I’ve been running cold on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but Fox has now released a new red-band trailer for the film, and I’m starting to warm up to the flick. While it looks like half of the movie will be speed-ramped, I can now make out the action on screen, and characters are actually talking to each other. I’m also surprised at how bloody this looks, and I’m starting to wonder if Fox will release two R-rated blockbusters this summer (the other is Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus). Keep in mind that director Timur Bekmambetov‘s previous film, Wanted, went out in the summer of 2008 with an R-rating and raked in $341 million worldwide, although having Angelina Jolie in your movie doesn’t hurt.
Hit the jump to check out the “Red-Band” (unrated would be a more accurate description) trailer. The film stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Anthony Mackie, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22nd.

Doing early press for the black and white, stop-motion animated 3D film Frankenweenie, due out on October 5th, questions for director Tim Burton naturally turned to what he might decide to focus on next. While we will post that portion of the interview on May 9th, I can say that the nearly 30 minutes of footage that we saw was as adorable, twisted and witty as you would expect, and I can’t wait to see the full-length feature.
When asked about whether or not he’s started to think about what his next film will be, Burton said that he’s going to take a break because he thinks it’s embarrassing that he has three movies coming out this year. He also talked about the fact that Seth Grahame-Smith is working on writing Beetlejuice 2, and that he might be interested in getting involved depending on what he thinks of the script, and that Big Eyes is in the works, but that you never know what will be ready to go next. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

A new featurette for director Timur Beckmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has gone online. Bits and pieces of new footage are interspersed with Beckmambetov, writer Seth Grahame-Smith, and producer Tim Burton talking about the film. Essentially they’re selling the movie as a valid entry in the superhero genre, with Burton going so far as to compare their Abraham Lincoln to Batman. I wasn’t a huge fan of Beckmambetov’s Wanted, and I’m still not convinced that Vampire Hunter won’t be a series of action sequences filled with so-earnest-it’s-cheesy dialogue. I’d love nothing more than to be pleasantly surprised, but I still feel like the film would’ve been a lot more fun if the premise had been played tongue-in-cheek.
Hit the jump to watch the featurette. The pic stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Anthony Mackie, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and opens in 3D on June 22nd.

We’ve got a few new posters to share with you this evening. Briefly:

Earlier this year, we here at Collider brought you our most anticipated films of the first quarter. 2012 has gotten off to a promising start with more than a few gems, and now it’s time to look to the next three months of the year. Matt, Adam, Brendan, and Dave have each picked their top five films for the next installment of our Most Anticipated series, providing a brief explanation for why these films are on our radar and what has us excited. Hit the jump to check out our picks, along with information on the cast and plot for each film.

At last weekend’s WonderCon, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter director Timur Bekmambetov, star Ben Walker and author/screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith showed off a new trailer and an extended section of a big action set piece that featured all the principal cast. If you missed Dave’s recap of the panel, click here. You can also watch the new trailer here. For those just hearing about the project, the film re-imagines our 16th President as a statesman by day and a vampire slayer by night.
Shortly before the panel, I got to sit down with Grahame-Smith. We talked about being at WonderCon, the collaboration between himself, Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov and 20th Century Fox on the project, how has the project changed along the way, and and what they learned from their friends and family screening. Shortly before the panel, I got to sit down with Bekmambetov for an extended interview. He talked about collaborating with Tim Burton and 20th Century Fox, the challenges of editing the film because of the 3D, and the runtime, tone and music. In addition, Bekmambetov talked about the status of Maggie and reveals he plans on stepping back for his next project to do something out of character because he feels he’s done “too many genre movies.” Hit the jump to watch.

Shortly before the panel, I got to sit down with Walker for an extended interview. We talked about his reaction to the footage he’s seen, what it was like to work with Bekmambetov, what kind of research he did to play Abraham Lincoln, how the 3D be used, and he talks about a particularly gory reshoot and his favorite action scene in the movie. In addition, with Walker getting ready to film Stephen Frears’ Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight, he revealed who he plays and how excited he is to work his Christopher Plummer. Hit the jump to watch.

