The long-awaited debut of The Martian is nigh, and 20th Century Fox is serving up some fun in-world viral promotion to tease the film’s arrival. No doubt, actor fitness training is some serious business, but astronaut training? Now, that’s next level. The new viral video details exactly how intense that training is.
Based off of Andy Weir‘s best-selling novel of the same name, Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi film follows Matt Damon as Mark Wattney, an astronaut stranded alone on mars in the aftermath of a disastrous evacuation. With only the remaining supplies, his scientific genius and a good sense of humor to subsist on, Wattney must find a “science the shit out of this” to survive on the red planet and find a way home. The movie also stars Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover. Check out Damon’s astronaut training video below.
The Martian will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this month before arriving in theaters nationwide on October 2nd.
Here’s the official synopsis.
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel.
