CBS’s Fall 2012 Schedule: TWO AND A HALF MEN Moves to Thursday, THE MENTALIST Shifted to Sunday; Sherlock Holmes Series ELEMENTARY Set for Thursday

The upfronts are nearing an end, and we’ve already seen the new schedules from NBC, Fox, and ABC.  Now it’s CBS’s turn.  The readers of this site may not exactly be CBS’s target demo—though I’m still watching and enjoying How I Met Your Mother—but The Eye is hoping to change that with a few promising new series slated for this fall.  Shifts for returning series include moving the Ashton Kutcher-enhanced Two and a Half Men to Thursdays, while The Mentalist (which is probably your parents’ favorite show) will now air on Sunday.  Also, the young-skewing comedy 2 Broke Girls has been pushed back to the prime 9pm slot on Mondays after doing well at 8:30.  Moreover, I’m now aware that a show unironically called Crimetime Saturday exists.

As far as new series go, I’m really only keeping my eye on Elementary at this point.  I didn’t really find the need for a new Sherlock Holmes series given that we already have the beyond excellent Sherlock (and, to a lesser extent, House), but I’m willing to check out this new drama (starring Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson) to see what they’ve come up with.  Hit the jump to check out CBS’s schedule.

Nina Tassler (President of CBS Entertainment) Talks Creative Development of PERSON OF INTEREST Season 2, 2 BROKE GIRLS, and THE GOOD WIFE

As part of the network’s TCA Press Tour presentation, President of CBS Entertainment, Nina Tassler, took some time to talk about how they feel about the performance of their freshman drama Person of Interest, as well as their freshman comedy 2 Broke Girls, how both of those shows are developing creatively, and the tweaks that have been made. Although a decision has not yet been made about next Fall, they are happy with where things are headed with both shows. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

2012 Art Directors Guild Award Nominees Include HUGO, HARRY POTTER, DRIVE, and GAME OF THRONES

I like to see the guild awards, because the specificity allows for nominees that you won’t see on more general lists.  The Art Directors Guild is especially interesting because they separate the films into three categories: period, fantasy, and contemporary.  The 15 nominees highlight everything from Oscar favorites Hugo and The Artist, to crowd-pleasers Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and Captain America, to poorly received films like Cowboys & Aliens and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  There’s a similar contrast in the TV nominees between the classy HBO programs you’d expect (Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and Mildred Pierce) and the critical punching bags American Horror Story and The Playboy Club.  The full list of nominees is after the break.

CBS Gives 2 BROKE GIRLS a Full Season Order

Hot on the heels of Fox picking up New Girl and NBC ordering full seasons of Whitney and Up All Night, now CBS is chiming in with their first vote of confidence with a full season order for 2 Broke Girls, the comedy series starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behr. The two actresses play young, financially strapped waitresses working in New York and getting into adventures. Hijinks usually ensue. Ironically enough, this show was also co-created by comedian Whitney Cummings (star and creator of Whitney), but it sounds like this show may not be painfully mediocre (though I haven’t yet seen it for myself). Either way, early fans of the show should be glad to have the series sticking around between How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men on Mondays.

Kat Dennings Talks 2 BROKE GIRLS, RENEE and the THOR Sequel

The new comedy series 2 Broke Girls, premiering on September 19^th, is about two young women who waitress at a greasy spoon diner and strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business, if they can ever raise enough cash. Sassy and streetwise, Max Black (Kat Dennings) works two jobs just to get by, while uptown trust fund princess Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs) is having such a run of bad luck that she finds herself picking up shifts at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers that she must cover for, but she’s surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style, and the two girls from entirely different worlds become friends.

During a recent interview, actress Kat Dennings talked about what led her to make a weekly series commitment, that she loves how real her character is, how lucky they are to have such strong comedic forces behind the show, and how being in a business as risky as acting had often led her to wonder where her next paycheck was coming from. She also talked about playing a bi-polar girl in the indie drama Renee, and how her TV contract will allow for her to go do the sequel, if she ends up in Thor 2. CBS Release Featurettes for New Series Including PERSON OF INTEREST and More

Earlier today we got the first images and official series synopses for the new CBS series, and now the network has released the full length trailers for each show. After the jump you’ll find previews for J.J. Abrams’ new series Person of Interest (which I can’t wait to see), Unforgettable starring Poppy Montgomery, A Gifted Man starring Patrick Wilson, 2 Broke Girls starring Kat Dennings, and How to Be a Gentleman starring Kevin Dillon.

Person of Interest is by far my favorite out of the batch. After all, you can’t go wrong with Michael Emerson working on another J.J. Abrams series. Honestly, the rest of the series don’t really strike a chord with me, but CBS has never really been a network that’s had a lot of shows that have kept my interest with the exception of How I Met Your Mother. Maybe you’ll find something new you like after checking out the trailers after the jump.

CBS Announces 2011-2012 Schedule with First Images from PERSON OF INTEREST and More; Moves THE GOOD WIFE to Sunday, Renews HAWAII FIVE-0 and Others

Continuing our romp through upfronts this week, CBS has just unveiled their 2011-2012 schedule complete with their line-up of new series, and confirmed renewal of several of their running series. First up, series returning for another series will be The Big Bang Theory, Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, How I Met Your Mothers, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Rules of Engagement and Two and a Half Men (now with Ashton Kutcher). Some of these shows will be shuffled from their regular times, the most notable being The Good Wife moving to Sunday with Rules of Engagement taking a a timeslot on Saturday (which is just plain weird). That means that Chaos, the spin-off Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, The Defenders, Mad Love, Medium and $#*! My Dad Says will not be returning for another season. Surely fans of those series will be disappointed, but room must be made for the new series. Speaking of which, in addition to confirmation of their pick-up of J.J. Abrams’ new series Person of Interest (which I can’t wait to see), the network also snagged Unforgettable starring Poppy Montgomery, A Gifted Man starring Patrick Wilson, 2 Broke Girls starring Kat Dennings, and How to Be a Gentleman starring Kevin Dillon.
