The first trailer Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters has been released.  The first Percy Jackson received mixed critical response and lukewarm box office, but the sequel seems to be retaining the same tone even though Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) has replaced Chris Columbus at the helm.  Hopefully, the sequel will have a better plot, but since this trailer appears to give away a lot of the movie, it already looks overcrowded with the best moment belonging to Nathan Fillion, who plays Hermes.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Stanley Tucci, Douglas SmithLeven Rambin, Missi PyleYvette Nicole Brown, and Mary Birdsong.  Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters opens in 3D on August 16th.

The first images from the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters have landed online.  The follow-up finds the titular Percy (Logan Lerman) and his friends venturing to a mythical land known as the Sea of Monsters to retrieve a golden fleece that is essential to the survival of his home.  Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) takes over directing duties from Chris Columbus this time around, and these images showcase Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, and newcomer Stanley Tucci getting into more trouble in fantastical locations.

As we head into the beginning of January, we prepare for a rather drastic shift in new releases from awards contenders to genre fare.  The critically reviled The Devil Inside kicked off 2012, and first out of the gate in 2013 is another horror film, Texas Chainsaw 3D.  A few new images from the film have landed online, giving us a couple of new looks at ol’ Leatherface.  The pic is a direct sequel to the 1974 original and picks up where that film left off: a young woman has escaped the horrors of the Sawyer family and alerted authorities.  The townspeople descend on the Sawyer household and burn it to the ground, seemingly putting an end to the family’s reign of terror.  The story then jumps forward to present day where a young woman has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she didn’t know she had, and naturally things take a dark turn when she goes snooping around.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to settle into the holiday spirit…with Texas Chainsaw 3D. A new TV spot and trailer have popped up for the re-imagined slasher pic, though the trailer doesn’t offer much in the way of new footage. But both do showcase star Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), so you can’t really go wrong there.

Directed by John Luessenhop (Takers), Texas Chainsaw 3D also stars Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Bill Moseley, Dan Yeager, Gunnar Hansen and Paul Rae. The film opens in 3D on January 4th. Hit the jump to check out the new TV spot and trailer.

TOP 5: New York Comic-Con, TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D Set Visit, Wally Pfister Calls THE AVENGERS “Appalling”, CARRIE Teaser Trailer, Hugo Weaving vs. TRANSFORMERS

In the spirit of the Halloween season, last night I watched The Cabin in the Woods again for the first time since catching it in theaters back in April. After a second viewing, my feelings on the film haven’t really changed. I love it. I love it with the passion of an army of “Mermen”. It’s just a brilliant blend of satire, horror and comedy and I’ll argue all day/all night with anyone who tells me differently (in all fairness, it’s okay if you don’t like the movie…you’re wrong, but it’s okay). If you’re like me and enjoy taking in horror classics around good ol’ All Hallows’ Eve, I ask that you do yourself a favor and include The Cabin in the Woods in your classic programming slate. You’ll either (A) love it or (B) have the opportunity to argue with me all day/all night. It’s a win-win.

With my Halloween viewing recommendation in hand, I’ll now present to you this week’s edition of our Top 5. In this week’s iteration is our coverage of New York Comic-Con 2012, yours truly’s Texas Chainsaw 3D set visit, Wally Pfister using the words “appalling” and The Avengers in the same sentence and all hell breaking loose shortly thereafter, the first teaser trailer for director Kimberly Peirce‘s Carrie remake, and Hugo Weaving vs. Transformers. A brief recap and link to each patiently awaits your attention after the jump.

Alexandra Daddario Talks About Starring in an Iconic Franchise, How This Film and the Original Differ and More on the Set of TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D

In Texas Chainsaw 3D, Alexandra Daddario stars as Heather Miller, a young woman who unexpectedly learns that she has inherited a house/estate in Texas from a recently deceased grandmother she’s never met. When she and a group of friends travel to claim her inheritance, though, things take a turn for the worst as she discovers that beneath the veneer of a Victorian mansion lies a grizzly secret that involves a chainsaw and masks made of detached human faces.

During my visit to the Shreveport, Louisiana set of Texas Chainsaw 3D, a group of journalists and I had the opportunity to talk with the young actress about working in the unforgiving Louisiana heat in August, the pressures of starring in an iconic franchise, how this film differs from Tobe Hooper‘s original and more. Check out all Daddario had to say in the full interview after the jump.

With Texas Chainsaw 3D opening January 4th, 2013, star Alexandra Daddario came to New York Comic-Con this weekend to promote the film.  Directed by John Luessenhop (Takers), the pic is a direct sequel to the 1974 original and picks up where that film left off: “a young woman has escaped the horrors of the Sawyer family and alerted authorities, leading the townspeople to descend on the Sawyer household and seemingly put an end to the family’s reign of terror.  The story then jumps forward to present day where a young woman (Daddario) has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she didn’t know she had.”  Needless to say, after she arrives, things go bad.  For more on the film, here’s the trailer and all our previous coverage.

During my exclusive interview with Daddario we talked about being at NYCC, how she got cast, the gore, how the film changed from the initial conception through to the final cut (she reveals that there was an alternate ending filmed), what it was like to film in Shreveport, Louisiana, and a lot more.  In addition, we also talked about White Collar (she played Kate), Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (she just filmed an episode) and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch.

First Trailer for TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D

The first trailer for Texas Chainsaw 3D has been released.  Fans of the franchise will probably be happy as they look to get exactly what they expect from this new installment.  The trailer is quick to establish who is probably going to be the first to die (a half-naked girl who appears to enjoy drugs), but doesn’t do much else to establish why this film was warranted.  Expect a lot of chainsaw-centric 3D gimmicks and a rehashing of the original storyline.  If that’s all you’re really looking for in a Texas Chainsaw movie, this trailer should be enough to whet your appetite.

You’re driving down the street, and it’s suddenly blocked off.  You notice these weird yellow signs with nonsensical letters or numbers.  There’s unusual glow lighting up a neighborhood you can’t usually see from your house.  What you might have here is a film company shooting in your town.  It happens a lot, and you never know where they might pop up…until now.

The following is a semi-comprehensive list of films currently shooting, what they’re shooting, and where they’re shooting.  We’ll be telling you where you might get to see the very famous, the kinda famous and (if all goes well) the soon-to-be famous. While we can’t list every single movie, television show, or student film in production, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what the heck is going on where all those people are buzzing about.  Want to know where in the world are Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Woody Harrelson, and Leonardo DiCaprio? PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF Review

by     Posted: February 12th, 2010 at 12:51 am

slice_percy_jackson_olympians_lightning_thief_movie_image_01.jpg

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief wants you to cheer for three characters who don’t know how to count.  Leave aside the tired hero’s journey (Have a crappy life? It turns out you’re actually special and a cool new life awaits!  Jackpot!), the awful special effects, the forgettable characters, and the complete lack of wonder Greek myths set in the modern world should offer, and you still have three protagonists who don’t know that three is less than four.  Percy Jackson wants to be the next Harry Potter, but The Boy Who Lived knows how to count higher than two and in his first adventure he’s five years younger Jackson.  Percy Jackson may be special, but it’s in that condescending way meant to imply learning disabilities.
