Coming off of the 2011 film adaptation of their comic property Cowboys and Aliens, Platinum Studios is looking to set up another feature that will take viewers under the sea. A previous adaptation for Atlantis Rising had been planned with DreamWorks back in 2008 but the film rights are now back in Platinum Studios’ hands. Attached producer Mark Canton (Immortals) had the following to say about the property:
“‘Atlantis Rising’ has the franchise potential of ‘Men in Black,’ which I greenlit for Scott while at Sony’s Columbia TriStar. I’m looking forward to bringing it to the screen with Platinum as a dynamic, state-of-the-art action thriller.”
Atlantis Rising was originally a five-issue miniseries centering on a 10,000 year old undersea civilization and their disastrous conflict with the surface world. Hit the jump to check out more on Atlantis Rising.

Len Wiseman, the man who abused his blue-filter privileges for Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, will follow up 2007′s Live Free or Die Hard with an end-of-the-world flick entitled Nocturne. According to THR, 20th Century Fox has picked up the project based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The project is currently looking for writers for what I have to say is not a bad premise.
As for Wiseman, his other potential projects, including the underwater military action flick Atlantis Rising and the futuristic war movie Shrapnel (why all the killing, Wiseman?), but doesn’t have a go picture. Wiseman has been a non-starter for some potentially major films like a remake of Escape from New York and an adaptation of the popular video game Gears of War.

Comic book publishing company Platinum Studios, not to be confused with Platinum Dunes, will be joining forces with producer Tony Krantz (“Mulholland Dr.”) to develop a live-action adaptation of the graphic novel “Mal Chance” with Scott Murphy (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, “Angel”) writing the screenplay. The graphic novel which tells the story of an assassin named Lola who has been targeted for death by a powerful gangster will be joining the recently announced “Cowboys and Aliens” as one of the new Platinum Studious properties which aim to make it to the big screen soon.