In addition to showing off their footage (and a new trailer!) for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, 20th Century Fox also premiered some new footage for producer Tim Burton and director Timur Bekmambetov’s (Wanted) Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Part of the new footage was this recently released trailer (Mr. Lincoln, you had me at “gun-axe”). But they also showed an extended section of a big action set piece that featured all the principal cast, Bekmambetov’s signature action style and a helluva good fight. Unfortunately, Burton could not be present because he was gravely ill, but did check-in via satellite in a delightfully Burtonesque clip. Details after the jump.

A new trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has gone online. The film posits that one of our nation’s greatest Presidents spent his spare time slicing and dicing vampires. I was a bit surprised by the first trailer in that the whole “Abraham Lincoln kills vampires” thing is played super serious, so I went into this new trailer with a different mindset. We get a better sense of the story, but I’m still not entirely enthused by the film. The trailer excels when it shows off the scenes that highlight the epic scope, but the rest of the time it’s basically Lincoln spinning his axe around all fancy-like. Timur Bekmambatov directed the film, and I’m assuming that if you were a fan of his action pic Wanted, the style of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will be right up your alley.
Hit the jump to watch the new trailer, and check back for our full report on the film’s WonderCon panel later today. The film stars Benjamin Walker, Rufus Sewell, and Anthony Mackie. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22nd.

When the panels were announced for this year’s WonderCon, the 20th Century Fox presentation didn’t specify which films would be brought to the convention. At the time we speculated that Ridley Scott’s Prometheus would be featured, and earlier today we learned that Scott himself will be premiering the full trailer for the film on March 17th at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, not far from WonderCon. Now the convention has updated its info (thanks to reader Steve for the heads up) to confirm that Scott and screenwriter Damon Lindelof will be onhand to screen some exclusive footage.
In addition, the panel will include a presentation for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The filmmakers will screen “special footage” from the historic vampire-slaying pic. The info given doesn’t specify what filmmakers will be present, but I wouldn’t be surprised if director Timur Bekmambetov showed up. Hit the jump to read the full synopsis for “20th Century Fox: Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter…in 3D.” Be sure to check back here on March 17th for the new Prometheus trailer, and we’ll have a rundown from the WonderCon presentations as well. WonderCon 2012 runs from March 16 – March 18.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is selling itself as one of the most exciting genre films hitting this summer. To get people in the mood Fox hosted an event in Springfield, Illinois – the home of Lincoln’s tomb, and his library and museum. That evening director Timur Bekmambetov, writer Seth Grahame-Smith, producer Jim Lemley, and the film’s Abraham Lincoln himself Benjamin Walker were given a tour and hosted an event where they showed the film’s trailer, four film clips, and answered some questions. After the jump, check out video from Lincoln’s Tomb, the vault where some amazing historical artifacts are kept, and a number of images.

For Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, we were taken to Springfield, Illinois to talk to star Benjamin Walker, director Timur Bekmambetov, producer Jim Lemley and writer Seth Grahame-Smith. They showed us the film’s trailer, producer Tim Burton’s introduction, a behind the scenes featurette, and gave us a Q&A for over 30 minutes. Here’s a few of the things they talked about:

For Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’s trailer launch, 20th Century Fox brought out director Timur Bekmambetov and star Benjamin Walker to talk about the movie. But not just anywhere, they brought them to Springfield, Illinois – the home of Lincoln’s tomb and his library and museum. We got a chance to talk to the two about the film and about Lincoln in the museum, after having been shown the film’s teaser and a couple of clips. Check out our exclusive interview with the two after the jump. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens June 22.

I generally don’t like to check out extended clips of footage from films ahead of their release. Call me old fashioned but, similar to how I try and avoid cherry picking music singles before listening to the entire album, I like to think of records and movies as complete bodies of work. Of course, I say all of this only to preface breaking my own general rule. I implore you to watch the first 12 minutes of writer/director/actress Brit Marling’s Sound of My Voice. I did, I don’t regret a single moment of it, and now I can’t wait to check out the entire film as soon as possible.
All self-contradiction aside, in this week’s “Top 5″ installment you’ll find Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance interviews with talent like Nicolas Cage, Idris Elba, Johnny Whitworth, and directors Neveldine/Taylor, a recap of our 21 Jump Street set visit, trailers and a featurette for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Transformers 4 news, and Avengers, Star Wars, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation toy images from the 2012 Toy Fair. Check out a brief recap and link to each after the jump.
