The release date for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is so damn close, but we’ve still got nearly two weeks to go. It’s been a tough road of anticipation, but the finish line is in sight, folks. In the meantime, two new featurettes for the film have gone online to whet fans’ appetites. The first one, entitled “The Vision of Prometheus”, features Scott and some of the actors (including Guy Pearce) talking about the larger themes of the film, shooting in 3D, and more. The second featurette focuses on the character played by Logan Marshall-Green and gives us a bit of insight into what his role in the film will entail.
Hit the jump to check out the featurettes. The film also stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

A new clip from Prometheus has popped up online, but I’m not watching it. If I didn’t have to review the movie, I probably wouldn’t mind viewing it, but I’m keeping my pledge to go as radio-silent as possible (it’s tough to avoid TV spots). However, if you don’t care about going in cold, then you can check the clip out after the jump.
The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Logan Marshall-Green, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall, and Guy Pearce. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

A new featurette for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus has gone online. This clip focuses on the character played by Charlize Theron, and some tantalizing new footage is intercut with Theron talking about her character and getting to work with Scott. The actress explains that her character, Vickers, works for The Weyland Company and is basically overseeing the mission that the team aboard Prometheus is undertaking, but she’s also a bit of a hard ass. We really haven’t seen much of her character in the previous trailers, so this featurette gives us better idea of what to expect from Theron once the film hits theaters.

Just the other day, we posted excerpts from an interview with Damon Lindelof in which the screenwriter talked about many aspects of the upcoming sci-fi pic Prometheus. The Lost co-creator recently took to Twitter to take part in a Q&A regarding Prometheus, giving the fans an opportunity to beg for more information on the highly anticipated summer film. We’ve rounded up a few of the more interesting answers Lindelof gave, including hints at possible sequels to Prometheus, the fact that there may be more than one android onboard the spaceship, whether you should see the film in 3D or 2D, and a not-so-subtle homage to Lost.
Hit the jump for a recap of the Q&A, and if you missed this morning’s excellent new viral video featuring Noomi Rapace’s character contacting Peter Weyland, click here. Prometheus opens on June 8th.

The viral campaign for Prometheus continues to be absolutely spectacular, as a new video has surfaced online featuring Noomi Rapace’s character sending a video message to one Mr. Peter Weyland (played by Guy Pearce). She expresses that she knows where answers can be found to some of life’s biggest questions, and she pleads for Weyland to fund an expedition. All of this is augmented by a trippy computer program and some seriously eerie musical undertones. The viral campaign kicked off with a wonderfully chilling TED talk by Pearce, followed by a fantastic video featuring Michael Fassbender’s character. Scribe Damon Lindelof recently talked about how the idea of these viral videos came about and how they hint at the film’s relationship to Alien.
Hit the jump to watch the video. Director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is set to open on June 8th in 3D.

A new TV spot for Prometheus has gone online, and it’s apparently loaded with spoilers. Though I’d normally watch whatever clip or spot I’m reporting on, more than a few others have pointed out that this TV spot is apparently chock-full of spoilers, so I’d rather not ruin my moviegoing experience for the sake of viewing a piece of marketing. That said, if you’re unbothered by spoilers then by all means have at this new spot. We shared the first clip from the film yesterday, and it was a fairly benign scene from the film that simply showed the ship landing on the death alien planet.
Hit the jump to watch the spot. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and Guy Pearce. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 3rd.

The marketing train for director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus continues to roll on, and the first clip from the film has now surfaced online. By now I don’t really think any more convincing to see the pic is necessary, but for those of you interested in seeing more from Scott’s return to sci-fi, this clip should serve as a nice appetizer. Said clip features the ship Prometheus landing on the planet we’ve seen so much of already, with Logan Marshall-Green delivering a particularly eerie line. If you missed the interview with screenwriter Damon Lindelof in which he talked about how he turned an Alien prequel into Prometheus, trying not to reveal too much in trailers, the viral campaign and much more I highly suggest you check it out.
Hit the jump to watch the clip. The officially R-rated Prometheus also stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, and Guy Pearce. The film opens in 3D on June 8th.

