While the summer movie season always comes with its slew of big blockbusters—some good, some bad, few memorable—anticipation is very high for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. This is the rare franchise that essentially reinvents itself with every movie, as star/producer Tom Cruise offers the director the chance to make whatever kind of Mission: Impossible film he or she wants. Ghost Protocol was the highest grossing (and possibly best) entry in the series yet, and for Mission: Impossible 5 Cruise has enlisted his Jack Reacher writer/director Christopher McQuarrie to put his own spin on the spy thriller.
A new trailer is coming tomorrow that will further illuminate the pic, but today Paramount has issued six new character posters that introduce the lineup. They include familiar faces Cruise, Ving Rhames, and Jeremy Renner, as well as franchise newbies Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson, and Sean Harris as the picture’s villain (no Simon Pegg poster, unfortunately) [Update: A Pegg poster has been unveiled. All is not lost!]. I thought the first teaser trailer was terrific, so I can’t wait to see what tomorrow’s theatrical trailer gives us.
Check out the character posters below, via Paramount, and check back here on Thursday for the new trailer. The film opens in theaters on July 31st.
Here’s the official logline for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation:
Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
