For those who like their action pics packed with extra brawn, The Tomb is shaping up to be your kind of flick. The long-in-development actioner has seen Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and Arnold Schwarzenegger circle the lead role over the years, with Stallone finally signing on last October. We recently heard that Stallone was talking with his pal Schwarzenegger about joining the film in a different role, and today that news has been confirmed as both Stallone and Schwarzenegger are set to star. Stallone plays Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. Breslin is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own master design, and must now figure out how to break out (shouldn’t be too difficult if he designed the damn building). Hit the jump for more, including details on Schwarzenegger’s character.

The prison escape drama The Tomb has quite the casting history. Bruce Willis was initially set to star in the film for director Antoine Fuqua, but eventually dropped out. After Willis left the project, Arnold Schwarzenegger was considering it as a possible comeback film. When Schwarzenegger chose The Last Stand as his post-Governator pic, Sylvester Stallone signed on to star as Ray Breslin, an authority on high security prisons who is framed and incarcerated in a master prison that he designed himself. In a serendipitous development, sources now tell Harry over at AICN that Schwarzenegger is actually circling and discussing with Stallone the possibility of coming onboard in a different role.
The plot concerns Stallone’s character trying to escape the prison, so Schwarzenegger could possibly play a fellow inmate or the man who put Stallone in prison in the first place. Either way, this 80s action star team-up is quite the intriguing prospect. The film is currently without a director, but if Schwarzenegger does indeed sign on Summit will likely want to get things moving quickly. The Governator is set to move on to the supernatural actioner Black Sands after he wraps The Last Stand.

In October, we reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be following up The Expendables 2 with the action flick Black Sands. Schwarzenegger was reportedly set to play “a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army in the Southwest.” Now the former California governor says there’s a supernatural element in the plot as well. Speaking to TheArnoldFans (via The Playlist), Schwarzenegger says “I’m a kind of angel. I cannot currently say more about this film.” TheArnoldFans add that the movie, now titled Black Sunday, is a cross between Commando and Constantine. What does that mean? My guess: His character and Alyssa Milano happily feeding demonic deer on a fiery hellscape. Or maybe it’s like End of Days, and who didn’t like that film? (Everyone).
Filming on Black Sunday is set to begin on April 1, 2012. Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy will direct. Schwarzenegger will be seen next summer in The Expendables 2. He also stars in The Last Stand, which opens January 18, 2013.

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for The Expendables 2, directed by Simon West (The Mechanic). It’s a teaser that doesn’t get into plot, or even showcase any major action. At this early stage, with over 9 months to go until the August 17 release, the film is selling itself entirely on the reputation of the cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
If you are interested in the plot, the studio also unveiled the first official synopsis for The Expendables 2 along with a new promo poster. See it all after the jump.

New set photos have gone online for the 1940s crime drama Gangster Squad, and for Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s comeback film The Last Stand. Back in September, we saw Gangster Squad set photos of co-stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone enjoying a lovely day in the park. The new set photos show Stone and co-star Sean Penn sharing a scene, and Stone looks particularly glamorous. I’m a big fan of the setting, and the costumes look terrific.
And some costumes look a little stranger. The first set photo from Kim Ji-Woon‘s The Last Stand shows Schwarzenegger along with co-stars Luis Guzman, Johnny Knoxville, and Jaimie Alexander. I’m not sure why Alexander and Schwarzenegger are holding tommy guns if the film is set in the present day, but I’m even more confused by Knoxville’s outfit. It looks like a modified version of Kang-ho Song’s costume from Ji-Woon’s The Good, the Bad, the Weird. While I work out my bafflement, hit the jump to check out the set photos. Gangster Squad opens October 19, 2012. The Last Stand opens January 18, 2013.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back, ladies and gentlemen. After announcing a return to acting following his tenure as Governor of California, Schwarzenegger chose the action film The Last Stand as his comeback project. Soon thereafter, he agreed to reprise his role in The Expendables 2 with pals Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis, and now he’s chosen his follow-up project. Deadline reports that The Governator is set to star in the action pic Black Sands, which is said to be a cross between Man on Fire and High Plains Drifter. The stunt coordinator-turned-director duo of Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy are onboard to direct, with a script from Skip Woods (The A-Team).
Schwarzenegger will play “a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army in the Southwest.” Coincidentally (or not, depending on how you look at it), Schwarzenegger also plays a loner taking on a bunch of bad guys in The Last Stand. Waugh and McCoy recently directed Act of Valor, the action film starring active-duty Navy SEALs. You can watch the Call of Duty-esque trailer for that film right here to get a sense of their style. Production on Black Sands is set to begin April 1st, 2012.

Filming has begun on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comeback film The Last Stand and the movie has added two more actors to its cast. Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker and masochist Johnny Knoxville have signed on to Kim Jee-Woon’s crime drama. Schwarzenegger will play sheriff of a sleepy border town who serves as the last line of defense against a drug cartel leader (Eduardo Noriega) headed for the Mexican border. Harry Dean Stanton, Rodrigo Santoro, and Luis Guzman have also been announced to co-star.
There’s currently no word on who any of the supporting actors other than Noriega will play. Whitaker recently signed on to star in the voodoo thriller Vipka, and Knoxville will co-star with Patton Oswalt in an untitled comedy from Todd Rohal. The Last Stand also stars Harry Dean Stanton, Rodrigo Santoro, Luis Guzman, Zach Gilford, and Jaimie Alexander. Hit the jump for the press release, which includes the full synopsis.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has tweeted a photo from the set of Simon West’s The Expendables 2. Since it’s a posed set photo with his co-stars Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis, there’s no hint of how his character will factor in to the plot or if he’ll be wearing that god-awful shirt. Schwarzenegger and Willis are rumored to have larger roles than they did in the first film, but that has yet to be confirmed. There aren’t any details on the plot, but fans of the first movie will probably celebrate the threadbare story we’re likely to get. Like the first film, the movie is designed more as a dream-team of action stars, but hopefully the sequel won’t waste them.
Hit the jump to check out the set photo. The film also stars Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris. Donnie Yen and John Travolta are rumored to co-star. The Expendables 2 is due out August 17, 2012.

