Summit has released images and synopses for their 2012 line-up. We already showed you the first image from Warm Bodies, and now we have the first images from Gone starring Amanda Seyfried, Sinister starring Ethan Hawke, The Perks of Being a Wallflower starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, and Step Up 4 starring people you probably don’t know. The studio has released synopses for all of their 2012 movies. We don’t have images for every one of their films and some of the synopses are really just log-lines, but you’ll know more about these films than you did before.

While the battle of the two Linda Lovelace biopics continues, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s (Howl) Lovelace keeps looking better and better. They’ve got a stellar ensemble cast that includes Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgard, Juno Temple, Wes Bently, Sharon Stone, Adam Brody, Demi Moore, and possibly James Franco, and now we’ve got our first look at Seyfried and Sarsgard in character. Seyfried plays the titular Lovelace in the biopic that follows the actress through the production of Deep Throat and her abusive relationship with her husband, Chuck Traynor (played by Sarsgard). The two look pretty great/adorable pre-abusiveness, and Sarsgard is rocking that porn star facial hair.

With recent word that director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) would be recording live vocals from his actors rather than pre-recording them, it made sense to pad his line-up with actors who possessed some singing talent. Or singers who possessed some acting talent. Well, in this case, he’s done both, as Amanda Seyfried (In Time) and Taylor Swift (Valentine’s Day) have been offered roles in the cinematic musical, Les Miserables. Seyfried has been offered the role of Cosette, a part in which her operatic background should come in handy. Country singer Swift has been offered the role of Eponine, having beaten out such actresses as Lea Michele (Glee), Scarlett Johansson (We Bought a Zoo) and Evan Rachel Wood (The Ides of March). Hit the jump for more on Les Miserables. [Update: Deadline reports Seyfried has signed on to play Cosette]

We’ve got a few new posters to share with you this morning. First up is the one-sheet for Wanderlust. Directed by David Wain (Role Models), the film stars Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston as a couple who stumble upon a nudist colony and decide to give communal living a try. We’ve also got new poster for the abduction thriller Gone starring Amanda Seyfried and Wes Bently, and a teaser poster for the southern comedy The Baytown Disco starring Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. Wanderlust opens February 24th, Gone is slated for February 24th, and The Baytown Disco is currently awaiting a release date.

The first trailer for the thriller Gone has been released. The film stars Amanda Seyfried as a young woman who suspects that her missing sister has been abducted by the same serial killer who kidnapped her two years prior. The trailer’s actually not bad, as it sets up the movie almost as a revenge flick with the authorities refusing to believe Seyfried’s story. The young woman decides to set out on her own to track down the killer in order to free her sister. The pic looks like it could be a pretty intense little thriller in the vein of Minority Report.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Jennifer Carpenter, Wes Bently, and Sebastian Stan. Gone opens February 24th, 2012.

Writers have been set to pen an adaptation of the Rolling Stone article The Girl Who Conned the Ivy League. Variety reports that Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair will write the screenplay for producer McG. The 2009 article by Sabrina Rubin Erdley tells the true story of a woman who create a fake ID and conned her way into Columbia University, and the manhunt that ensued. The project was first announced back in March of last year, and Amanda Seyfried is attached to star. McG will produce alongside Mary Viola and Michael Nardelli.
McG is currently in post-production on his action-romantic comedy This Means War starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy, while Seyfried is gearing up to star as Linda Lovelace in the biopic Lovelace alongside Peter Sarsgaard. No word on how soon production on The Girl Who Conned Ivy League will begin.

Things are looking up for the biopic Lovelace. The film has finally locked its lead, with Amanda Seyfried set to star as the titular Linda Lovelace, and Peter Sarsgaard is in talks to play Lovelace’s lover/ex-husband Chuck Traynor. Howl directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman are onboard to direct the film and production is set to get underway in January. Courtesy of the American Film Market, we’ve got a promo poster and an official logline for the film, which gives us an idea of its direction. It sounds like it’ll center on Lovelace’s work in Deep Throat, as well as her eventual eschewing of the pornography business, as well as her tempestuous relationship with Traynor. Hit the jump to check out the poster and logline.

