump to watch the clip. The film also stars Kristen Stewart, Sam Claflin, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Ian McShane. Snow White and the Huntsman opens on June 1st.

The prestigious Cannes Film Festival kicks off next week, and we’re starting to see some promotional materials from a few of the films that will premiere at the fest. We’ve already seen a stellar trailer for the prohibition-set crime drama Lawless and a fantastic clip from director Andrew Dominik’s (The Assassination of Jesse James) Killing Them Softly. Now a few clips have surfaced for two Cannes films (both set in the South) that feature Matthew McConaughey. The first is director Lee Daniels’ (Precious) adaptation of The Paperboy, which features McConaughey and Zac Efron playing a pair of brothers who team-up to investigate the potential wrongful conviction of a death-row inmate (John Cusack).

We also have two clips from director Jeff Nichols’ (Take Shelter) deep South drama Mud, which finds McConaughey playing a fugitive hiding out on an island in Mississippi who, with the help of two young boys, tries to escape and reunite with his lost love (Reese Witherspoon). Hit the jump to check out the clips.

The first clip from The Paperboy is a brief prison meeting between McConaughey and Cusack, but I’m incredibly encouraged by the ensemble that Daniels has put together. Based on this batch of images, Nicole Kidman looks to be inhabiting quite the character. This clip comes courtesy of Ropes of Silicon (via The Playlist):

Here’s the synopsis for Pete Dexter’s novel, The Paperboy:

We're happy to bring you an exclusive clip from the voyeuristic thriller, 388 Arletta Avenue, from writer/director Randall Cole (Real Time) and Tribeca Film. Starring Nick Stahl (Sin City), Mia Kirshner (The L Word) and Devon Sawa (Final Destination), 388 Arletta Avenue centers on a young couple who find themselves the subject of an unnerving and mysterious stalker. When Amy (Kirshner) mysteriously disappears, James (Stahl) must go to great lengths to find her, even if it means digging up the past or making new enemies in the present. Executive produced by writer/director Vincenzo Natali (Splice, Cube), 388 Arletta Avenue will be available on nationwide On Demand starting May 15th and with limited midnight theatrical releases starting May 18th. Hit the jump to check out the exclusive clip along with the poster from the film.

Here's a setup of the exclusive clip from 388 Arletta Avenue:
James and Amy live a quiet life in their suburban home on Arletta Avenue – but someone is watching them. With concealed cameras capturing every angle of their world, a faceless voyeur begins to manipulate the couple. When Amy suddenly disappears without a trace, James becomes desperate enough to dig up old skeletons from his past, and perhaps even make some new ones.

The first clip from Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly has gone online. The film (formerly titled Cogan's Trade) stars Brad Pitt as a mob enforcer who’s tasked with investigating the robbery of a high-stakes poker game. The terrific cast also includes Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins, Richard Jenkins, Ben Mendelsohn, Scoot McNairy, Bella Heathcote, and Sam Shepard. The clip shows Shepard's character roughing up Liotta, and it gives an indication of the tone Dominik's trying to strike. There's some clever camerawork culminating in a bit of dark comedy, and I'm curious to see if the rest of the film has the same attitude.

Hit the jump to check out the clip, and click here to check out some images from the movie. Killing Them Softly will premiere at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, and hit theaters stateside on September 21st.

Samuel L. Jackson is currently flaunting his bad ass skills as Nick Fury in the enormously successful The Avengers, but the actor will soon be playing another kind of hero in the dramatic thriller The Samaritan. We’re happy to debut an exclusive clip from the film that features Jackson saving a young woman from an abuser in true heroic badass fashion. In the film, Jackson plays a paroled con man who wants to build a new life, but gets sucked back into the con game by his ex-partner’s scheming son. The clip certainly makes Jackson’s character intriguing, and hopefully the crux of the film is simply "Samuel L. Jackson being awesome."

Hit the jump to watch the clip. The film also stars Ruth Negga, Luke Kirby, and Tom Wilkinson. The Samaritan is currently available on VOD and Digital outlets (iTunes, SundanceNOW, Amazon Streaming, XBOX Zune) and opens in theaters on May 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Samaritan:
After twenty‐five years in prison, Foley (Samuel L. Jackson) is finished with the grifter’s life. When he meets an elusive young woman named Iris (Ruth Negga), the possibility of a new start looks real. But his past is proving to be a stubborn companion: Ethan (Luke Kirby), the son of his former partner, has an ingenious plan and he wants Foley in. The harder Foley tries to escape his past, the tighter he is ensnared in Ethan’s web of secrets, until it becomes all too clear to Foley that some ...

Warner Bros. has set up two Facebook sites to promote Jay Roach's upcoming comedy The Campaign. Will Ferrell plays politician Cam Brady, who is squaring off his political rival, Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis). Each candidate now has a Facebook site along with campaign ads that provide the first clips from the movie. Sadly, these glimpses are pretty disappointing. In a year where we've seen staggering stupidity from Republican presidential candidates, The Campaign seems to traffic more in malapropisms and predictable political sparring. Hopefully, future glimpses of the film will feature better jokes.

Hit the jump to check out the campaign ads. The film also stars Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Brian Cox, John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd. The Campaign opens August 10th.

Here's the official synopsis for The Campaign:

Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors' support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family's political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about. As Election Day closes in, the two are locked in a dead heat, with insults quickly escalating to injury until all they care ...

We’ve been provided with five clips and 14 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from director Barry Sonnenfeld’s upcoming sequel Men in Black 3. The film finds Will Smith traveling back in time to save a young Agent K (played by Josh Brolin) from being killed, thus erasing his existence in our present. We recently shared over 40 images from the pic which showcase makeup artist Rick Baker’s incredible alien creations, and I’m looking forward to seeing much more of them onscreen.

Hit the jump to watch the clips and behind-the-scenes footage. The film also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Jermaine Clement, Alice Eve, Nicole Scherzinger, Bill Hader, and Emma Thompson. Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25th.

In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

The first trailers for David Cronenberg's adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel Cosmopolis have been delightfully intense. The movie looks like a return to the strange and surreal for Cronenberg, and a huge departure for star Robert Pattinson. For those unfamiliar with the film, Pattinson plays a successful banker whose entire life unravels over the course of a single day. In advance of the film's debut at the Cannes Film Festival, the first clip has gone online. It's as bizarre as the trailers have led us to believe, and the dialogue definitely seems to have the odd, detached style of DeLillo's writing. I'm now even more anxious to see how Cannes reacts to the picture.

Hit the jump to check out the clip. The film also stars Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric. The 2012 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 16 – 25th. [Update: We have added a new trailer and two more clips.]

The viral campaign for Prometheus continues to dole out great material. I don't know how they'll top the ad for the David 8 (Michael Fassbender), but today's new release is still worth your time. The site Blogbusters received an "audio puzzle", and the solution was playing the audio backwards. And when you play the audio backwards, you get a chilling audio clip from the movie. We've already heard the "Get it off! Get it off!" part in the trailers, but there's a full minute of terror packed into this thing. This may be even more effective than if they had provided the visuals as well.

Hit the jump to listen to the clip. The film also stars Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Charlize Theron. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

The first two clips from director Barry Sonnefeld’s Men in Black 3 have gone online. Both clips are heavy on the action and light on the dialogue, but one of them gives us a look at those strange single-wheel vehicles in motion. When we first caught a glimpse of the vehicle, I was instantly reminded of this South Park episode. Now that we’ve seen them in action, well, they still look like that God-forsaken machine. The other clip highlights a short conversation between Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones before they get to blastin' aliens. Nevertheless, I’m mainly excited about three things for Men in Black 3: Josh Brolin’s spot-on Tommy Lee Jones impression, Rick Baker’s incredible alien make-up, and Bill Hader. If you missed them, be sure to check out over 40 images from the film that include some fantastic looks at Baker’s aliens, as well as Steve's wide-ranging interview with Sonnenfeld.

The Avengers opens in only three days, but if you need yet another clip, a new one has gone online. However, this clip has some welcome commentary from writer-director Joss Whedon talking about the fight scene between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). As Whedon breaks down the scene, he makes the good point about how each character wants something different, neither is completely in the wrong, "and that makes it more than a fight. It makes it a conflict." It's a fun scene and it's definitely more than simple "who would win in a fight" pandering.
