A new Between Two Ferns is always cause for celebration, and this latest installment is among the best. It begins like most Between Two Ferns: Zach Galifianakis makes deadpan insults towards his guest (in this case James Franco), but then it turns into the music video for the new Lonely Island single, “Spring Break Anthem”, which is appropriately in the style of Spring Breakers but also supports gay marriage. And because The Lonely Island–which is comprised of Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg–likes to embrace the random, Edward Norton co-stars in this excellent sketch/music video.

Though director J.J. Abrams is undoubtedly deep in development on the very highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII, we still have yet to hear any official word about the film’s plot or its characters. Rumors have swirled that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford will be reprising their roles in the sequel, and the actors have hinted at, confirmed, denied, and walked back their involvement in the follow-up numerous times. Understandably there are some potentially very lucrative contracts to be drawn up with the trio should they sign on, and it sounds like they’re currently in some stage of negotiations for their return but can’t really confirm as much until the terms are settled.
The notoriously prickly Ford has been lambasted with Star Wars questions recently while on the press tour for 42, and he stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to promote the film. During his appearance, he took part in a pretty funny bit in which he agreed to answer questions from audience members only if they didn’t ask about Star Wars. As one can imagine, things didn’t exactly go as planned. Hit the jump to watch Ford be a surprisingly good sport.

In addition to giving a moving response to the Boston Marathon tragedy, Patton Oswalt has been using his status as Lord High Geek to star in some amazing comedy videos this week. The first is a bit from College Humor where he plays the Penguin in the site’s ongoing mockery of Batman, “Badman”. In the sketch, Batman fails to understand the difference between death and being asleep.
The other video is a deleted scene from Parks and Recreation where he plays a citizen doing a filibuster by creating possibly the nerdiest fan-fiction crossover ever between Star Wars: Episode VII and The Avengers 2 while also bringing in the rest of the Marvel Universe, licensing rights be damned. Eventually it just becomes geeky white noise where I stopped following the plot and just heard bits like “Lando Calrissian, Princess Leia, Han Solo love triangle”, “Robot Chewbacca”, and “Time Ribbon”. I imagine that Oswalt wrote/riffed the uncut 8-minute scene, but since Parks has such amazing writers, I could believe they had input as well. Hit the jump for comic greatness.

This is one of the toughest Academy Awards in recent memory when it comes to predictions. Usually, prediction ballots live or die based on the shorts section coupled with a few surprises. But a number of major categories are up for grabs this year including Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. It looks like Argo is the favorite to nab Best Picture, but even some prognosticators are sticking with Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook. So who can we turn to when it comes to making an accurate prediction? Puppies, of course. On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, five puppies had the option of nine bowls of kibble, each labeled with a different Best Picture nominee. It’s a highly scientific method of predicting the winner, and I wish that the puppies could vote. They’d probably do a better job than this moron of an Academy voter.

Yesterday, we showed you Part 1 of Zach Galifianakis‘ Between Two Ferns – Oscar Edition. Today, Part 2 has gone online and features his interviews with Jessica Cheststain (0 Dark 30), Sally Field (Linkin Park), and Brad Lee Cooper (Silver Lining Cookbook). Between the two parts, I enjoyed this one more because Galifianakis gets a little more time to play off his guest, especially his Hangover co-star Cooper. There’s also a special surprise by a certain Lewis.

It’s been about ten months since the last episode of Funny or Die series Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, but I guess to make up for the delay, they’re breaking out all the stars. In the first of a two-part “Oscar Edition”, the show’s guests include Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), Naomi Watts (The Impossible), Christ of Waltz (Django Unchained), Anne Halfway (French Movie), and Amys Adams (The Master). Watching these brief interviews, I wish they were expanded out into full segments, but I’ll take as much of Between Two Ferns as I can get.

