It’s been a little while since we had a porn star update, so here’s a new poster featuring Linda Lovelace. Technically, it’s Amanda Seyfried portraying Linda Lovelace in this new poster for the indie biopic, Lovelace. Splitting hairs. It’s not as provocative as you might expect, but I’m reserving some hope that, as the movie gets closer to release (unexpected pun!), the material gets more and more risque. If that wasn’t the plan, it’s something the Lovelace marketing team might want to consider.
Then again, it’s not all about the sex appeal, since a good portion of Lovelace deals with the abusive relationship between the porn star and her husband, Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard). You can take a look at previously released images, set photos and posters here. Lovelace also stars Sharon Stone, Adam Brody, Chloe Sevigny, Juno Temple, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Noth, Robert Patrick, and James Franco. Hit the jump to see the new poster.

I believe there is an uncanny valley in portraying the young and erudite. I want to see witty movies about the UHB, but only a select few—led by Woody Allen—can write the dialogue without it seeming so stilted. Whit Stillman is one of the masters. It’s not that the banter isn’t stiff, rather that is part of the point. And it helps when you have stars like Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, and Analeigh Tipton voicing the characters as Stillman does in his latest, Damsels in Distress. Gerwig, Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke, and Carrie MacLemore star as a group of coeds whose friendship is threatened by a series of romances, “including smooth Charlie (Brody), dreamboat Xavier (Hugo Becker), the mad frat-pack of Frank (Ryan Metcalf), and Thor (Billy Magnussen).” Damsels in Distress opens in limited release on April 6. The first trailer for the apocalyptic dramedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World has landed. The film stars Steve Carell as a man who sets out with a woman (Keira Knightley) to search for his high-school sweetheart during Earth’s final days. It’s a premise you’d expect from a big budget sci-fi pic or a zany road trip comedy, but the tone on display in this trailer is nothing short of fantastic. Director Lorene Scafaria has populated the flick with a brilliant ensemble, as we see Patton Oswalt, Rob Heubel, Connie Britton, Gillian Jacobs, Rob Corddry, and more pop up in this short trailer alone. There are genuinely funny moments, but an underlying sadness permeates throughout that hints at some strong character work as well. I love the way the apocalypse is tackled here and can’t wait to see more.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Adam Brody, Derek Luke, Melanie Lynskey, T.J. Miller, and Melinda Dillon. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World opens June 22nd.

I am an unabashed fan of The O.C., which is equivalent to being an Adam Brody supporter. His career never took off like we all expected after the Fox soap signed off the air 2007, but there’s still time for the 32-year-old actor to flourish. The next couple years promises a flurry of Brody, including Damsels in Distress, The Oranges, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and Lovelace. At least one of those ought to stick, but tonight we received word of two more starring vehicles for Brody: Some Girls and Welcome to the Jungle. Some Girls is a feature adaptation of the Neil LaBute play bout a successful writer who meets with five ex-girlfriends before his wedding. Welcome to the Jungle also features Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Kristen Schaal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme(!) as a group of co-workers who go on an office retreat and end up stranded on a tropical island. Hit the jump for more on each project.

Production on the Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace is currently underway, but the impressive cast continues to fill out. Amanda Seyfried stars as the titular Lovelace, the world’s first porn star, with Peter Sarsgaard onboard as her husband. Now, Variety reports that Adam Brody (The O.C.), Eric Roberts (Heroes), and Demi Moore are set to appear in the film. Brody will play Harry Reems, one of the stars of Deep Throat, while Moore is set to cameo as political activist Gloria Steinem. Steinem founded Ms. Magazine, which published an article entitled “The Real Linda Lovelace” that discussed Lovelace’s abusive relationship with her pornographer husband, whom she claimed coerced her into the erotic film industry.
Lovelace seems to become more intriguing by the day, as Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, Wes Bentley, Hank Azaria and more are set to star, with James Franco possibly appearing as Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Howl) are directing.

Atlas Independent is new to the filmmaking game, but they’re off to a good start with the supporting cast for their first feature Revenge for Jolly!. Brian Petsos stars as the owner of a dog who died under suspicious circumstances. He and his cousin “follow a series of clues in an attempt to track down the dog’s murderer, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.” Oscar Isaac plays the cousin; Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, Ryan Phillippe, Kristen Wiig, David Rasche, Kevin Corrigan, Garret Dillahunt, Bobby Moynihan, and Gillian Jacobs also star. That’s a cast I trust with this absurdist premise.
Director Chadd Harbold wrapped the sub-$10 million production in August. For more info on Revenge for Jolly! and Atlas Independent’s mission statement, read the full press release after the jump.

