WonderCon: New Images and Info on the Kenner ALIEN Action Figures Being Sold Later This Year by Super7

Back in the late 70s, Kenner, the same company that made the original Star Wars figures, designed 3 ¾” action figures for the original Alien.  At the time, Kenner thought Alien would be a big hit and the figures might be another Star Wars.  They thought wrong.  Shortly after they released a 12″ Alien figure, which barely sold, Kenner decided to kill the 3 ¾” toy line and the figures never saw the light of day.  However, the prototypes eventually leaked into collectors hands and they were the types of figures everyone always wanted but could never own.

Until now.

Later this year, Super7 will be releasing new action figures based on the original 33-year-old prototypes and will use them to help make these “lost toys” a reality.  Like all the toys from the 70s, the figures will be loaded with five points of articulation, accessories, and period-authentic blister card packaging.  Included will be Ripley, Ash, Dallas, Kane in Nostromo Suit and the Alien.  Hit the jump for more info and images.

Remember back in June when Alien Anthology was only $38.99 on Blu-ray?  Well if you bought it then, you were a sucker.  Today, a scant five months later, it’s Amazon’s Gold Box Deal of the Day and is going for $19.99 (71% off MSRP).  To be fair, this is a set worth owning at any price.  Not only do you get all of the Alien movies in HD as well as all the special features from the incredible Alien Quadrilogy box set, but there are also new extras created especially for this set (like what really happened on Alien 3).

Ridley Scott Refused to Do an Extended Cut for PROMETHEUS Blu-ray; Jon Spaihts Reveals Details about His Original Script

by     Posted 253 days ago

prometheus-slice

One of the most frustrating things about Prometheus is its potential.  There are simply too many plot holes (which, admittedly, I didn’t notice when I saw the film; I was wrapped up in the visuals, performance, and strength of Ridley Scott‘s direction).  The fact that the marketing for the Blu-ray has had to be “Questions Will Be Answered” is preposterous.  This isn’t Lost.  This is a movie, and either the questions should have been answered or they should purposely be left ambiguous.  Looking back on Prometheus, I’ve wondered if the more fulfilling picture is out there either in a director’s cut or in screenwriter Jon Spaihts‘ original script.

Hit the jump for why we won’t be seeing the director’s cut, but we can learn a bit more about what Spaihts intended before screenwriter Damon Lindelof came on board.  Prometheus hits DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray tomorrow.

Another day, another Limited Paper filled with reasons to deplete your bank account’s bottom line.  Last time, we offered up a super-sized batch of reading material, one filled to the rafters with new prints by Brandon Schaeffer, Tom Whalen, Laurent Durieux, Jason Edmiston, and more.  Today, we’re back with a slight less super-sized edition of your preferred Collider.com column.  But don’t worry, there’s still much for us to discuss, including Mondo’s just-released poster for The Goonies, Tomer Hanuka’s just-released Vertigo poster, and blah.

Meet me after the jump for all that and more, my fellow poster-fiends.

Comic-Con 2012 kicked off several days ago, but so far there seems to be no indication that the tidal wave of awesome screenprints is anywhere close to slowing down:  so far, we’ve seen a jaw-dropping Princess Mononoke print from fan-favorite Olly Moss, an absolutely amazing piece of The Dark Knight Rises-related artwork from comic book superstar Jock, and—earlier this morning—Mondo released one of their most highly-anticipated posters of the year:  the latest entry in their Universal Monsters series, Creature From The Black Lagoon.  But there’s plenty more to come, and today’s other trio of releases proves that the gentlemen at booth #437 still have plenty of tricks up their sleeve.

Wanna see the three new Mondo posters that dropped at Comic-Con today, along with an enormously impressive piece of Alien-related artwork from Mark Englert?  Sure ya do.  Meet me after the jump, my fellow limited-paper enthusiasts.

We’re only 24 hours or so into the 2012 SDCC, and already Mondo – the movie-poster producing arm of Tim League’s ever-expanding Alamo Drafthouse brand—has caused quite the stir:  last night’s archive sale put a slew of Avengers posters into the hands of eager fans who’d been unable to catch them during their drop dates, and today the company unveiled three new posters—for The Dark Knight Rises, Princess Mononoke, and HBO’s Game of Thrones–  that resulted in the kind of sprawling lines usually associated with theme park rides.  Want to see Mondo’s latest, and hear about what it was like on the frontlines?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

Book Reviews: THE BOOK OF ALIEN and PROMETHEUS: THE ART OF THE FILM

Every film fan should own at least a couple “Making-of” books.  These books might not meet the sheer wealth of material the special features DVD or Blu-ray can offer, but they can make great reference material you can pull off your shelf at any time or have sitting on your coffee table if you just want to kill some time and look at some gorgeous concept art.

