In early August of last year, I got to visit the set of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh. I’ve waited a long time to write those words. At the time of the visit, the embargo/NDA was so severe that Warner Bros. wouldn’t allow us to tweet or post on Facebook that we were even flying into the city! But with Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film hitting theaters July 20th, the studio has been amping up their promotional campaign, and they’re finally allowing the sites that were on set to say we were there. In addition, they’ve provided us with four awesome billboards/posters that feature Bane, Catwoman, and Batman. Hit the jump to check them out and to learn more about my set visit.

Did you like those seven new images from The Dark Knight Rises we ran yesterday? Or how about those two TV spots? Maybe you even enjoyed that editorial I did about what the future holds for the Batman franchise? Even if you dug all that stuff, we know that TDKR Beast is never sated, so we have more images from Christopher Nolan‘s highly-anticipated superhero flick.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th, so I’d expect at least 227 more images between then and now.

For those of you who didn’t get your fill of Batman this week from a new theatrical poster and six character posters, seven new images from The Dark Knight Rises have now landed online. They give us a couple of really great close-up looks at Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, as well as new images of Christian Bale’s titular Dark Knight, Tom Hardy’s Bane, and Mr. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a new police officer character.
Hit the jump to check out the images. If you missed Matt’s editorial in which he offers his prediction of how The Dark Knight Rises ends and where the Batman franchise can go from there, click here to give it a read. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.

Now that The Avengers has delighted audiences and killed at the box office, it’s time to move onto the next big and shiny superhero toy: The Dark Knight Rises*. The film will be Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale‘s final go-round with the Batman, and audiences are excited to see how, to quote the poster, “the legend ends.” And after the legend has ended, how will Warner Bros. proceed with one of their most successful franchises?
Hit the jump for my prediction on how The Dark Knight Rises will end, how I’d like the Batman franchise to continue, and what I think Warner Bros. has in store for the caped crusader.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. released a very fire-y poster for The Dark Knight Rises. I speculated at the time that it might be the final poster for Christopher Nolan’s third and last Batpic, but I am now prepared to eat my hat as six new character posters for the film have gone online. Three of the posters ditch the oh-so-colorfulness of yesterday’s one-sheet in favor of rain and gloom; ah, there’s the Christopher Nolan we know and love. The other three posters involve snow, so hopefully three posters with a beach theme are on the way soon (I can only imagine Bane will be sporting a speedo). The posters are actually pretty cool, and they give us a nice look at Christian Bale’s Batman, Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, and Tom Hardy’s Bane. For some reason there appears to be a good amount of rocks/debris coming down with the rain, and no one remembered to bring an extra-strength umbrella. Classic Batman.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. The film also stars Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.

A new poster for The Dark Knight Rises has gone online, and it’s considerably more colorful than the previous posters we’ve seen for the concluding chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. Granted, the color comes from the fire of a burning and collapsing building, but it’s at least different enough from the black and white/greyscale of the previous one-sheets. I’m assuming this is the final poster for the film, but I could very well be wrong. I’m a bit more partial to the Batman/Bane standoff poster, but this “fire” poster isn’t terrible.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.

Since releasing the first images of Tom Hardy as Bane, fans of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises started asking, “What’s up with that mask?” A new article in Rolling Stone seems to have answered the question along with a point-by-point graphic detailing just why the muscle-bound madman needs a mask at all (and the answer provides a key plot point). On the other side of the spectrum is the also-masked vigilante known as Batman (Christian Bale), and in this new wanted poster supposedly released by Warner Bros., we see exactly what the Caped Crusader is accused of doing.
The Dark Knight Rises also stars Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman and Liam Neeson. Look for the bat to bow on July 20th. Hit the jump to check out the images.
Update: Thanks to a number of readers emails, we’ve been informed the Wanted Poster was part of the earlier viral marketing campaign.

Last week, we reported on a so-called “Tumbler Tour” that’s taking place throughout this summer. Warner Bros. is driving the Tumbler (aka the Batmobile) and the Bat-Pod (aka that thing Catwoman rides) across the country and stopping at a number of cities along the way in anticipation of the July 20th release of The Dark Knight Rises. The second stop on the Tumbler Tour just so happened to be my acceptable lovely hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a friend of mine sent over a number of images of said Batman vehicles.
We’ve got some pretty close-up looks of both modes of Mr. Wayne’s transportation, so hit the jump to take a look. If you plan on making the trek to San Diego this year for Comic-Con, you’ll be able to check out the Tumbler and Bat-Pod yourself as the tour is planning a stop at the Nerd Fest 2012.

