Sylvester Stallone is single-handedly trying to resurrect good old fashioned kick-ass action movies. He literally pushed himself to the breaking point on The Expendables and reprised his most famous roles in the films Rocky Balboa and Rambo. Now, Stallone is venturing into new territory with the graphic novel adaptation, Bullet to the Head, and it looks like he’ll be overseeing the final cut of the film. It was recently reported that Warner Bros. had erased the film from its April 13th release date without providing any information as to why or updating it with a new release. Sources now point to a November release date for the film due to Stallone needing the additional time to approve a final cut. Bullet to the Head follows a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) who teams up with a New York cop (Sung Kang of Fast Five) to track down the killers of their respective partners. I’m writing you this afternoon less than an hour removed from my first trip to the little slice of Americana that is a Bass Pro Shop. For those unfamiliar with the chain, imagine a store with Wal-Mart-esque square footage that devotes itself entirely to all things outdoor. While I’ll admit to being a little out of my element (okay, way out of my element), even an outdoor novice like myself can relish the opportunity to have their picture taken with a taxidermic grizzly bear. For those of you waiting for me to somehow make a connection between my Bass Pro experience and this week’s “Top 5″, this ellipsis is about as close as you’re going to get…
…In this week’s installment you’ll find the much-anticipated first trailer from writer/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, the first poster for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D, some new set photos from Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises, and interviews for both The Thing and Craig Brewer’s Footloose. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

The Thing, a prelude to the 1982 classic from John Carpenter, follows a team at an isolated outpost in Antarctica, who discover an alien creature unearthed by a crew of international scientists. Carter (Joel Edgerton) and Jameson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) are American helicopter pilots and friends, who service the camp with supplies and transport personnel. On one such run, they find themselves fighting for their lives, as a parasite with the ability to turn itself into an exact replica of any living being begins making its way through the team, and no one knows who they can trust.
To promote the film, British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje spoke to Collider for this exclusive phone interview about being attracted to the suspense-thriller aspect of the story, his desire to play an all-around nice guy, how much fun he had working with the repulsive creatures, and how he enjoying being the film’s comic relief. He also talked about facing off against Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming feature Bullet in the Head, and his desire to keep people guessing with the roles he continues to play. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is an intimidating presence. Over 6ft, with massive arms and a Cheshire cat smile, Agbaje’s physical attributes have aided him in crafting some of the most threatening forces on the small screen – most notably in Lost and Oz. But recently Agbaje has begun to subvert this image playing against his natural appearance, last year as the cowering Evangelist seeking forgiveness in the under-seen/underappreciated Faster and now in The Thing prequel/remake as the jovial, soft-spoken Jameson. Agbaje doesn’t nearly have enough to do in the upcoming film, but he makes the most of his limited screen-time crafting an easy going camaraderie with Joel Edgerton’s Braxton and establishing an instantly likable persona. You can’t help but root for Jameson to beat this alien and make it the hell out of Antarctica – I mean, if that really even is Jameson to begin with.
In the following interview with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, he discusses playing against type in The Thing, developing an American accent for the film and working with both practical and CGI effects. Agbaje also previews the forthcoming Walter Hill directed/Sylvester Stallone starring Bullet to the Head and describes his role in the film. The Thing opens Friday, October 14th. Universal Pictures has sent over four clips from The Thing. The film is a prequel to John Carpenter’s classic 1982 horror pic. The premise is similar to Carpenter’s original, as it centers on a group of scientists in Antarctica who are tormented by an alien being that has the ability to mask itself in human form. Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., the film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Eric Christian Olsen, Ulrich Thomsen, and Davetta Sherwood. Hit the jump to check out the clips and look for our exclusive interviews with the cast in the coming days. The Thing opens October 14th.

Four clips from the action flick Killer Elite have gone online. The convoluted plot centers on a retired special-ops agent (Jason Statham) who must leave his peaceful life and do some more murdering in order to free his mentor (Robert De Niro). Meanwhile, he’s being tracked by former SAS operative (Clive Owen) who works for a shadowy organization known as The Feathermen. If these clips give you the impression that the film isn’t very good, then these clips honestly represent the movie.
Hit the jump to check out the clips. Killer Elite opens September 23rd.

The trailer for Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s remake/prequel of The Thing has gone online. The film shares the same title of the classic 1982 John Carpenter film but takes place before the events of that movie. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays paleontologist Kate Lloyd who works with a Norwegian scientific team that stumbles upon an ancient extraterrestrial ship in Antarctica. Fans of the original know that it’s safe to assume that matters go downhill from there. After watching this trailer, I’m have no idea what the new film brings to the table.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Joel Edgerton, Eric Christian Olsen, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The Thing opens October 14th. Click here to read Steve’s set visit.

A trio of actors have joined Walter Hill’s untitled adaptation of the graphic novel Bullet to the Head. Variety reports that Christian Slater, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost) and Holt McCallany (TV’s Lights Out) will star alongside Sylvester Stallone in the action-thriller formerly referred to as Headshot. Stallone plays a New Orleans hit man who allies himself with a Gotham cop in order to take down the killers of their respective partners. The report confirms that Sung Kang will be playing the Gotham cop, a role that Thomas Jane was initially hired to play before he was subsequently fired from the project. If you missed our interview with Jane, he candidly explains what went down behind the scenes.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje is set as the main villain (putting those Jason Momoa rumors to rest), with Slater taking on the role of a local handler who acts as a middleman, while McCallany will portray Kang’s dirty cop partner. Production is set to begin soon.

