Following a slew of “mini trailers” and one brief teaser, the first full trailer for the upcoming fifth season of HBO’s True Blood has gone online. The clip shows quite a bit of footage from the upcoming season, including the promise of a prolonged Bill/Eric team-up (please tell me a buddy vampire spin-off is in the works), the return of an old fan favorite character, and the promise of more of that weird clown face that apparently appears when witches get high or something. However, the best part about this trailer is Mr. Christopher Meloni. He joins the cast this season as the head of The Authority, a council made up of the most powerful vampires in existence. If you remember the predicament that Bill and Eric found themselves in last season and compound that with the returning baddie, you should have some idea of where this promisingly badass Meloni character comes in.

Frankly, I gave up on vampires a long time ago, and it takes a lot for me to get interested in them, and that includes the HBO series True Blood. However, we know that there are plenty of True Blood-thirsty fans out there clamoring for every bit of hype as we lead up to the fifth season premiere on June 10th at 9/8c. Therefore, you’ll be happy to know that in addition to the most recent trailer and teaser poster, we now have a batch of 12 character posters (with Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Moyer and more) that have so much red on them they would make Shaun of the Dead blush.
Honestly, they’re not all that special, but for fans who have a favorite character (or enjoy seeing Christopher Meloni with fangs), they could make a cool iPhone background or something like that. Anyway, you can check out all 12 of the new posters, along with the most recent trailer, after the jump.

Get ready to sink your teeth into these new photos from season five of HBO’s True Blood. The supernatural drama returns this summer with some new blood added to the cast by way of Christopher Meloni, Valentina Cervi and Christopher Heyerdahl. These photos highlight the new characters, but also include a fresh look at some of the old, played by series regulars Stephen Moyer, Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgard and Nelsan Ellis. The stakes have been raised once again as season five will feature the arrival of some new powerful vampires as well as the return of a fan-favorite. Season five of True Blood returns on June 10th. Hit the jump to check out the photos.

The fifth season of True Blood still doesn’t begin for over a month, but HBO is attempting to make the wait less/more painful by releasing a series of teasers fittingly titled “Waiting Sucks.” You’ve probably seen this trailer format before (I think they did it for season four as well), but they show a behind-the-scenes/on-set view of a pivotal scene being filmed. These three trailers center on Terry & Patrick, Sookie & Alcide, and Sam & Luna. The Sookie & Alcide one is particularly enticing as it teases the return of a fan favorite character.
I felt that the creative juice for the series started to wane during the third season and I didn’t really see it back in full-force last year, but hopefully things are more fun this season. The addition of Christopher Meloni to the cast is certainly promising. Creator Alan Ball has stated that season five will be his last as showrunner, so it’ll be interesting to see how the show adjusts for the very likely season six. Anyway, hit the jump to watch three new teasers for the show. Season five of True Blood premieres on Sunday, June 10th.
While everyone is currently hyped up for the return of HBO’s Game of Thrones, a little show called True Blood popped up to remind us that season five of the supernatural series starts this summer. We’ve previously brought you the first promotion and more recent teaser trailers from everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure, but now we have a teaser montage of clips from the upcoming season. With news that showrunner Alan Ball is overseeing this season but stepping down from the day-to-day responsibilities of the show for a possible sixth season, it will be interesting to see how this summer’s run turns out. Also, with new cast addition Christopher Meloni, the old gang of supes could be in for quite a shake up, but Christopher Heyerdahl steals the show with his chilling narration of the new season five promo. Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Tom Hiddleston (Thor) have joined Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) in a gritty noir thriller. A recent pick up by Cargo Entertainment, Black Wings Has My Angel is a story about an armored car heist by an escaped prisoner and a female escort. The script, written by Barry Gifford (Wild at Heart), Christopher Peditto (Light and the Sufferer) and Alfonso Pineda Ulloa (Restos) is an adaptation of the 1953 Elliott Chaze novel. The long-gestating project is due to start shooting this September. Hit the jump for more.

Another awards ceremony, another The Artist triumph. Michel Hazanavicius’ silent film continues its near sweep of awards season as it took home the Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor prize from the London Film Critics Circle Awards. Surprisingly, the other film to tie The Artist with three awards was the Iranian drama A Separation. The foreign film has been riding a wave of immense positive word of mouth, and the London Film Critics awarded the pic with Foreign Language Film of the Year, Best Screenwriter, and Best Actress.
Nearly shut out of the awards was Britain’s own Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The espionage drama failed to pick up any major prizes and was sent home with a win for Best Production Design. Elsewhere, We Need to Talk About Kevin was named Best British Film, Anna Paquin shared the Best Actress prize with Meryl Streep for her work in Margaret (quickly becoming the little engine that could), and Michael Fassbender won British Actor of the Year for his stellar work in Shame and A Dangerous Method. Full list of winners after the jump, which includes the critics’ top 10 films of 2011.

