Are Kate Beckinsale, Milla Jovovich and Sofia Vergara Starring in the DANGER GIRL Movie?

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: August 22nd, 2011 at 5:26 pm

File this one under rumor for now, but word on the street is (and by street, I mean the highly accurate interwebs) that the feature film version of Danger Girl now has three very good-looking women attached to star. Latino Review reports (via tracking boards) that Kate Beckinsale, Milla Jovovich and Sofia Vergara are attached to the adaptation of the Wildstorm comic book series Danger Girl from J. Scott Campbell. Benderspink is apparently shopping the rights to the project, which is described as Kill Bill meets Raiders of the Lost Ark, with the team element of Mission: Impossible thrown in for good measure. Todd Lincoln (The Apparition) is supposedly attached to direct.

The casting seems a bit too “teenage boy’s fantasy” to be true, so I’m reluctant to report this as solid fact at the moment. Then again, it could also turn out to be spot-on (egg, meet face), but for now just take this with a grain of salt. When the Danger Girl film was first announced, producer Adrian Askarieh said that the film would be the anti-Charlie’s Angels and more in the vein of Batman Begins. Adrian Askarieh and Bill Block Prep ALIEN SLEEPER CELL

Producers Adrian Askarieh (Hitman) and Bill Block (District 9) are teaming up to develop the alien invasion thriller Alien Sleeper Cell.  Details are under wraps, but given the title, I suspect it’s about the activation of extraterrestrial sleeper agents and the threat they pose to humanity.  The Wrap hears Alien Sleeper Cell described as “a fresh and surprising take on the all-too-familiar alien invasion genre that features the tense tone of The Bourne Identity.”  The film will need a fresh and surprising take given all the aliens invading movie theaters over the next couple years: Battle: Los Angeles, I Am Number Four, Cowboys & Aliens, Men in Black 3, Super 8.  Even Battleship has aliens for some reason.

Morgan Davis Foehl will write the script for Alien Sleeper Cell based on an idea from Felipe Linz.  Block’s next film is The Fields (due July 16th), and he’ll reunite with District 9 director Neill Blompkamp for Elysium. Askarieh’s upcoming projects include adaptations of the cartoon Johnny Quest, the comic books Hack/Slash and Lost Squad, and the video game Kane & Lynch, plus the big-budget original Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever and a sequel to Hitman.

JUST CAUSE Getting Big Screen Adaptation with HITMAN Producer Adrian Askarieh

by Bill Graham    Posted: October 2nd, 2010 at 7:17 am

Despite a number of video game adaptations fluttering in the wind because of their high budgets, it seems people just can’t get enough out of developing high concept productions. Eric Eisner’s L+E Pictures will be the latest to start fleshing out a video game adaptation, because according to Variety, they’ll be taking on Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause franchise with some help from producer Adrian Askarieh of Prime Universe Productions. The goal is to sell the film to a studio after Michael Ross (Turistas) writes the script. Hit the jump for full details on the project.

Wayne Kramer to Direct KANE & LYNCH?

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 27th, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Director Wayne Kramer (Running Scared) is reportedly in talks to helm the upcoming adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch.  Stunt Coordinator Simon Crane was set to make his directing debut on the film, but according to Latino Review, “it wasn’t working out” with the studio.  An offer then went out to F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) but he turned down the project.  Now they’re talking to Kramer and production is scheduled to begin in August.

Based off the Eidos game and written by Kyle Ward, the film stars Bruce Willis as Kane, a mercenary who’s forced to team up with Lynch, a schizophrenic killer played by Jamie Foxx, in order to escape prison and find a stolen microchip.  Anyone who has seen Running Scared knows that Kramer would be a fantastic choice for this project.

Spanish Director Daniel Benmayor Might Helm HITMAN 2; Will Timothy Olyphant Return?

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: May 24th, 2010 at 10:06 am

Timothy Olyphant Hitman movie slice

Spanish helmer Daniel Benmayor is in talks to direct Hitman 2 for 20th Century Fox.  While not a choice many would have guessed, Benmayor made a name for himself directing commercials for Renault, Mercedes, Heineken, Samsung and Sony PlayStation.  He recently made his feature debut on a Spanish movie called Paintball which is about a group of adrenaline junkies who get dropped in a forest for a paintball match but quickly discover someone is using real ammo.

While the first Hitman didn’t get rave reviews, the $30 million budgeted film made over $100 million worldwide.  It’s no surprise Fox wants a sequel.  The big issue for the studio is whether or not Timothy Olyphant will return as Agent 47.  That’s because the actor would have to shave his head and he might not want to, as he’s currently riding a wave of great reviews for his work on the FX series Justified.  More after the jump:

Producer Adrian Askarieh (Hitman) revealed today that director Todd Lincoln (the upcoming horror-thriller The Apparition) will helm the upcoming adaptation of the Wildstorm comic series Danger Girl.  Speaking to the LA Times, Askareih says the comics are “Kill Bill meets Raiders of the Lost Ark with the “team” element of Mission: Impossible.”  However, Askareih says they’ll be taking a Batman Begins approach the film by taking the characters “very seriously.”  The producer says it will be the anti-Charlie’s Angels.

Leonardo da Vinci Action Hero?

by Ti Alan Chase    Posted: March 11th, 2010 at 8:09 am

Leonardo da Vinci image (1).jpgStart with Leonardo da Vinci, throw in some cryptic codes and secret societies, and end with heaping helping of angels and demons.  Sound like the recipe for a new Dan Brown novel?  Guess again, it’s Warner Bros. latest effort to fictionalize history.

According to THR, WB has picked up a treatment for Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever by producer Adrian Askarieh.  The premise is really quite logical – since Da Vinci was a great painter, sculptor, inventor, scientist, musician, architect and writer, it only stands to reason that he must have been a great action hero, too.

Askarieh – whose credits include Hitman and the upcoming Jonny Quest -will be producing with Roy Lee and Doug Davison (The Departed).  No screenwriter has been chosen yet.  In addition to da Vinci, Warners is also working on fantastical stories about King Arthur (directed by Guy Ritchie) and Marco Polo (Francis Lawrence).

On tonight’s red carpet for the 2009 Scream Awards, I was able to speak with producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter about three of their upcoming projects: “Hitman 2″, “Kane & Lynch” and “Hack/Slash”. According to Askarieh and Alter, they just got the script for “Hitman 2″ and they’re turning it into the studio next week. When I asked them how it differed from the first film, Askarieh says it’s “far more action packed and it takes place in America.” Alter said, “it’s more of a genre film.” They hope to be in front of the camera in early spring or summer of next year.

Regarding “Kane & Lynch”, they said they’re filming in Louisiana in the spring and Bruce Willis is playing Kane. When I asked who would be playing Lynch, they said we’d find out soon, but then Askarieh told me he’s a British actor. I would assume we’re going to hear who he is any day. Finally, when we talked about “Hack/Slash”, Alter confirmed Fredrick Bond is the director and said it’s going to start early next year. No casting yet but Alter says we’re going to hear something pretty soon. Watch the full interview after the jump:
