The casting rumors around The First Avenger: Captain America continue to swirl even after the announcements that A) Cap will be played by Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Sunshine) and B) that Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl) will be playing sidekick Bucky Barnes. Now, according to E!, a pair of British bombshells are in the running to play Sharon Carter (Captain America’s occasional girlfriend/Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Meanwhile, another Brit actress is reportedly out of the running.
Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) and Hayley Atwell (The Duchess) are both being strongly considered for the role and will have screen tests in London this week. Also of note, Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Carribean) is reportedly no longer under consideration for the role despite being the actress most familiar to American audiences. The E! article goes on to say that Eve is currently “the front-runner” for the role of Carter. But remember, at one point in time John Krasinski (The Office) was thought to be the front-runner for the title role.

The spring may not be the prelude to the summer of blockbusters, but with kids out of school, the summer remains the most competitive time of year for movies. Warner Bros. thinks Sylvan White’s The Losers is good enough to get in the fight as they’re moving the film from its April 9th release date into the fray of June 4th. That’s not a big fight for the action-thriller as it’s going up the raunchy comedy Get Him to the Greek, the derivative looking action-comedy Killers, and the family flick Marmaduke. The real fight comes the following weekend when Losers will be going up against Joe Carnahan’s A-Team. Both films have the plot line of a burned special ops team taking revenge against those who burned them, but it will be interesting to see which movie audiences will prefer.

Summit Entertainment has announced The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be released in both conventional theaters and in IMAX on June 30, 2010. While the film was shot with regular cameras, IMAX is going to digitally re-master the movie with their proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology so it can be shown in IMAX theaters.
With the huge money The Twilight Saga has been making at theaters, it’s no surprise everyone wants it in IMAX. This way, theater owners can charge more for tickets and everyone involved can make more money. It’s just unfortunate they didn’t film any of the movie using IMAX cameras when it was in production. Of course, with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn still to be shot, perhaps the final chapter will be a real IMAX release and Twilight fans will be able to see Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner fill the whole screen.

I had the chance to attend the press event for Rob Zombie’s newest film, Halloween II, and, while they made it expressly clear that the print of the film that we viewed was not a reviewable copy (bullshit), I was lucky enough to participate in a roundtable interview with the people responsible. So, while my specific thoughts on the film in any reviewable format are not an option, the land of press relations can sometimes be a fruitful one, and Mr. Zombie was candid enough to give us insight into the continuously depressing state of film production, information about a possible, upcoming project, and confirmation that there is indeed a 2nd cut of the film. So, enjoy the interview, and, if you’re a fan, be sure to check out Halloween II this Friday.

At last year’s Comic-Con, Disney surprised the audience of Hall H with a concept trailer for “Tron Legacy”. Needless to say, the crowd went crazy as no one expected the see anything from the sequel to “Tron” last year. Since then, the trailer has existed in one form or another on YouTube and other sites, but we’ve never had a high quality release of the footage…until now!
So after the jump, take a look at the first footage from “Tron 2″. Please keep in mind, none of what you are watching is in the actual movie, it’s all concept stuff. But it’s Oh. My. God. Awesome to look at. And this is the same clip I saw at this year’s ShoWest that made me lose my mind. If you weren’t excited for a sequel to “Tron”, I promise you will be after watching this footage!
