With news on The Dark Knight Rises relatively slow at the moment, we’ve scoured the net to see what Batman fans and related entities are up to. Recently we brought you images of some pretty realistic toys for The Dark Knight Rises. Now we have some hi-res shots of those toys for you to check out. Though for some people, that’s not enough. Some people have to make their own figures . And some go a step further and craft their own credit sequence to the movie itself. Bat-fan Dogan Can Gundogdu has crafted a meticulous opening sequence for The Dark Knight Rises that gives us a taste of what the film would look like if David Fincher was the director. The latest trailer for The Dark Knight Rises got fans all in a tizzy, but it still didn’t provide many details on the plot.  We know the movie takes place seven years after The Dark Knight, Batman (Christian Bale) and Gordon (Gary Oldman) have become irrelevant in a peaceful Gotham, but now a new villain, Bane (Tom Hardy), threatens the safety of the city.  Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) factors in there somewhere.

So can we get at least get a brief scene description?  Some morsel to tide us over until Bane possibly destroys another sports team?  Well you can find it after the jump but be warned: it’s a big spoiler.  Less spoilery: a few new details regarding Catwoman’s costume.  Hit the jump to check out the fresh info.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

New Trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has gone online.  The trailer is full of ominous warning.  Both Batman and Gordon brought peace to Gotham, but it looks like that has only served to massive destruction and Catwoman warnings.  There’s plenty to like in the trailer: the set design, the tone, the chanting, and how the frame is packed with action.  But there’s one shot that had me cracking up and it’s the destruction of the football field.  I watch that and all I can think is, “Bane just seriously fucked over my fantasy football team.”

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael CaineThe Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

With all of the momentum that Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has been gaining around these parts the past few days, it’s only fitting that Warner Bros. would continue to fuel the fire by sending over a new Bane teaser poster from the pic. Given that the film is still seven months away from release, I would imagine we’ll be seeing plenty more teaser one-sheets pop-up (ala The Dark Knight). In the meantime, this new sheet in addition to the original teaser poster from the film should be enough to tide me over.

Check out the new poster after the jump. The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. The film hits theaters on July 20th, 2012. Also, in case you missed them, be sure to check out our spoiler-free recap of the film’s six-minute IMAX prologue and the film’s initial viral marketing campaign.

One Day follows the progression of one couple from their first meeting in 1988 through their much-changed lives twenty years later. The film, which is based on the novel by David Nicholls (who also wrote the script), gets along by peeking in on this couple on the same day each year. Emma Morley (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter Mayhew (Jim Sturgess) meet on July 15 on their graduation from university. The two decide to remain friends rather than pursue romantic interests, and the film takes off from there. Some years are given more attention than others as the film strings through the saga of a couple that never quite gets it all right. Hit the jump for our review of One Day on DVD.

Anne Hathaway Set to Star and Produce Paramount Thriller PUZZLER

Oscar-nominated actress Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) is now making her transition into producing, starting with the thriller Puzzler. The Paramount project has been pitched as a female-centric, paranoia thriller similar to Three Days of the Condor. In the 1976 Sydney Pollack thriller, Robert Redford stars as Joe Turner, code name Condor, who finds his CIA researcher co-workers dead and must figure out why as he tries to stay steps ahead of the assassins. One can assume that Hathaway will take on a similar role.

The script for Puzzler will be penned by Karl Gajdusek (Dead Like Me) who also wrote the recent thriller Trespass, starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman. As this is Hathway’s first time producing, she will also be joined by Adam Schulman, Sarah Perlman and Stefan Sonnenfeld, according to a report by THR.

Anne Hathaway Confirmed to Play Fantine in LES MISERABLES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: October 18th, 2011 at 9:14 am

We reported back in August that Anne Hathaway was in talks to join Tom Hooper’s Les MiserablesDeadline now reports that Hathaway has closed her deal and will play Fantine in the movie musical.  For those unfamiliar with the musical, the story is set in the years leading up to and during the French Revolution. Fantine is a factory worker who faces increasingly dire circumstances as she tries to provide for her young daughter Cosette.  She also has one of the best songs in a musical filled with amazing songs, the beautiful and heartbreaking “I Dreamed a Dream”.  When it comes to singing ability, we know Hathaway was able to deliver in a sketch at the Oscars several years ago and she’s attached to star in a Judy Garland biopic that’s been in development hell for years.  However, Fantine will be one of her most demanding roles since she’ll be judged not only on her performance but on how she handles a beloved song.

Hugh Jackman is attached to play the lead role of Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe will play the dogged antagonist, Inspector Javert.  Les Miserables is set to open on December 7, 2012.  Hit the jump to watch a performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” at the Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Concert at Royal Albert Hall.