Cam Gigandet is joining the cast of the indie drama Free Ride. Written and directed by Shana Sosin, the indie drama tells the true story of an abused single mother in the 1970s who moves her two daughters to Florida to make a new life for herself. Anna Paquin stars as the mother, and also has a hand behind the scenes as Free Ride marks the first production for her production company SCAMP. Variety reports that Gigandet will play Paquin’s love interest. The film also stars Drea De Matteo (The Sopranos), Liana Liberato (Tresspass), Ava Acres (Five), Jeff Hephner (Hellcats) and Paquin’s fellow True Blood alum Brit Morgan. Paquin is producing alongside Cerise Hallam Larkin, Susan Dynner, and her husband/True Blood star Stephen Moyer. Production is set to begin later this month in Sarasota, Florida. Paquin will go straight into Free Ride after filming Straight A’s with Ryan Phillippe.

The trailer and poster for Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret have gone online. The long-awaited and long-delayed follow-up to Lonergan’s You Can Count on Me, Margaret centers on a high school student (Anna Paquin) who discovers that watching Alison Janney get hit by a bus will really throw you for a loop. There’s definitely going to be a tough balance here between hitting honest emotions of a teenager who witnesses and feels responsible for a tragedy and going too melodramatic. Hopefully Lonergan and his excellent cast, which also includes Mark Ruffalo and Matt Damon, can keep the story grounded.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. The film also stars J. Smith-Cameron, Jean Reno, Jeannie Berlin, and Matthew Broderick. Margaret opens September 30th.

Anna Paquin and Ryan Phillipe have signed on to star in the indie comedy Straight A’s for Nu Image/Millenium Films. According to Variety, “Phillippe portrays a man who’s been in and out of rehab for 10 years and is haunted by the ghost of his dead mother pressing him to return home to the family he turned his back on years ago. Outfitted with nothing more than a bag of pills and a sack of weed, he trots back to Shreveport, only to be faced with his brother’s wife, who’s still pining for him, her first love.” Presumably Paquin plays the brother’s wife. Also, if a drug addict being haunted by his dead mother and pining to screw his sister-in-law isn’t comedy, then I don’t know what is.
James Cox (Wonderland) will direct from a script by David Cole. Production began today on location in Shreveport, Louisiana. Paquin will next be seen in Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret co-starring Matt Damon and Mark Ruffalo. Phillippe will next be seen in your local gas station’s $5 DVD bin in Set Up co-starring 50 Cent and Bruce Willis.
[Update: Variety reports that Luke Wilson has joined the cast as well. He will play Paquin’s husband and Phillippe’s brother.

Six episodes into Season 4 of True Blood, things are definitely heating up in the small, sexy town of Bon Temps, where vampires, werewolves, witches and all things supernatural are becoming more commonplace than the humans. Although everyone with the show is always very tight-lipped, when it comes to plot reveals, during the HBO portion of the TCA Press Tour, co-stars and real-life husband and wife, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, talked about Sookie’s stubborn streak, how they enjoys the tension in the relationship between Bill and Sookie because it makes for interesting television, the ability to pitch possible storylines, how the cast is always trying to get tidbits about the story and their characters out of the writers, and how incredibly talented the entire cast is. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

In a massively attended panel, the cast and creator of the ever-popular HBO series True Blood teased audience members with scenes from the current season and hints about upcoming seasons. Attended by Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alan Ball, as well as Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman), Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse), Rutina Wesley (Tara Thornton), Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby), Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam) and Kevin Alejandro (Jesus), the cast took fan questions as well as shedding some light on some interesting turns we can expect in the quaint town of Bon Temps. Hit the jump to check out the Q&A.
[Update: HBO has uploaded a new trailer. Watch it after the break.]

Not unlike any other first episode of a new season, True Blood once again reminds us that if we think it didn’t happen, it probably did. Every premiere, we are thrown in the fantastical world of Bon Temps and wondering what else there is lurking behind the lush vegetation of this Louisiana town. This season, however, takes us out of our comfort zone and immediately throws us into what I can only describe as a science-fiction landscape. The fast rising climax of the opening scene without delay takes us from this reverie scene of realization and literally drops us back down to earth, where Sookie (Anna Paquin) is instantly bombarded with a slew of questions and a sudden catharsis like you’ve never imagined. More after the jump.

True Blood hasn’t become a breakout hit by resting on its laurels. Each season seemingly reinvents the wheel: taking another in the series of Sookie Stackhouse novels and interpreting it in a way that places its characters in an entirely new light. Season 3 has its ups and downs, but – as the new DVD set shows – when it hits its stride, it can’t be beat. Hit the jump for my full review.

HBO has announced two extremely exciting panels that will appear at this year’s Comic-Con: Game of Thrones and True Blood. Additionally, Alan Ball’s True Blood is making its fourth consecutive appearance at the Con, with Ball and stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Kevin Alejandro, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Nelsan Ellis, Joe Manganiello and Deborah Ann Woll scheduled to appear at the panel on Friday, July 22nd.