In last week’s opening paragraph I welcomed the summer movie season into the fold by way of The Avengers. Earlier this week it dawned on me that another season is upon us as well. One that is nearly as costly as a summer blockbuster, albeit far less anticipated by yours truly: wedding season. Over the course of the next few months, I’ll attend no fewer than four ceremonies/receptions (not including my own) and, while I’ll be honored to have been invited to share a special moment with friends new and old, I’ll likely fall behind on my summer movie checklist. So, if you start noticing Top 5 opening paragraphs having less to do with film than what type of dessert was served at the reception, you have my most sincere advance apology.
Wedding disclaimers aside, awaiting you on the other side of this week’s Top 5 is James Cameron saying he only wants to make Avatar movies from now on, the first trailer for director Ruben Fleischer‘s Gangster Squad, Prometheus‘ R-rating, Matt’s letter of recommendation for Joss Whedon, and Dark Shadows coverage including interviews with Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, and Seth Grahame-Smith. A brief recap and link to each ensues after the jump.

Poster round-up! Here’s what we got:

I can safely say that Prometheus is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year. Beyond the fact that it marks a return to the sci-fi genre for director Ridley Scott and is related to his classic horror film Alien, it looks unbelievably cool. By now most people are familiar with the fact that the project originated as a direct prequel to Alien, but when Damon Lindelof was brought onboard to work on the screenplay it morphed into an original story that has ties to the Alien universe.
On the heels of 17 new images from the film yesterday, EW has now unveiled an extensive interview with Lindelof in which he addresses exactly how the film changed from a straight prequel to a separate story, how the excellent viral campaign came about, trying not to reveal too much in the marketing material, and he comments on how the title of the film is tied into the story’s themes. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

The latest issue of EW appears to have a big story on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, as the magazine has posted 17 new images from the film for our viewing pleasure. In addition to film stills and candid on-set shots, we also get a few “photoshoot”-style images, including Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace goofing around in their spacesuits (this is now my favorite Prometheus image ever). We recently learned that the film will officially be rated R (rejoice!), and a new featurette entitled “Origins” went online yesterday for those of you who are strangely still on the fence about this one.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, and Guy Pearce. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

A new featurette for Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus has gone online. While I don’t think the three-minute trailer laid out any major spoilers, I feel like we’re getting to the advertising-spoils-everything point, so I’m going dark on the movie. I can’t tell you what’s in this new featurette except that it’s entitled “Origins”.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. As we reported earlier this week, the film will be Rated-R for “sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language.” The movie stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Charlize Theron. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

It looks like the final nail has been hammered into Guillermo Del Toro‘s adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft‘s novella At the Mountains of Madness. Del Toro’s passion project came a hair away from getting the greenlight, but Universal pulled the plug over an unwillingness to pay a blockbuster price tag for an R-rated movie. Del Toro moved on to direct the monster movie Pacific Rim (due out July 12, 2013), but there was always the hope that maybe ATMOM might live again. But now the brilliant director has said Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus has taken the wind out of the project.
Hit the jump more.

There’s been heavy speculation over whether Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi horror film Prometheus would receive an R-rating. The blockbuster film carries a big price tag, and a PG-13 rating would probably mean a much higher take at the box office. However, when Steve spoke with 20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman, Rothman said the movie “will not be compromised either way,” and the studio would accept whatever the MPAA handed down.
According to a pre-sale ticket stub, the MPAA has handed down an R-rating for Prometheus. I’m not sure if that automatically makes the movie better, but I’m happy for the opportunity to see an ambitious summer blockbuster with an R-rating. The last R-rated sci-fi summer blockbuster I can recall is 2003′s The Matrix Reloaded. However, it’s late and I’m tired, so I might be forgetting another R-rated summer sci-fi movie released since then. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th. Hit the jump to check out the ticket and the film’s trailer.
Update: Steve here. 20th Century Fox has confirmed Prometheus will be rated R for “sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language.” Our original story after the jump.

At this year’s CinemaCon, I was able to land an exclusive interview with Tom Rothman (Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment). While we posted selected portions of the interview last week, after the jump you can read the entire conversation which covers a lot more than comic book movies. I love getting to speak with actors and directors, but if you really want to find out which projects are moving forward and why certain decisions were made, a studio head has all the answers.
During the wide-ranging conversation we talked about 48 frames per second, the shift towards higher quality films on Fox’s slate, Prometheus (and it’s rating), Daredevil, Fantastic Four, the Chronicle sequel, The Wolverine, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, a New Mutants movie, A Good Day to Die Hard (Die Hard 5), and more.
