While Rebel Wilson’s hosting gig at the MTV Movie Awards this past Sunday may not have been a hit with everyone, her performance with fellow Pitch Perfect cast members must have struck a chord. Universal announced today during its presentation at CinemaCon that sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit is now in development for a planned 2015 release, and original writer Kay Cannon (30 Rock) is back on board as well. Pitch Perfect focused on the world of collegiate a capella groups, detailing the struggles of an all-female group, the Barden Bellas, who desperately want to redeem themselves at the national championships.
The cast featured Wilson, Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Hanna Mae Lee, and Ben Platt. No word on if the entire cast, director Jason Moore, or producer and cast member Elizabeth Banks are returning, but as development progresses, we can expect those announcements to be released. Project X was a surprise of the year, a raunchy teen comedy that took advantage of a budget-trimming found-footage gimmick and was successful enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. Fans of Superbad, American Pie and The Hangover will find common ground with Project X, but the film goes even farther than any of them dared. So how can you enjoy the world’s most insane party without risking jail time and millions of dollars in property damage? Pick up Project X on Blu-ray so you can watch the madness from the comfort of your couch. Hit the jump for my review of director Nima Nourizadeh’s Project X on Blu-ray.

Anna Kendrick is becoming an actress I trust instinctively. I love watching her on screen, so if I am not sure about a movie, her presence will nudge me to go see. Pitch Perfect is a good test case. It’s a snarky college movie, which can be good but often isn’t. The Kendrick Factor makes me want to check it out though, and it helps that the movie has been getting great early buzz. Even if you haven’t fallen for Kendrick as hard as I have, you can check out 7 clips from Pitch Perfect to get a sense of the movie after the jump.
Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Adam Devine also star in the acapella comedy. Directed by Jason Moore, Pitch Perfect opens October 5.

Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) could do no wrong, even before this new clip of her engaging in a rap battle in director Jason Moore’s musical comedy film, Pitch Perfect. Kendrick stars as Beca, a college student who stumbles into an a cappella club populated by a motley crew of girls whose only common link is their singing ability. While the clip features other cast members joining in on the “riff off,” Kendrick steals the show at the end.
Also starring Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Adam Devine, Pitch Perfect opens October 5th. Hit the jump to watch the clip and to see how you can make it into a music video for the movie.

The first trailer for the musical comedy Pitch Perfect has gone online. The film stars Anna Kendrick and centers on an all-girls college a capella group that is in the process of rebuilding in order to defeat the rival all-boys group. Yes, the film is likely capitalizing on the country’s sudden obsession with Glee, The Voice, etc., but this trailer is saved by the electric charm of Kendrick and Bridesmaids standout Rebel Wilson’s impeccable sense of humor. In other hands Pitch Perfect has all the makings of a Step Up copycat, but with the promising chemistry between Kendrick and Wilson, Avenue Q’s Jason Moore in the director’s chair, and Elizabeth Banks producing, I’m definitely interested to see more. Also, as if Kendrick wasn’t already one of the coolest people around, the girl’s got an impressive voice to boot.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, John Michael Higgins, Adam DeVine and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Pitch Perfect opens on October 5th.

Imagine the ultimate high school senior year house party from the male perspective and push it over the edge. That’s a rough description of the absurdity and chaos that breaks out in the latest handheld camera film called Project X. Following three seniors trying to throw a party that will get them noticed once and for all, they end up losing control and everything turns into absolute chaos as it expands. However, that’s after they have a whole hell of a lot of fun getting there. Unfortunately, like waking up with a hangover, the ending of this film almost ruins what happened before. Almost. With producer Todd Phillips and director Nima Nourizadeh‘s R-rated teen comedy Project X opening in a few days, last weekend I got to talk with the filmmakers and cast about making the film. Starring Thomas Mann, Miles Teller, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame, Nichole O’Connor and Alexis Knapp, Project X is about a group of outsiders that decide to throw a party where things get absolutely out of control. Trust me, there is no way you see this movie and leave the theater disappointed. For more on the film, here’s a ton of images and four clips.
During my interview with Kirby Bliss Blanton and Alexis Knapp we talked about how they filmed a lot of the movie in chronological order, what it was like to work with Todd Phillips, karaoke, how much fun they had shooting the movie, and their favorite movie, actor and director. A new red band spot for the Todd Phillips-produced party comedy Project X has gone online. The previous trailers have been entertaining enough, but this red band spot really brings out the “Rated R” aspect of the film. The movie looks to be sufficiently filthy, and this trailer highlights the first jokes from the film that I’ve found more than marginally funny. If the rest of the movie is like this trailer (which I assume it is), then I can definitely understand how most of the films jokes aren’t exactly age-appropriate. I’m still not on board with the whole “dwarf punching people in the balls” bit, but I think Project X takes an interesting approach to the comedy genre and Steve said he laughed his ass off, so I’m looking forward to checking it out.
Hit the jump to watch the red band spot. If you haven’t already, enter our contest to win some movie-related swag. The film stars Thomas Mann, Miles Teller, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame, Nichole O’Connor and Alexis Knapp. Project X opens on March 2nd.

Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Dax Flame, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Brady Hender, Nick Nervies, Alexis Knapp and Miles Teller star. Project X opens on March 2. The first trailer for the secretive comedy Project X has been unveiled. The film was produced by The Hangover director Todd Phillips, and the project has been a bit of a mystery as Phillips compiled a cast of relative unknowns (many found through an open casting call.) for the low-budget comedy. Now we’ve got our first look at the pic, and it looks like 90 minutes of insane debauchery. It appears to be filmed in the “found-footage” style that’s so popular nowadays, but instead of catching monsters and ghosts on camera, we get naked ladies and bongs. I’m definitely intrigued to see more, as it looks like it should be a pretty wild ride. The MPAA tag alone reads like a laundry list of bad behavior.

True to his word, The Hangover director Todd Phillips stuck to a mostly unknown cast for the enigmatic college comedy he’s producing, Project X. Pre-production has been shrouded in secrecy: we know that helming duties will be handled by commercial/music video director Nima Nourizadeh (making his feature debut), from a script by Matt Drake and Michael Bacall. But neither an official title nor a comprehensive logline have seen the light of day.
The casting process was fairly unique: in addition to the usual in-person sessions, young actors were able to submit their own agent-free audition online. In the end, Phillips and Co. landed on Miles Teller, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame, Nichole O’Connor, and Alexis Knapp. More after the jump:
