We’ve got a few casting stories for you this evening. First up, Deadline reports that Academy Award-nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) is set to star in Fox Searchlight’s thriller Stoker. Directed by Chan-wook Park, the film centers on a young girl who encounters her mysterious uncle while mourning the death of her father. Weaver joins Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode and Mia Wasikowska. The script was penned by actor Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) under his pseudonym Ted Foulke, with Ridley and Tony Scott producing.
Additionally, Sarah Wright has landed the lead role in the R-rated comedy 21 and Over. Marking the directorial debut of The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film centers on two friends who take their buddy out for his 21st birthday, which naturally spirals into an all-night adventure. The friends must ensure that the birthday boy makes his all-important med school interview the next day. Wright joins Skylar Astin, Justin Chon and Miles Teller in the cast. Skylar Astin (Taking Woodstock) and Justin Chon (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) are in talks to join Miles Teller (Rabbit Hole) in the comedy 21 and Over. Variety provides the logline:
[21 and Over] follows two childhood friends who drag their straight-arrow buddy out to celebrate his 21st birthday the night before an all-important med school interview. As one beer leads to another, the evening spirals into an epic misadventure of debauchery and mayhem.
Chon will play the birthday boy; Teller and Astin will play the bad influences. Production on the directorial debut of The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore is scheduled for later this summer. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman of Mandeville Films are teaming with Relativity Media to produce.

We have a few bits of casting news to bring your way this evening. First up, Miles Teller (Rabbit Hole and the upcoming Footloose remake) has signed on to star in Relativity Media’s R-rated comedy 21 and Over. A couple of weeks ago, we reported that the up-and-coming actor was in talks to star in the film which will act as the directoral debut of The Hangover scribes Scott Moore and Jon Lucas. At that time, it was believed that Teller would play one of two childhood friends who get their straight-laced buddy trashed on his 21st birthday, a night that just so happens to be the day before his all important medical school interview. While the studio’s release doesn’t make specific mention, I suppose it could be safe to assume that Teller will in fact take on that role.
Next, Rosie Perez (White Men Can’t Jump) and Lance Reddick (Fringe) have signed on to director Daniel Barnz’s (Beastly) drama Still I Rise. The pair will join a cast that already includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Holly Hunter, Viola Davis, and Oscar Isaac. As for their respective roles, Variety reports that Perez will play a former teacher who now heads up a school board whereas Reddick will make a turn as Davis’ husband who also happens to be a teacher. Set in Pittsburgh, Still I Rise tells the story of two mothers (Gyllenhaal and Davis) who join forces to transform an inner-city public school. The film is currently eyeing a 2012 release.

Up and coming actor Miles Teller is in negotiations to star in Relativity’s upcoming R-rated comedy 21 and Over. The film, which is described as The Hangover and Animal House-esque in style, will mark the directorial debut of Hangover scribes Scott Moore and Jon Lucas (though exactly how much of their initial script for The Hangover ended up in the actual film is a matter of debate). THR reports that the story centers on two guys who get their friend trashed for his 21st birthday, and then must find his house in time for his med school interview the next morning during a night that “involves being hunted by a mean sorority and a juiced up male cheerleader.”
Teller is in talks to play one of the two friends, the wilder one of the bunch who instigates pretty much all the terrible things that end up happening. The actor recently starred in Rabbit Hole, and wrapped work on the Footloose remake as well as the Todd Phillips-produced top secret comedy Project X.

Being credited with writing the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all-time will seriously help your career. The Hangover screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore have added two more projects to their slate. First up, 24 Frames reports that the pair will write an untitled Christmas comedy for Blades of Glory filmmakers Will Speck and Josh Gordon. The Christmas comedy isn’t a new genre for Lucas and Moore as they previously penned Four Christmases.
Lucas and Moore will also write the college comedy 21 and Over, which, per Variety, is about “two college seniors who get their best friend drunk on his 21st birthday and then must race to get him to his medical school exam the next morning.” The duo also wrote the script for the upcoming body-switching comedy The Change-Up starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman (who stars in Speck and Gordon’s The Switch, which opens on Friday) and the indie heist comedy Flypaper starring Patrick Dempsey and Ashley Judd.
