Five new images have been released for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  I’m still waiting for someone to pop out and say, “Ha ha!  We’re just kidding.  This isn’t a real movie.  It’s an Asylum title that was made over the weekend and the cast was paid with promises of Blimpie subs.”  But for the moment, it’s being set up as a summer blockbuster with a goofy title.  I’m eager to get a look at this thing because right now it sounds like a gimmick, and these new photos don’t give much of an indication otherwise.

Hit the jump for the images along with some quotes on the movie from star Benjamin WalkerAbraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22nd.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Talks SMASHED, ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER and A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE MIND OF CHARLES SWAN III

Mary Elizabeth Winstead SMASHED and ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER interview slice sundance

One of the many films that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was director James Ponsoldt‘s Smashed.  Written by Susan Burke and James Ponsoldt, Smashed is about a young married couple – played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul – who are brought together by booze.  When Winstead’s character (Kate) decides to get sober, it creates its own set of problems.  While the film and subject matter could have easily drifted into a Lifetime movie of the week, what makes Smashed work is a career best performance by Winstead and fantastic work from the rest of the cast which includes Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, and Megan Mullally. For more on the film, here’s Matt’s review.

Shortly after seeing the film, I got to sit down with Winstead for an exclusive interview.  We talked about what it means to be a part of Sundance, how she got involved in Smashed and what it’s about, how she went about creating a three dimensional character, karaoke, working with director Timur Bekmambetov on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and who she plays, Roman Coppola‘s A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, and what she has coming up.  Hit the jump to watch.

New Poster and Behind-the-Scenes Video for ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER [Updated with 3 New Images]

A new poster and behind-the-scenes video have gone online for Timur Bekmambetov‘s adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  The film re-imagines the 16th president (played by Benjamin Walker) as a slayer of vamps after one of them killed his mother when he was a boy.  In the movie, Anthony Mackie plays Lincoln’s lifelong pal, William.  Mackie jokingly tells MTV his character’s relationship with Walker’s is like 48 Hours with Walker as the Nick Nolte character.  If he had been serious, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter would have shot to the top of my must-see list instead of languishing near the bottom of my “I’ll See It because It’s My Job to Do So”-list.  Bekmambetov also said, “I like it when my characters are likable.”  He then offered no explanation regarding any of the characters in Wanted.

After seeing the set video, I’m at least curious to see how Walker will play Lincoln, because right now he just looks like a guy who wants to sell some used cars over Presidents Day weekend.  Hit the jump to check out the set video along with a new poster.  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22nd.  [Update: We’ve added 3 new images after the jump.

First Images from MEN IN BLACK 3 and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

The first images from Men in Black 3 and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter have gone online.  As you can see in the Men in Black 3 image, Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and Agent J (Will Smith) have returned to mess up your Chinese restaurant dining experience.  As for Abraham Lincoln, you can see our 16th president (Benjamin Walker) trying to slay a vampire and missing.  I’m not sure why Fox chose to send out this image since the shot clearly works better in motion.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  Men in Black 3 opens May 25th and also stars Josh Brolin, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Johnny Knoxville, and Jemaine Clement.  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens June 22nd and also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Rufus Sewell.  Both movies are in 3D.

We’re getting two Abraham Lincoln movies next year.  One is from Steven Spielberg and focuses on the last four months of Lincoln’s life.  It’s based on Doris Kearns Goodwin‘s acclaimed non-fiction book Team of Rivals.  The other, directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), is about Lincoln fighting vampires because that’s how silly mash-ups work.  It’s based on the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith.  A lenticular poster has debuted for Bekmambetov’s movie.  Because the poster is lenticular, the scene will change from day to night as you pass by.  It lets the viewer know that Abraham Lincoln spent a lot of time sitting in his favorite chair with his trusty axe by his side.  Take that, Historical Accuracy.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Eric Christian Olsen Talk THE THING and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Eric Christian Olsen’s characters Kate and Adam couldn’t be more dissimilar. Whereas Winstead’s Kate responds to the threat of a shape-shifting alien by finding her voice and becoming the de-facto leader of the remnant survivors, Olsen’s Adam slowly withdraws from the action, refusing to acknowledge the severity of the situation. Their arcs are not that far removed from the Ripley/Weaver & Burke/Reiser Aliens mold (although Olsen isn’t quite as repulsive as Paul Reiser’s Carter Burke – to be fair: who could?). It was oddly fitting then that the two were paired up for The Thing press day interviews – each balancing the other. Altruism vs. Self-interest – all contained in one room.

In the following interview with Winstead and Olsen, She explicates on her character’s transformation from mild-mannered to hero and He discusses the liberties allowed in playing “a coward”. Winstead also calls me out for making the (admittedly) slightest of parallels between The Thing and her upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  Hit the jump to watch.

Anthony Mackie Talks REAL STEEL, THE GANGSTER SQUAD and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

In the robot boxing flick Real Steel, actor Anthony Mackie plays Finn, the charismatic host of the robot fights at The Crash Palace, an underground venue where folks go to make fast cash. Taking inspiration from Don King, Mackie jumped at the opportunity to play such a rambunctious and outlandish character, and even worked out because he knew he’d be sharing scenes with the film’s star, Hugh Jackman.

At the film’s press day, Anthony Mackie talked about how much fun he had working with Hugh Jackman, that he was initially intimidated by the huge robots because he was waiting for them to go crazy and kill everybody, that he feels this is one of the first times he’s seen a movie where the graphics are insane and the story is actually there to back it up, and that he hopes Finn will get the Don King hair, if he gets to return for a sequel. He also talked about always wanting to do something different with the roles that he chooses to do, why he was attracted to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and who he’s playing in The Gangster Squad. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Alan Tudyk Talks TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL, ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, SUBURGATORY, and Working With Joss Whedon

by Christina Radish    Posted: September 28th, 2011 at 9:08 am

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, available on Magnolia On-Demand and in select theaters starting September 30th, is a hilariously gory comedy about two lovable redneck best friends on vacation at their run-down mountain house, who are mistaken for murderous hillbillies by a group of preppy college kids that end up dying, one by one. While Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine) try to lend the students a hand, the misunderstanding grows and the body count gets uncontrollably higher and higher.

At the film’s press day, actor Alan Tudyk spoke with Collider for this exclusive interview about making sure he and first-time feature writer/director Eli Craig were on the same page with how to handle the film’s tone, how easy the friendship came between him and co-star Tyler Labine, and that hanging upside for the film was actually really painful. He also talked about how his Stephen Douglas in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is different from the actual historical figure and that the changes from the book were necessary to make the film more active, that he loves working with Joss Whedon (they did Firefly and Dollhouse together) because he’s daring and different and challenges him as an actor, why he was drawn to the new ABC comedy Suburgatory (premiering on September 28th), and what he enjoys about doing voice-over work, including the upcoming MTV series Good Vibes. Anthony Mackie Talks ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER and THE GANGSTER SQUAD

At this past weekend’s press junket for Real Steel, opening in theaters on October 7th, Collider got the opportunity to speak with Anthony Mackie, who plays Finn, the charismatic host of the robot fights at The Crash Palace. While we will post the portion of the interview about what drew him to the role and how much fun he had playing a character so different from him, close to the film’s release date, we did want to post what he had to say about two of his other high-profile projects – the recently wrapped Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and The Gangster Squad, currently shooting for director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland).

When talking about his role as Abraham Lincoln’s best friend, William H. Johnson, Anthony Mackie explained his belief in the re-contextualization of history to interest kids in wanting to learn more, even if that means adding vampires to the story to catch their attention. He also talked about playing Lieutenant Harris, a member of the Gangster Squad in the late 1940′s, who wanted to keep Mickey Cohen from bringing heroin into Compton. At Comic-Con, I had the great pleasure to sit down with Dominic Cooper one-on-one to talk about his upcoming film, The Devil’s Double. Although I haven’t seen the film myself, I have heard his portrayal is phenomenal. Because we were at Comic-Con, though, we started off talking about what he thinks about all of it and then jumped into the film. We really dug into his dueling roles as Latif Yahia and Uday Hussein and how it was shot. Along the way we also talked about his experience on Captain America: The First Avenger (he plays Howard Stark), the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and how it was to work with director Timur Bekmambetov. Filming on Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is underway. Fox has released a hi-res version of the image released earlier this week.  There’s also a set photo that shows Bekmambetov directing star Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln sans beard and sans vampire hunting.

First Look at ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

The first image from Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has gone online.  In case you couldn’t get the plot from the title, the movie is about America’s 16th President secret life as a vampire slayer.  Based off the book by Seth Grahame-Smith, the story re-imagines that Lincoln’s mother and grandfather were killed by a vampire and that the president’s resolve to end slavery was due in part to the “fact” that vampires were involved with the slave trade.  However, he also learns that there are good vampires and bad vampires and that he can’t simply just kill them all willy-nilly.

Hit the jump for the image and to learn how the production is devoted to historical accuracy in this incredibly silly story.  The film stars Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Refus Sewell.  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22, 2012.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER Set Photos

Part historical fiction, part zombie thriller, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will surely offer an interesting aesthetic blend on screen.  I’d very much like to see what director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and his crew have in store — for now this pair of set photos will have to do.  If nothing else, we see Dominic Cooper in costume as Henry Sturgess and what may be Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln.  No sign of vampires yet, but vampires do not show up in photographs, so…

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Robin McLeavy also star in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, scheduled for release on June 22, 2012.  See the set photos after the jump.

The MTV scripted comedy The Hard Times of RJ Berger, from co-creators/executive producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, returns for a funnier, more ambitious, raunchier and even more heartfelt second season. In Season 1, viewers got to see the anatomically gifted RJ Berger (Paul Iacono) chasing after the girl of his dreams (Amber Lancaster) and, now that he has her, Season 2 sees him facing various obstacles in keeping her. At the same time, RJ’s parents have romantic struggles of their own, when they announce to the teenager that they are separating. As with most high school experiences, life for RJ Berger turns out to not be everything he imagined it would be.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, Seth Grahame-Smith talked about paving the way for original programming at MTV, making the show bigger and better for Season 2, balancing the series with 50% heart and 50% fart, and their guest cameos with Paris Hilton, Weezer and Vinny from Jersey Shore.

Grahame-Smith also previewed his next novel, which he’s currently writing, talked about the possibility of he and Katzenberg directing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, adapted from his own best-selling novel, talked about the process of adapting his own novel for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which is now in production, writing dialogue specifically for Johnny Depp for the Dark Shadows script, which goes into production in May, collaborating with Tim Burton, and his goals for making Dark Shadows fun and funny.
