With Alcatraz and Person of Interest both alive and kicking on Fox and CBS currently, it’s been a decent year for Bad Robot. Now the company already has its sights set on next season with Jon Favreau directing his Revolution pilot for NBC, a potential series about a group of people trying to survive “in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.” Now the pilot has at least one leading man as Vulture has learned that Breaking Bad villain Giancarlo Esposito has been cast. He’ll play a character named Lieutenant Neville, a southern gentleman and steely military man with a secret. Details on the rest of the pilot are slim but stay tuned as this project develops for more information.
Details on AnnaSophia Robb landing The Carrie Diaries on The CW after the jump.
Sarah Jessica Parker will forever be known as a horse Carrie Bradshaw, but now a younger actress is going to fill the characters’ many high-heeled shoes. THR has word that AnnaSophia Robb (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Soul Surfer) has landed the lead role in the network pilot for The Carrie Diaries, a Sex and the City prequel series set up at The CW and based on Candace Bushnell’s novel of the same name. The book follows Bradshaw in the 80’s as she has her first experiences with love and sex, not to mention having some lasting friendships and family ties as she explores the jungles that are Manhattan and high school. Chuck and Gossip Girl producers from Fake Empire (including Josh Schwartz of Chuck fame) are behind the series as executive producers along with Sex and the City writer/producer Amy B. Harris who is not only adapting the book, but acting as showrunner as well. Youth in Revolt and Cedar Rapids director Miguel Arteta will direct the pilot, and since he’s never really tackled anything like this before, it’ll be interesting to see how it lives up to Sex and the City and whether fans want to see young Carrie Bradshaw in action.