The best making-of books offer an excellent blend of informative material coupled with high-quality images, and with the release of Prometheus, two new making-of books have hit shelves:  The Book of Alien and Prometheus: The Art of the Film.  One is an example of how to a making-of book wrong, and the other is an example of how to do it right.

Ridley Scott Talks PROMETHEUS, Viral Advertising, TRIPOLI, the BLADE RUNNER Sequel, PROMETHEUS Sequels, More

by     Posted 1 year, 17 days ago

No matter how much time you get with director Ridley Scott, it’s never enough.  After all, you could spend an entire interview discussing the original Alien, Blade Runner, or his under-appreciated gem, Kingdom of Heaven (specifically the director’s cut with forty additional minutes that completely changes the film).  So when I got to participate in a roundtable interview with Scott yesterday in London for Prometheus, his first sci-fi movie in thirty years, you could say I was a bit excited.

During the twenty minute interview, Scott talked about how Prometheus came about, it’s relation to the original Alien, the viral marketing, technology, his fascination with robots and artificial intelligence, and so much more.  In addition, Scott talked about other projects like Monopoly, the Blade Runner Sequel, what ever happened to Tripoli and what it was about, and reveals that he already has ideas for the Prometheus sequel, assuming he gets to make one.  Hit the jump to either read or listen to the interview.

Damon Lindelof Talks Turning an ALIEN Prequel into PROMETHEUS, the Viral Campaign, Revealing Too Much in Trailers and More

by     Posted 1 year, 37 days ago

damon-lindelof-prometheus-slice

I can safely say that Prometheus is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year.  Beyond the fact that it marks a return to the sci-fi genre for director Ridley Scott and is related to his classic horror film Alien, it looks unbelievably cool.  By now most people are familiar with the fact that the project originated as a direct prequel to Alien, but when Damon Lindelof was brought onboard to work on the screenplay it morphed into an original story that has ties to the Alien universe.

On the heels of 17 new images from the film yesterday, EW has now unveiled an extensive interview with Lindelof in which he addresses exactly how the film changed from a straight prequel to a separate story, how the excellent viral campaign came about, trying not to reveal too much in the marketing material, and he comments on how the title of the film is tied into the story’s themes.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

New Three-Minute PROMETHEUS Trailer Has Loads of New Footage and a Great Look at Alien Life Forms

by     Posted 1 year, 49 days ago

prometheus-ridley-scott-slice

Prometheus hasn’t landed yet, but a new three-minute trailer has.  It shows a ton of new footage (which may be on the spoilery side) and emphasizes Charlize Theron’s character, Meredith Vickers.  Vickers comes across like a female version of Stephen Lang’s Colonel in Avatar and clearly has a seedy agenda (which is blatantly called out in a spat of coarse dialogue).  The trailer plays as a mini-movie of sorts, a condensed version of what we can expect when the full theatrical release hits theaters on June 8th.  Get caught up on all of our previous coverage here, including images, featurettes, posters, what the film will be rated and the ongoing viral marketing campaign.  Directed by Ridley Scott, Prometheus also stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Guy Pearce.  Hit the jump to check out the awesome new trailer.

20th Century Fox showed up to WonderCon 2012 ready to unveil some footage for their heavy hitters this summer. The studio led off with director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, the loosely-tied prequel to that Alien franchise you may have heard about. We’ve already brought you the new trailer and the viral site featuring Michael Fassbender’s character, David. While they didn’t screen any additional footage beyond the trailer, Damon Lindelof was on hand to moderate a panel discussion that included Sir Ridley Scott, Fassbender and Charlize Theron.

Prometheus, starring Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce. Prometheus opens in IMAX 3D on June 8th. Hit the jump for our recap on the panel discussion .

Guy Pearce’s Role in PROMETHEUS Possibly Revealed [Minor Spoiler]

by     Posted 1 year, 111 days ago

PROMETHEUS-monolith-slice

Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus is one of my most-anticipated movies of the summer, and Fox has done a pretty good job keeping the details under wraps.  We know it has Alien-DNA, that the last eight minutes will tie into Scott’s 1979 seminal sci-fi horror film, and a few other assorted details.  Last May, we reported that Guy Pearce had joined the film, but there were no details on his character.  In a recent interview, Scott may have revealed who Pearce is playing.  I don’t consider this is a major spoiler since A) the publication is in question; and B) if it is true, the director had no problem giving away the info in an interview.  I can understand wanting to keep the secrecy going on a movie that’s managed to keep us in the dark so far (and hopefully will continue to do so up until its release), so don’t click ahead if you want to avoid a minor spoiler.

Hit the jump to find out who Pearce might be playing.  The film also stars Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, and Michael FassbenderPrometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.