When you watch a Judd Apatow film like This Is 40, you expect a certain level of comedy to come from improv. In the case of Apatow’s most recent comedy, the blooper reel happens to be funnier than most of the scenes in the movie itself. Featuring outtakes from Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Jason Segel, Megan Fox and more, the nearly four-minute laugher track is presumably but a sampling of all the additional footage shot for This is 40. Anne Hathaway and Samuel L. Jackson are in a competition of sorts since they both have movies coming out on Christmas Day—Les Miserables and Django Unchained, respectively. In a new Funny or Die video, the two actors decide to have a straight-up competition with a “Sad Off” in order to decide whose movie is more depressing. Having seen both films, Les Miserables is easily more depressing and Django Unchained is a borderline comedy (there’s one scene that could have been in Blazing Saddles). But really, their war of words boils down to which is worse: slavery or prostitution. Despite the dark subject matter, the sketch is pretty damn hilarious, especially since Jackson builds the best gingerbread house ever.

“You’ve never heard of the Millennium Falcon? It’s the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs!” Star Wars fans will recognize the floating hunk of junk above as Han Solo’s notoriously fickle freighter, but an ambitious group of builders are out to bring a full-scale version to life. It’s likely going to take quite a few years to get this project off the ground (so to speak) and it will unfortunately never fly. But the builders have a plan to turn the effort into a working summer camp of sorts for students to learn welding, architecture, electronics and so on. Perhaps by the time the new Star Wars sequels have run their course, the Millennium Falcon will be open and ready to smuggle visitors to fantasy land. Hit the jump to watch a video that shows the work in progress.

A little over a year ago, Don Cheadle took on the role of Captain Planet in a hilariously ridiculous Funny or Die video. The spoof came hot on the heels of the news that a live-action adaptation of the Captain Planet animated series was in the works, and skillfully pointed out how horribly wrong that idea can go. Cheadle has once again donned the tights for a sequel Captain Planet video, but this time the character has grown into an environmentally conscious dictator with a penchant for turning everyone into trees. I actually think this one’s even funnier than the first video, and it features a nice return cameo from Efren Ramirez as the last remaining Planeteer.

The words “Thanksgiving” and “family” are essentially synonymous, and yet it’s the family part that usually makes Turkey Day a disaster. Whether it’s arguing politics with extended family, a dish being ruined right before dinner, or offensive/racist comments from grandparents, more often than not something goes a tad awry. Larry David is all to familiar with Thanksgiving squabbles, and he’s put together an amusing animated short called Larry David’s Thanksgiving Special in which he tells a warm-hearted funny story about celebrating Thanksgiving in Brooklyn as a child.

With only five days left until the Presidential Election, Idiocracy‘s President Dwayne Elizando Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho (Terry Crews) has traveled back in time to give his thoughts on the election, the economy, the Middle East (Mexico and Canada should watch out), jobs, and the “outgo tax” (the constipated shall live like kings). If you’re worried this won’t have the flavor of Idiocracy, Mike Judge wrote and directed all these shorts. Also, for those who took issue with Joss Whedon‘s zombie apocalypse warning, these Camacho shorts are decidedly apolitical.

As Election Day fast approaches, we’re being inundated with political ads. But who can you trust? Who will give us the straight truth on where our country might be headed based on who is elected President? Joss Whedon. Whedon knows what will happen if Mitt Romney is elected to run this country, and if you want a full-on zombie apocalypse, Mitt is your guy. But as Whedon reminds us, we have to be prepared for dissolved social programs, curtailed social freedoms like gay marriage and women’s right to choose, and poor people taking on even more of a financial burden while the avarice of a wealthy few goes unchecked. This will inevitably lead to a zombie apocalypse, and while we don’t know if we’re getting fast or slow zombies, one thing is for certain: we’ll need to stock up on canned goods and learn parkour.
Hit the jump for Whedon’s very important message, and remember to vote on November 6th (preferably for the candidate who won’t bring on the zombie apocalypse).