New Set Photos from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Show Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

Some new images have surfaced from the Los Angeles set of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and they showcase Anne Hathaway sporting what looks to be her complete Catwoman costume. Considering there isn’t a ton of context to these pics, I’ll refrain from analyzing them to the Nth degree. Moreover, it’s not as if the look of the costume is going to sway my decision to pay to see them film most likely three different times when it hits theaters next summer.

Check out the set photos after the jump. Also starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard and Michael Caine, The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20th, 2012.

Peter Sollett to Direct Romantic Comedy From 30 ROCK Scribe, Anne Hathaway Wanted for Lead

Director Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) is in negotiations to helm an untitled romantic comedy for Lionsgate. 30 Rock scribe Kay Cannon wrote the screenplay, which centers on a career woman looking to break her streak of losing romantic relationships to her job. Risky Business reports that Anne Hathaway has been offered the lead role in the wholly original project, which is absolutely not like every other romantic comedy ever made.

The report is quick to point out that Hathaway has not accepted the role, and negotiations have yet to take place, but she does have a clear schedule (for the moment) once she wraps on The Dark Knight Rises. In addition to her work on 30 Rock, Cannon also scripted the upcoming college a capella group-centered flick Pitch Perfect which is set to star Anna Kendrick.

Some new images of Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway on the Los Angeles set of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises have popped up online. There isn’t anything potentially spoilery about the photos, nevertheless, I’ve elected to put them after the jump in case readers don’t want any part of Hathaway hailing a cab while wearing a winter coat.

Check out the set photos after the jump. Also starring Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard and Michael Caine, The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20th, 2012.

RIO Blu-ray Review

I love a good marketing campaign, whether it stems from a truly clever idea or creative cross-promotion.  Too often, however, the film (or other product, if we want to speak generally) does not live up to the work executed to promote it.  So when Rio teamed up with iPhone app uber-hit “Angry Birds”, 20th Century Fox hit marketing gold.  But what about the film itself?  My review after the jump.

Anne Hathaway Up for LES MISERABLES and Other Casting Rumors [UPDATED]

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: August 29th, 2011 at 9:03 pm

Working Title is doing its very best to secure an A-list cast for the upcoming Les Miserables adaptation, leading with Hugh Jackman as ValjeanIt’s On The Grid reported last week the studio is courting Russell Crowe for Javert, Geoffrey Rush for Thenardier, and Helena Bonham Carter for Madame Thenardier, respectively.  The site also identified Hayden Panettiere, Miranda Cosgrove, Lucy Hale, and Emma Watson as candidates to play Eponine and Cosette, and suggested Amy Adams and Rebecca Hall were up for the role of Fantine.  Make of all that what you will.  Sorry to do this so soon, but I have to make it more complicated.  Broadway World [via The Playlist] hears Anne Hathaway is set to play Fantine, at the recommendation of Jackman.

Hathaway meets the aforementioned A-list requirement, and she sure can sing.  Of course she’s on the list.  It remains to be seen if the rumor will lead anywhere, but it is believable that the role is Hathaway’s if she wants it.  Director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) is scheduled to shoot Les Miserables early next year, so we should receive a final cast list before the end of the year.  Read the synopsis of the Victor Hugo novel that led to the source musical after the jump. [Update: Entertainment Weekly confirms that Hathaway is in talks to play Fantine.]

ONE DAY Review

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: August 18th, 2011 at 2:45 pm

one-day-slice

More than a tale of two people taking too long to realize they should be in a romantic relationship, Lone Scherfig’s One Day mostly succeeds as a story about the ups and downs of a close friendship over the course of twenty years.  I imagine most people have had this kind of relationship, where two people grow closer, grow apart, and change drastically over the, but One Day does a solid job of hitting the emotions associated with that experience.  But the film can’t manage the actual love story as leads Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess never find the intimate chemistry that’s so crucial to the film.

Anne Hathaway Responds to Criticisms of Her Costume in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: August 9th, 2011 at 11:37 am

Anne Hathaway should respond to Internet criticism with a grain of salt.  I know I do and I’m the one who writes it.  There was a huge response to the reveal of her outfit in The Dark Knight Rises even though A) there was no context, B) we don’t know if it’s the outfit she wears the entire movie, and C) we don’t even know if she’s really “Catwoman” in this movie or just Selina Kyle with a skin-tight outfit.  But she has been reading the Interwebs and she tells MTV, “If you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do. And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste.”  I didn’t even know we had seen a 10th of what the suit can do.  Is making Hathaway look hot count towards the suit’s abilities?  Can’t any outfit do that?

Again, it’s important to remember that Nolan doesn’t really care about pre-conceived notions of these characters.  He pulls from multiple comics and also brings in new elements.  But I do thank Ms. Hathaway for fueling the speculation fires about what the other 90% of her suit can do.  Hit the jump for video of Hathaway’s response to the criticism about her outfit.
