In the drama Darling Companion, from director/co-writer/producer Lawrence Kasdan (Body Heat, The Big Chill, Silverado), Beth Winter (Diane Keaton) and her daughter (Elisabeth Moss) take home a dog that they find on the side of the freeway, much to the ire of her husband, Joseph (Kevin Kline). Before long, the dog, aptly named Freeway, becomes a beloved member of the family. But, when the dog bounds away into the woods after a deer, everything is thrown into crisis mode and a search party forms that ultimately ends up bringing the entire family closer together.

At the film’s press day, Collider spoke to Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer (who plays Carmen, the caretaker of the Winters’ cabin) for this exclusive interview about how she came to be a part of this film, auditioning at Lawrence and Meg Kasdan’s house, what drew her to this character, how much she enjoyed working with such an accomplished cast, and the challenge of working with dogs.  She also talked about her role as Superman’s biological mother, Lara Lor-Van, in Man of Steel, what fans can expect from this version, working with director Zack Snyder, and what types of roles she’d like to do, in the future.  Check out what she had to say after the jump:

As director Zack Snyder is in the middle of production on Man of Steel, he decided to make a last-minute casting change.  Last we checked, Julia Ormond was in talks to play Superman’s Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van.  Instead, per Deadline, Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons) will assume the role.  Zurer will start filming her scenes with Russell Crowe as Superman’s father Jor-El later this week.

Henry Cavill stars as Clark Kent/Superman; the supporting cast also features Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, and Christopher Meloni.  Snyder is working from a script by David S. Goyer, with Christopher Nolan producing.  Man of Steel opens on June 14, 2013.  Read the synopsis after the jump.

ANGELS & DEMONS Blu-ray Review

Angels and Demons movie image slice.jpg

One of the rules in the mystery thriller genre is that if you want to find your suspect for the killings, it’s probably not the obvious answer. One should be suspicious of the nice, the genteel, the physical unthreatening, and often the sexual repressed/fey types. If the idea is surprising your audience, the person in the first act cutting the brushes will probably not be the killer, unless he never shows up again, and the camera lingers (the Hunt for Red October rule). As mystery/thrillers go, Angels & Demons is perfectly competent, but never much more, and the person most likely to be the ringleader is evident if the rules above are paid attention to. My review of the Angels and Demons Blu-ray after the jump.