MTV is coming to Comic-Con, and today they announced what shows they’ll be bringing. Celebrating the triumphant return of Beavis and Butthead, Mike Judge will be on-hand for a panel focusing on the all new episodes with Johnny Knoxville acting as moderator. The cast and producers of Teen Wolf will appear for the new series’ panel, and Wes Craven will talk to the cast and producers of the new horror-comedy Death Valley.
In addition, there will be a panel for David Gordon Green’s (Pineapple Express) new animated series Good Vibes, with voice-cast members Adam Brody, Alan Tudyuk, Tony Hale, Debi Mazar and Jake Busey making an appearance alongside Green. Finally, a panel entitled “MTV Geek!” will feature Stan Lee revealing the story behind the new MTV Comics title The Seekers. The cast for the pre-apocalyptic rom-com Seeking a Friend for the End of the World has just kind of exploded. The film was already set to star Steve Carell as a man who is joined by a woman (Keira Knightley) to find his old high-school sweeheart before the world is destroyed by an asteroid. Yesterday, we learned that the talented Gillian Jacobs had joined the film and now we’ve received a press release announcing that a truckload of other great actors have signed on as well. Check out this line-up: Connie Britton, Patton Oswalt, Rob Huebel (who yesterday signed on to another apocalypse-based comedy, Rapturepalooza), Melanie Lynskey, T.J. Miller, Melinda Dillon as well as Aaron Brown (The District), Tonita Castro (The Sarah Silverman Program), Mark Moses (Desperate Housewives), and Bob Stephenson (Jericho). And this is all in addition to the previously announced cast-members William Petersen, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry (also in Rapturepalooza), Derek Luke, and Lindsay Sloane. How can the movie squeeze in this kind of ensemble? It’s a road-trip picture, which means most of these folks will probably only have a scene or two, but it’s better than nothing.
Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) is making her directorial debut from her own script. Production on the film begins this week. Hit the jump to check out the press release.
[Update: We've updated the article with a couple of set photos featuring Carell and Knightley. Check them out after the jump]

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this evening. First up, Adam Brody, William Peterson and Rob Corddry are in talks to join Steve Carell and Keira Knightley in Seeking a Friend at the End of the World. The film, written by and marking the directorial debut of Lorene Scafaria, the writer of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, centers on the events surrounding an asteroid spiraling towards Earth, threatening to end all life. Variety reports that Carell will play a man whose wife leaves him once the news of the world’s end hits, prompting him to seek out his high school sweetheart. Knightley stars as his neighbor and adventure companion.
Additionally, Bones star David Boreanaz is set the indie Officer Down. The flick stars Stephen Dorff, Dominic Purcell (Prison Break) and AnnaLynne McCord (90210), with Brian A. Miller making his directorial debut. Deadline reports that the story centers on a doctor and security guard who live out each other’s daytime lives in their dreams at night. The security guard murders his wife, and then is hit by a car sending him to the hospital where the doctor works. I’d say things get a little interesting from there. Boreanaz will play a rival detective oppposite the cop played by Dorff.

A trio of actors are now in negotiations to star in Rosanna Arquette’s next directorial effort. Susan Sarandon, David Arquette and Adam Brody are in talks to star in the dramedy Hemlock Drive. The Wrap reports that the film centers on an eccentric mother in Connecticut who learns she is dying and brings her three adult children back home for a weekend.
Sarandon is in talks to play the mother, while David Arquette is eyeing the role of a man who owns a nearby bar. Brody is negotiations for the part of Sarandon’s son. The script was written by Jennifer Carta and Mandy Steckelberg, and marks the narrative feature directorial debut of Rosanna Arquette, as she previously helmed the documentaries Searching for Debra Winger and All We Are Saying. Given the Terms of Endearment-esque nature of Hemlock Drive’s plot, it’s easy to see Arquette’s attraction to the project. Shooting begins this September in Louisiana.

The Scream franchise is a series of horror movies whose greatest asset has never been horror. They provide the occasional jump scare, but the strength of the series lies in crafting a critique of the slasher genre, audiences (Scream 2), and Hollywood (Scream 3). The first Scream did the best job in balancing scares with satire, but eventually the series devolved into ninety minutes of misdirection finished by a twenty minute speech where the killer explains his or her motivations. In between the movie gropes at subtext, but rarely in a coherent way that’s clever or rewarding. Scream 4 carries on this sad tradition but adds a heavy dose of resentment to the proceedings as it bitterly attacks everyone who left the snarky franchise behind.

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the worldwide distribution rights to Whit Stillman’s new film Violet Wister’s Damsels in Distress. Formerly titled just “Damsels in Distress“, the movie is first Stillman’s first picture since 1998′s The Last Days of Disco. The comedy stars Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, and Analeigh Tipton and centers on a group of young women who set out to revolutionize life at a grungy East Coast university. I know fans of Stillman can’t wait to see the flick so hopefully SPC will announce a release date soon.

The first stills from writer/director Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress have landed online. For those of you keeping track at home, Damsels in Distress is Stillman’s first film since 1998′s The Last Days of Disco and tells the story of a group of style-obsessed girls who take in a new student (Greta Gerwig) with the intention of teaching her the ways of semi-helping people/actually ostracizing people at their college. Although the project is currently without a release date, Gerwig recently discussed the film with Steve in an exclusive interview where she mentioned that it’s looking at a fall release.
Hit the jump to check out the stills. In addition to Gerwig, Damsels also stars Adam Brody, Analeigh Tipton, Ryan Metcalf, and Caitlin Fitzgerald. [Update: The film company behind Damsels in Distress has requested that we remove the Damsels images. Given our great respect for Stillman's work, we have complied.]

From first announcement to the casting of Greta Gerwig, we’ve been happy to track the progress of Damsels in Distress, the first film from writer/director Whit Stillman in over a decade. This writer is pleased as punch to pass along the latest news that Adam Brody has joined the cast. Brody is every bit the evolutionary Chris Eigman, who has starred in each of Stillman’s three features (Metropolitan, The Last Days of Disco, Barcelona) thus far. (Fingers crossed there’s a role earmarked for Eigman in Damsels).
