Edge of Tomorrow 2 is officially one big step closer to becoming a reality. Deadline released a report this morning saying Christopher McQuarrie was attached to direct Edge of Tomorrow 2 but then, McQuarrie himself took to Twitter debunking the report saying he is NOT directing, Doug Liman is; elaborating that there is no Edge of Tomorrow without Doug. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are back with Race scribes Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse tapped to pen the script. The Doug Liman-directed 2014 sci-fi film was a hit with critics but didn’t quite catch on at the box office. But that changed as the word of mouth spread like wild fire, with Blu-ray sales and rentals giving the movie a chunk of money later down the line, enough to warrant a sequel. No release date has been set.
Now that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theatres and the DC Extended Universe officially launched, many rumors and official reports have come out of Warner Bros stating the launch didn’t go exactly as planned. Zack Snyder’s superhero epic was critically panned and didn’t fare too well with the box office as well. Fans of DC are now asking what it means for DC’s next entry from the Extended Universe, Suicide Squad. Recently, a report from Birth Movies Death stated that Suicide Squad was headed back to the set for some reshoots that would add “levity” to the movie as a direct answer to Batman v Superman’s dour tone. But in an interview with Captain Boomerang himself, Jai Courtney, that’s apparently not the case. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight about the rumored reshoots and lack of humor in the movie, Courtney said he thinks there’s plenty of humor in it and they are going back to shoot some additional action stuff.

Kingsman and young Han Solo hopeful Taron Egerton took to Twitter yesterday revealing the first poster for the upcoming Kingsman sequel – The Golden Circle. The follow up will see original director Matthew Vaughn returning to direct with a story that sees Egerton’s young spy Eggsy now a full fledged Kingsman traveling to America to meet up with the Kingsman’s American counterparts, The Statesmen, led by Halle Berry’s character. The two teams will then have to team up to deal with Julianne Moore’s formidable villain named Poppy. And while Colin Firth’s character wasn’t intended to return for the sequel for obvious reasons – spoiler alert – this new poster does tease his return. Fans will have to wait and see when Kingsman: The Golden Circle comes to theatres June 17, 2017.
Yesterday 20th Century Fox released a slew of new character posters from their upcoming X-Men movie – X-Men Apocalypse. Picking up 10 years after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the 1983-set film finds the X-Men uniting after the arrival of the first mutant, Apocalypse played by Oscar Isaac. As they did last week with their Four Horsemen led posters, Fox now shows us each mutant from the X-Men team who will lead the fight against Apocalypse and his Horsemen. X-Men: Apocalypse comes to theatres this May 27th.
Universal has unveiled a series of new character posters from the video game adaptation of Warcraft. Co-writer and director Duncan Jones has realized the World of Warcraft universe hopefully making a movie that will please the fans of the game in which it is based, targeting a similar box office as Lord of the Rings. The movie tells the story of the peaceful realm of Azeroth that stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. The new posters promise an epic premise that have fans of the game primed for a good time in theatres. Warcraft hits theatres this June 10th.
Universal Pictures has released a new, not so safe for work red-band trailer for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. The creative team behind the original are all back this time, which finds Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne’s characters enlisting the help of original party boy, Zac Effron, to battle a sorority so they can sell their home. The film also stars Chloe Moretz, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, Dave Franco, and Lisa Kudrow. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising opens in theaters on May 20th.
BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS
Now it’s time for Box Office Predictions brought to you by our friends at AMC Theatres. This is the part of the show where we make our predictions on what movies are opening this weekend and in what order they will top the weekend’s box office.
Brevin Campbell writes:
Why does every one movie need an opening credit scene and a ending credits. Can’t we just have one or the other. I sometimes find it annoying. There are a few films that can do it well like Batman v Superman, but most like Focus, Hateful Eight, and 50 Days of Summary make it annoying.
Josh Oscar writes:
Hey Collider Crew! I’ve been a huge fan since the AMC days.
My question is now that Suicide Squad is the next major DC movie hitting theaters do you think it is possible we see the death of Robin in Suicide Squad? We know for a fact this will be the first movie in the newly established DCU with Batman and Joker together and it can be safe to assume this is before the events of BvS because of Batman’s emotional state in BvS. The timelines could definitely line up and it would definitely be a nice set up into another Joker/Batman conflict in the more than likely upcoming solo movie in 2018. Thank you guys and keep it sweaty!