Although Director Justin Lin (Fast Five) is still enthusiastic about the Terminator reboot, a scheduling conflict has arisen that may temporarily terminate his involvement. The Terminator franchise rights holder, Megan Ellison, is looking to start production on the first of two new installments by the last quarter of 2012. Since Lin’s The Fast and the Furious 6 has a release date of May 2013, his schedule doesn’t jive. However, if Ellison and Arnold Schwarzenegger can hold off on production until Lin is finished, there’s a chance he may still be involved.
The timeline doesn’t look all that rushed as reports indicate that Ellison has yet to acquire a script or, for that matter, a screenwriter. No studios have signed on though several have expressed interest. However, there is a minor cause for concern: due to a series of legal trickeries and copyright speak, James Cameron will actually regain the rights to the franchise in 2018. Hopefully Ellison and company can get a couple of installments churned out before then. Hit the jump for what you can expect from a Terminator reboot.

Only a few days removed from being confirmed for a “substantial role” in The Expendables 2, the former Governator is making casting headlines once again. Deadline reports that Schwarzenegger is in talks to join the indie action thriller Captive from writers Benjamin van der Veen (Che: Part Two) and Kario Salem (The Score). If the deal goes through, Captive will see Schwarzenegger take on the role of an American real estate mogul who is kidnapped and held for ransom while living in Brazil. As the story goes, while Schwarzenegger looks for a way out of the armored-truck he calls “home,” a detective works to rescue him.
Per the report, Captive was originally developed for Nicolai Fuglsig to direct. However, the filmmaker attached to helm Warner Bros.’ futuristic Robin Hood flick has now stepped aside and will work solely in an executive producer capacity. The film is currently being shipped to potential directors with the hopes of shooting next year. As for Arnold, in addition to The Expendables 2 and potentially Captive, the actor is also starring in the Kim Jee-Woon western The Last Stand as a former LAPD officer who resides to patrolling a sleepy border town following an incident that crippled his partner.

While we reported back in July that a number of action movie big-shots were rumored to be joining Sylvester Stallone and Co. in the sequel to 2010’s The Expendables, it was unknown which actors would actually sign on to the movie. Well, now comes confirmation that the two biggest names on the list, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, are set to reprise their roles from the first flick. Deadline reports that the actors, who had cameos in the original, will appear in “substantial” roles for The Expendables 2.
No other details are given as to the nature of Schwarzenegger and Willis’ involvement, but it sounds like they’ll be getting considerably more screen time. Simon West is directing the follow-up, which may or may not be shooting in China. Stallone is joined by returning cast members Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Terry Crews. Chuck Norris, John Travolta, Donnie Yen, and Jean-Claude Van Damme are other rumored additions. The Expendables 2 opens August 17, 2012.

Thank the Maker for YouTube. With the advent of the video-on-demand digital age, no longer is that TV movie role that Actor X did when he was 11-years-old lost forever, and now someone’s put together a compilation of 25 “before they were famous” first roles for our viewing pleasure. Did you know that Daniel Craig was in A Kid in King Arthur’s Court? How about Joseph Gordon-Levitt on Roseanne or Jake Gyllenhaal in City Slickers? No need to hit up Netflix, some choice scenes are now all in one place.
Hit the jump to watch the montage, which includes 25 sometimes painful scenes featuring Jim Carrey, Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, Ryan Gosling, Keanu Reeves, Nicole Kidman, Seth Rogen, Jake Gyllenhaal, Harrison Ford and more.

Following the (surprising) critical and (not so surprising) commercial success of Fast Five, director Justin Lin has been mentioned among many director shortlists for some of Hollywood’s biggest projects, and recently found himself attached to the next film in the Terminator franchise. While one might surmise that Lin would strike while the iron’s hot and move on to another high profile franchise, looks as though the director’s follow-up to Fast Five will actually be the sixth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise (which just recently got a release date of May 2013).
Terminator fans need not fret though, as Lin is still working on Arnold Schwarzenegger-starred film. In fact, the director just recently met with Schwarzenegger and James Cameron to talk a bit about the franchise. Hit the jump for more details, including why Lin turned down the directing job of Die Hard 5.

In the career of Arnold Schwarzenegger, it’s fair to say he’s had two great roles: The Terminator – the unstoppable killing machine that eventually turns kind of good – and Conan the Barbarian. The Austrian born bodybuilder wanted to become a Hollywood star, and was very smart about building his career, but those early films were where he shined brightest. The two Conan films have now hit Blu-ray, and it’s fun to go back and watch him do what he did best. Our reviews of the Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer Blu-rays follow after the jump.

Filming on the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s 2010 all-star action movie The Expendables is set to begin in September, and now rumors are starting to swirl about what action heavyweights will be along for the ride this time around. Shooting will be taking place in Bulgaria, and the CEO of Bulgaria-based NU Boyana studios David Varod recently dropped some huge names when listing the cast for The Expendables 2 to Novinite: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis.
We expected Stallone, Statham, Lundgren and Rourke to return, but this is the first time we’ve heard of Travolta, Norris and Vam Damme’s involvement (Stallone has been wanting Schwarzenegger and Willis to return for a while). However, just because Varod listed them off doesn’t mean all of these actors mentioned are definitely in the film. Hit the jump for more.