While director George Tillman Jr. was incredibly busy when I got to visit the set of Faster earlier this year, towards the end of the afternoon, during some down time, we managed to get in a few questions about Dwayne Johnson’s return to kicking ass.
What I liked about Tillman Jr. was that he told us Faster reminded him of a 70′s action film (which he’s a big fan of). He told us, “I just felt like this movie was a throwback to those films in the Seventies… like with Steve McQueen.”
The other thing that made me happy was that Faster wouldn’t be filled with CGI cars and fake driving. Tillman told us, “we doin’ it all, there’s no visual effects, it’s us.” And if they didn’t get a shot they needed, “we gotta come back and get it next week. I think that’s what makes it interesting. The closest recently I think is what (Quentin) Tarantino did with Death Proof. “ Much more after the jump:

With the November 24 release date only a month away for Dwayne Johnson’s return to kicking ass in movie theaters, CBS Films has released a new green band trailer for Faster. If you remember, last week the studio released a red band trailer, which showed you this wasn’t another Dwayne Johnson kids flick.
Written by Joe and Tony Gayton (Bulletproof), Faster is directed by George Tillman, Jr. (Notorious) and it stars Carla Gugino, Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace, Jennifer Carpenter, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Moon Bloodgood, and Tom Berenger. Hit the jump to watch:

Eric Christian Olsen is one of those actors you’ve seen in a bunch of different movies and TV shows, but you probably don’t know his name. That’s because over the past few years, Olsen has been working consistently on shows like NBC’s Community, Brothers & Sisters, Fired Up, and he recently started on NCIS: Los Angeles. Basically, he’s one of those actors right on the cusp of being recognized.
However, a few months ago, when I was in Toronto visiting the set of The Thing prequel, Olsen met up with the group I was with at a local restaurant and no one recognized him. I think that’s about to change.
During the interview, Olsen told us how he got involved in the project and who he plays, was he interested in doing a horror film, what was it like to work with all the Norwegian actors, the practical effects, and what does he remember about seeing The Thing for the first time. He also told us how the movie isn’t your typical modern horror film, and he talks about NBC’s Community and how he was supposed to do more episodes last season. Hit the jump to read or listen to what Olsen had to say:

While many people know Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje from his work on HBO’s Oz, I’ll admit to first appreciating his acting skills as Mr. Eko on Lost. While his time on the island was short, he made a lasting impression on everyone that watched the show.
So when I found out I was going to visit the set of The Thing prequel a few months ago in Toronto and he’d be on set, I’ll admit to being excited to talk to him. Thankfully, Akinnuoye-Agbaje was great to talk with and he told all the visiting online reporters about who he plays in the prequel and and how he arrives at the situation they’re in. He also told us why he has to do an American accent, how his character served in Vietnam, what he remembers about seeing the original Thing for the first time, the practical effects, and we talk a bit about Lost. Hit the jump to read what he had to say:

Dwayne Johnson is looking to push into more action after a slew of kid-friendly flicks and CBS Films’ Faster is his re-entry into the genre. George Tillman, Jr. (Soul Food, Barbershop) will direct the hard-nosed revenge flick, written by Joe and Tony Gayton (Bulletproof). The flick has already received an R rating and the new clip certainly shows its violent and sexy side. Hit the jump for the red band trailer, plot synopsis, and the mildly impressive cast.

A few months ago I got to visit the set of The Thing (the prequel to the classic John Carpenter film with the same name) with a few other online reporters. As I said in my set report, I think the prequel is going to surprise a lot of people because director Matthijs van Heijningen is making a movie that should tie seamlessly in with the original. If it all comes together like the way they told us on set, you should be able to watch both films back to back and they’d feel like they belong together.
Anyway, while on set we were able to speak with Mary Elizabeth Winstead. In the film, she plays a paleontologist named Kate Lloyd and it’s through her character that we journey to Antarctica and meet the rest of the crew. During the interview she talked about how she got the part, who she plays, what was it like to walk around with the flamethrower, what was it like being the only girl in the film, when did she first watch The Thing and what was her take on it, how is filming a horror film different from other movies, how did she prepare for the role, and a lot more. A few months ago I got to visit the set of The Thing (the prequel to John Carpenter’s classic film with the same name) and while on set I got to speak to almost the entire cast – along with a few other online reporters. As you might imagine, getting to visit the set was an awesome experience and you can read all about it here.
Anyway, the lead in The Thing is a great Australian actor named Joel Edgerton. If you saw the movie Animal Kingdom, he was one of the leads in that. But since most of you probably missed it, perhaps you recognize him from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith as he played Owen Lars.
During the on set interview, Edgerton talked about why Australians are playing American alpha male characters, doing accents, if he feels any pressure being the lead in a big science fiction film, what he remembers about the original Thing, who his character is, the practical special effects, how he prepares for each scene and the film, and a lot more.
