A bit of TV pilot casting, starting with an item for those of you who wondered where Josh Holloway went after Lost signed off in 2010:
- Holloway is back to play “a former Navy SEAL and dedicated intelligence officer” in the CBS drama Intelligence.
- Andre Braugher (Last Resort) and Melissa Fumero (One Life to Live) will star opposite Andy Samberg and Terry Crews in the untitled Fox sitcom from Parks and Recreation writers Mike Schur and Dan Goor.
- Maiara Walsh (Switched at Birth) will take over for Emma Stone to play Wichita in the Zombieland TV series.

ABC will let freshman dramas Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue finish out their 13-episode seasons before giving them the ax. The network recently picked up two additional scripts for each show, but decided to pass on a renewal due to underwhelming ratings. Co-creators Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and Karl Gajdusek spoke recently on the challenges of keeping the rogue submarine drama Last Resort afloat, but the network has torpedoed it. (Apologies for the nautical puns; I’m out of my depth.)
Fans of the show will be able to see the first season of Last Resort, starring Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman, air in its entirety in its original time slot of Thursdays at 8pm. Don’t feel too bad for Ryan, who has the Beverly Hills Cop series in development at CBS with Eddie Murphy and Brandon T. Jackson attached. Ryan also has a U.S. Marshal project underway at TNT. Hit the jump for more on the demise of 666 Park Avenue and the upcoming slate of new shows on ABC.

The new ABC drama series Last Resort, from co-creators Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and Karl Gajdusek, tells a suspenseful, emotional and action-packed story about what happens when a U.S. submarine crew receives an order to fire nuclear weapons at a foreign country, and then ignores that order. With nowhere left to turn, Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) and XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of theColorado to an island where they will find refuge, as they try to clear their names and get back home.
During a recent interview to promote the series, actor Andre Braugher talked about what drew him to Last Resort, how tough their current timeslot is, what viewers can expect from the coming episodes, what he likes about his character, the feedback he’s getting from viewers, and his hope that it will take a long time to get to the heart of the show’s conspiracy. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Robert Patrick – who plays Master Chief Joseph Prosser, a career military man and longtime confidant to the Captain, as well as the designated leader of all enlisted crew on the Colorado – talked about how much fun he’s having on what he sees as a very important show, how he views his character, what’s to come for his storyline, whether or not he thinks he could survive on a submarine himself, and what he thinks it is, in himself, that leads people to cast him as tough guys and villains. He also talked about the experience of making Gangster Squad, due out in theaters on January 11, 2013. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

ABC is continuing the trend set forth by its broadcast brethren to air some of their Fall pilots online before their official premiere dates. NBC did it with Revolution, and CBS has done it with Elementary, so now ABC is in the game offering up their military drama Last Resort to online viewers.
Last Resort was created by Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and stars Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street) and Scott Speedman (Felicity) as two Navy officers who refuse a mysterious order to fire missiles at Pakistan, making their submarine an enemy of the state. We previously brought you some first images, posters and this kick-ass trailer for Barry Battles’ The Baytown Disco, but now you can forget about them. In a new distribution deal, the film is now titled The Baytown Outlaws and will, as such, presumably feature a new marketing campaign in the coming months. The Southern-fried comedy stars Billy Bob Thornton, Eva Longoria and Andre Braugher. The Baytown Outlaws aims to debut early in 2013. Hit the jump to read the press release.

The first trailer has jumped online for Billy Bob Thornton-starrer, The Baytown Disco. A self-professed “Southern-fried whip-ass extravaganza,” The Baytown Disco features a trio of ruthless outlaw brothers who fall into helping a damsel in distress (Eva Longoria). She hires them to help return her godson (Thomas Brodie Sangster), who has been kidnapped by her nefarious ex-husband, Rob (Thornton). While I wasn’t exactly sold on the synopsis and images alone, the new trailer hits all the right banjo strings (and the femme fatales certainly do not hurt). Directed by Barry Battles, The Baytown Disco also stars Clayne Crawford, Michael Rapaport, Daniel Cudmore, Travis Fimmel, Andre Braugher and Paul Wesley. Hit the jump for the trailer and official synopsis, and to watch the original short that inspired the feature-length film.

Daniel Cudmore (Twilight: New Moon), Travis Fimmel (TV’s The Beast), and Andre Braugher (TV’s Men of a Certain Age) have joined Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria in the Southern comedy The Baytown Disco. Directed by Barry Battles, the film follows three brothers who, as usual, get more than they bargained for when they agree to help a woman get her son back from his abusive father. Serinda Swan, Clayne Crawford, Thomas Sangster and Meagan Good also star.
THR reports that Cudmore, Fimmel and Crawford will star as the trio of brothers. The script, by Battles and Griffin Hood, made the 2009 Black List. The Baytown Disco is set to start filming on May 2nd in Louisiana.

There comes a time in every man’s life when circumstances turn dire. Our bodies begin to ache; running and physical activities no longer seem as appealing; we lose hair; food becomes a safety hazard; and women exude little, if any, interest in those wrinkles gathering beneath our eyes. I’m 28 years young, but I’ve always feared the big 30. I can only imagine my feelings once I near 40, and then 50. The word “terrifying” comes to mind.
Perhaps that’s why I’m so grateful for TNT’s Men of a Certain Age, a television series that shows mid-life in an optimistic, even grateful light. The aches and pains remain, but they are outweighed by the new experiences the 45+ chapter of life affords. Hit the jump for my review of the first season on DVD.

Prime time drama is something usually reserved for blow-em-up action, unrealistic life situations, or a very complicated love triangle (octagon, etc). All of these are extremely over the top, and, for the most part, are completely lost on male audiences. From Ray Romano comes Men of a Certain Age, a show that looks to change all that, a show that gives viewers the things most shows can’t: a believable drama that has the allure of intense story, while also being accessible by everyone who watches it, especially men.
Men of a Certain Age follows three lifelong friends in their daily lives. Joe (Ray Romano) is the owner of a party supplies store whose recently separated from his wife, Owen (Andre Braugher), a car salesman who is knee deep with family issues of his own, and Terry (Scott Bakula), a man who has spent his entire life living in the moment and never looking toward the future. Each of these men are dealing with problems in their life, such as gambling or loneliness, and try to hold on to what sense of normalcy they can, all while still remaining friends. While the first look at director Phillip Noyce’s “Salt” happened a few days ago due to a leaked Russian trailer, Sony has wisely posted the official trailer so we can all stop trying to decipher Russian. If you saw the Russian trailer, the official release is exactly the same.
As Matt said the other day, “Salt” looks like Jason Bourne in a dress. And that’s a good thing, especially when it’s Angelina Jolie wearing the dress. If you like action movies, check out the trailer after the jump. “Salt” hits theaters on July 23rd, 2010.

The catalog flood of titles to Blu-ray is one of the best and worst things about getting the new toy that is Blu-ray. The good news is that a lot of great titles are coming out looking better than ever. The bad news is not only might you get double dipped, you’re more than likely to purchase something that will look great but always kind of sucked. My reviews of Air Force One and Glory after the jump.
