Sandra Bullock Shows Up to Accept Razzie: Could She Be First Double-Dipper?

Sandra Bullock’s Razzie for worst actress in All About Steve (and as one half of the worst screen couple with Bradley Cooper) may have been well-deserved (I can’t confirm or deny that), but no one can  deny that she took it with the right spirit.

In a surprise move, Bullock not only showed up to accept the dubious honor Saturday night, but also chided the audience, saying, “”Something tells me you all didn’t watch the film, I thought no one went to see this film, but I know that there are more than 700 members here. That means that the majority of the 700 cast their vote, so that means 352 …?” She brought a wagon full of All About Steve DVDS on stage with her and challenged voters to watch it, saying she would return next year to give back her Razzie if they change their minds.

Nothing but class there, and if Bullock prevails at tonight’s Oscars for her performance in The Blind Side, which she’s at least slightly favored to do, she would become the first person to win an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year, Personally, I’d like the award to go to Carey Mulligan for An Education, but that would certainly be a fun precedent. Hit the jump for a full list of the Razzie winners, three special all-decade winners, and video of Sandra Bullock accepting her Award.

Razzie Nominations Announced; TRANSFORMERS and LAND OF THE LOST Tie with Seven Noms Each

I don’t have much love for the Razzie Awards.  It’s not because I disagree with their choices as much as I find their choices predictable and safe.  Instead, they just phone it in with movies most people agree are terrible and then we move along with our day.  No controversy, no creativity, no reason to care.  Well, I don’t care.  Some people do just as some people think Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Land of the Lost are genuinely good movies even though they each scored seven Razzie nominations.

Other “worsts” include Old Dogs, All About Steve and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  Acting nominations are even more non-sensical as they seem to pick actors in bad movies rather than bad performances.  Did people walk out of Bride Wars thinking Candice Bergen was one of the worst parts of that movie?  Was Will Ferrell one of the worst actors of the year because of Land of the Lost?  No, but this way you don’t have to actually watch movies and make an argument for these things.

Check out a full list of the nominees after the jump plus the nominees for Worsts of the Decade.  The losers will be announced on March 6th.

All About Steve– 2009′s romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock that wasn’t The Proposal– concerns many things.  It concerns crossword puzzles, red disco boots, TV news anchors, deaf kids, cicadas, cleavage, and– above all else– it concerns the notion of stalking-as-romantic comedy device, which may also concern you (just not in the way it concerned all those other things).  For those about to hit the jump to read a review wherein Sandra Bullock’s latest romantic comedy gets eviscerated, we salute you.

Weekend Box Office – THE FINAL DESTINATION Takes Summer’s Final Frame with $12.4 Million

The summer movie season is at an end and, as usual, it is going out with a whimper instead of a bang.  Despite the fact that the studios gave audiences three fresh choices at the multiplex, the film that eked out the best numbers as of Sunday continued to be last weekend’s 3D horror-hit “The Final Destination”… sick of hearing me talk about those “higher ticket prices” yet?  Though only five thousand dollars separated “Destination” and “All About Steve” on Friday, the fact that the Sandra Bullock/Bradley Cooper comedy received some of the worst reviews of the summer (a feat in itself) helped that gap widen as the weekend progressed.  Neither of our other newcomers, “Gamer” and “Extract”, built any real momentum which left “Steve” looking a bit like a hit… standards are a lot lower on Labor Day.

Title Weekend Total
1 Final Destination 4 $12,435,000 $47,566,000
2 All About Steve $11,200,000 $11,200,000

4 Gamer $9,000,000 $9,000,000
5 District 9 $7,000,000 $101,274,000
6 Halloween 2 $5,608,000 $25,644,000
7 Julie & Julia $5,200,000 $78,840,000
8 GI Joe $5,100,000 $139,415,000
9 Time Traveler’s Wife $4,215,000 $54,557,000
10 Extract $4,187,000 $4,187,000

Friday Box Office – THE FINAL DESTINATION Barely Edges Out ALL ABOUT STEVE to Start the Labor Day Weekend

Last weekend I was debating which of Labor Day’s new releases would take the top spot during summer’s big finish: “Gamer” or “All About Steve”.  The four day box-office period is not traditionally a big money maker for the studios which is why films like “Steve” (delayed since last March) and “Gamer” (21% on Rotten Tomatoes) ended up at the ass-end of the summer schedule.  But there was one film I forgot to include in my calculations – “The Final Destination”.  The fourth installment in the nine year-old horror franchise continued to pump its 3D legs on its second Friday – bringing in an estimated $3.58 million from 3,121 venues. The romantic comedy “Steve” was not far behind with $3.55 million so I wouldn’t be surprised if, by Sunday, the Sandra Bullock/Bradley Cooper vehicle pulled ahead.  In truth, not much separates Friday’s top four films so anything could happen.  Check back tomorrow for a box-office update.

Title Friday Total
1 Final Destination 4 $3,580,000 $38,700,000
2 All About Steve $3,550,000 $3,550,000
3 Gamer $3,300,000 $3,300,000
4 Inglourious Basterds $3,000,000 $83,200,000
5 District 9 $1,750,000 $96,100,000

Bradley Cooper Talks A-TEAM and His GREEN LANTERN Audition on The Tonight Show

For most of last spring, if one actor’s name was linked to the feature adaptation of “Green Lantern” more than any other it was probably Bradley Cooper.  We all now know the result of the infamous three-way battle to play the Lantern between Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Reynolds – Reynolds won.  But what we didn’t know until last night was why Bradley Cooper was at such a distinct disadvantage when it came to securing the role of Hal Jordan.  Cooper confessed to Conan O’Brien that he had a really, really bad audition.  Find out just how bad after the jump.