After surviving the onslaught of The Avengers marketing machine over the last few months, we now have about two months of The Dark Knight Rises madness to look forward to. We brought you some new images recently and now a new TV spot for Christopher Nolan’s epic conclusion to his Batman trilogy has hit the airwaves. It’s a promo for the NBA playoffs (similar to this Brave spot for the NFL draft) and features cuts of the Caped Crusader between such current sports phenoms as Meadowlark Lemon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (they still play, right?).
The Dark Knight Rises, starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine, opens July 20th. Hit the jump to check out the commercial.

New images from The Dark Knight Rises have gone online. Don’t expect anything revelatory, but I’m curious to know what’s caused that look of shock on Bane’s face. Has Batman defeated part of Bane’s plan? Is Bane looking at the Batwing for the first time? Has Bane realized he just missed out on Taco Tuesdays? We’ll have to wait and find out.
Hit the jump to check out the images, click here to see overpriced TDKR merchandise, and click here to find out when the Bat-pod and Tumbler are coming to your city this summer. The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th.

If after watching The Dark Knight or Batman Begins for the umpteenth time you found yourself wondering, “I’d really like to cruise the streets of my town in that Bat-Pod and/or Tumbler,” you’re sorta in luck. In anticipation of this summer’s The Dark Knight Rises, the actual Tumbler and Bat-Pod from Christopher Nolan’s Batman films are heading to a city near you. Though you most likely won’t be able to get behind the wheel of said vehicles without encountering the wrath of The Dark Knight himself a heavyset security guard. The nationwide tour begins this Saturday, May 12th and will go through July 7th. Hit the jump to get a look at some images of the tumbler being loaded for transport, and to find out where these vehicles will be making stops. (Update: The Tumbler Tour website has added new dates and locations to their tour. Click the link for specifics.)

Now that the summer’s first giant superhero movie has burst into theaters, it’s time to take our short attention spans and turn them over to the remaining two superhero flicks: The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises. Audiences aren’t sure what to expect from The Amazing Spider-Man, but fans are excited out of their minds to see Christopher Nolan‘s final Batman movie. Although the movie is over two months away, Warner Bros. has already started rolling out merchandise. In December, we showed you a Bane shirt Warner Bros. had sent out as part of the film’s viral campaign. Now you can buy that shirt for the ridiculous price of $48 along with other overpriced geek couture. If you’re considering buying the wife-beater featuring Bane and pink lightning bolts, may I suggest burning your money instead? You won’t look as stupid, and you’ll be warmer.
Hit the jump to see some of the first merchandise for The Dark Knight Rises. The movie opens on July 20th.

With this weekend’s domestic release of some little flick called The Avengers, the summer movie season is officially off and running. Although it’s easy for the comic book fan in me to rank The Avengers, The Amazing-Spider Man, and The Dark Knight Rises as my top three most anticipated summer pics, I thought it might be a nice exercise to quickly list what else the Summer of 2012 is offering that will likely tickle my moviegoing fancy. That said, because absolutely no one asked my opinion, here are five of my other most anticipated summer films (listed in chronological order by release date): Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus, Steven Soderbergh‘s Magic Mike, Seth MacFarlane‘s feature debut Ted, Fernando Meirelles‘ 360, and John Hillcoat‘s Lawless. As always, I’d love to hear from you, the reader, about what you’re looking forward to seeing on the big screen in the coming months. By all means, use the comments section liberally.
In this week’s Top 5 you’ll find a ton of interviews, Matt’s review, and other ancillary bits for the aforementioned The Avengers, Steve’s coverage from his visit to the Istanbul set of Skyfall, the third trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, a new trailer, images, and posters for The Amazing Spider-Man, and the first full-length trailer for The Expendables 2. A quick recap and link to each ensues after the jump.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, which they are billing as “the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.” It reveals our best look yet at Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy), plus tons of destruction and mayhem. It’s amazing. Just get yourself after the jump already and watch it.
Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine also star. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20.

It’s been a while since The Dark Knight Rises viral campaign asked anything of the legions of Batman fans. The viral campaign for The Dark Knight set a high watermark in what a viral campaign could do, but Rises has been fairly quiet ever since fans were told where they could go to see the first six minutes of the movie in IMAX. But now the viral is back on, and it’s allowing fans to try and unmask the next trailer before it debuts with The Avengers this Friday.
Hit the jump for more. The film also stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th.