The battle of the Linda Lovelace biopics marches on, as Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard are now in talks to star in Lovelace. Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Howl) are onboard to direct the pic, based on Eric Danville’s book The Complete Linda Lovelace. Variety reports that Seyfried will play Lovelace, with Sarsgaard in talks for the role of her pornographer husband Chuck Traynor. Lovelace came to prominence after her starring turn in the 1972 porn film Deep Throat. She quit the business and divorced Traynor years later, claiming that her husband took advantage of her and coerced her into pornography and prostitution.
James Franco and Kate Hudson were previously attached to Lovelace, but both dropped out after Hudson became pregnant. A competing project titled Inferno (the Lindsay Lohan one) is being developed with Malin Ackerman as the star. Production on Lovelace is set to begin in January.

Today is a good day. The Cardinals are World Series champions, trick r’ treaters will soon be out in full force, and I’ve got a night of horror films to look forward to. Once a year, my fiancée agrees to watch a few pics of the scary variety (or at least Halloween themed ones, i.e. Ernest Scared Stupid) with me in the hopes that I won’t ask her to partake in them again until the following Halloween weekend. Last year’s highlights included Drag Me to Hell and Trick r’ Treat. This year is shaping up to be Tobe Hooper-heavy with Poltergeist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre possibly making the cut. Like I said, today is a good day.
Before you dive into whatever Halloween festivities may await you, I hope you’ll take a few minutes and check out what this week’s “Top 5″ has to offer. In this installment you’ll find the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D, a new trailer for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and interviews for this weekend’s openers In Time, Anonymous and The Rum Diary. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

[Disclaimer: When I use the word "time" (or any variation thereof) figuratively, I'm not trying to make a pun. It's just a common and useful word for our vernacular.]
Andrew Niccol‘s In Time has the opportunity to take its solid sci-fi concept and thoughtfully explore social and existential issues. Unfortunately, the movie skips along the surface, making its obvious points repeatedly and with decreasing clarity. While the need to make a smart sci-fi concept palatable to the masses is understandable, Niccol takes his appropriate action coating and runs it into the ground. In Time has so many things it wants to be and to say, but it ends up tripping over the words after the first few sentences.

Press conferences can be a difficult affair – a bunch of journalist packed together in a room, most hesitant to ask questions (they’re saving them up for their one-on-ones), the others not having the good sense to be hesitant in their question-asking prowess. Some of the worst inquiries imaginable have been uttered during the course of a junket. At the Contagion event awhile back, some intrepid reporter asked Matt Damon which character he most easily identified with – Jason Bourne or his family-man character in the film. I mean – really? All this however, does create a much looser vibe. Actors/filmmakers seem to actively await the next idiot question asked and a palpable sense of disdain drips in the air.
Case in point: The In Time press conference. Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Vincent Kartheiser, Matt Bomer and writer/director Andrew Niccol all were ready to pounce/tear at any and all questions asked. Topics ranged from parallels between Occupy Wall Street and the film to why there aren’t any cell phones in the picture to what’s it like to run in high heels (directed at Seyfried, of course). For all this and more, hit the jump.

In last week’s “Top 5″, I painfully admitted to not having seen either Moneyball or 50/50. Moreover, I put my credentials as “mildly credible film blogger” up as collateral in the case that I hadn’t checked both out by this week. Sadly, I’ll have to forfeit my title as I’ve only managed to catch 50/50 so far. On the bright side, I thought that film was great and is definitely one of my favorites of the year thus far. As for Moneyball, well there’s always this week.
In spite of my lack of mild credibility, I hope you’ll still choose to check out this week’s “Top 5″ where you’ll find new hi-res images from The Avengers, the return of Arrested Development, our In Time set visit coverage, and interviews for George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March and Shawn Levy’s robot boxing extravaganza Real Steel. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

A massive Brinks truck careens around a corner in LA’s fashion district, destroying the quiet of the mid-January afternoon. The armored car accelerates to full speed, blasting through a floor-to-ceiling sheet glass window and into the center of a bank. Wood, plaster and shards of glass spray across the floor. As the dust settles, writer/director Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War) yells, “Cut!” Later in the afternoon, Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried pull open the bank’s vault and pass out strange silver rectangles embedded with digital clocks to a swarming crowd of extras. Timberlake yells, encouraging the mob to act quickly, but take as much time as they need. Welcome to the world of In Time.
While visiting the set of the film, which hits theaters October 28, I got to participate in group interviews with Niccol, producer Eric Newman, Timberlake and Seyfried, learn about the film’s unique high-concept, and watch nine-time Oscar nominated cinematographer, Roger Deakins, as he shot his first film on digital. Read on for a write up of the set visit and the 20 things to know about the film.
