In the aftermath of last year’s holiday dud The Guilt Trip, it’s difficult imagining a time when Barbra Streisand’s name was synonymous with major box office. But during the late ‘60s and ‘70s, Streisand starred in a string of massive movie hits, including Funny Girl, What’s Up, Doc? and A Star Is Born, all three of which would be considered the equivalents of a modern-day, $300 million-plus grosser after adjusting their ticket sales for inflation. (Quick, name the last time a female-starring romantic comedy or drama earned anything close to that amount, Mses. Bullock, McAdams and Witherspoon). Of course, we all know money doesn’t equal quality and, taken out of the context of its ‘70s-era success, A Star Is Born certainly stands as proof that yesterday’s milky-smooth hit can be today’s cheese-crumbled miss. Hit the jump for our review of A Star Is Born on Blu-ray.

The thing that really makes Star such a miss is Miss Streisand, who is totally miscast as Esther Hoffman, an aspiring singer-songwriter whose love life blossoms and musical career takes off after she meets the successful and self-destructive singer John Norman Howard, played by the ever-bearded and weathered Kris Kristofferson. By the time Miss S. took the role, she was the furthest thing from a no-name underdog. In fact, she was that rare triple threat: Oscar-winning movie actress, Tony-winning stage performer, and Grammy-winning singer. Unfortunately, Streisand made the mistake of playing Esther with the confidence of, well, an established triple threat. As a result, Esther never ...

This holiday season, you can celebrate family at the movies with The Guilt Trip, which tells the story of Andy Brewster (Seth Rogen), as he embarks on a cross-country road trip with his mother, Joyce (Barbra Streisand), to turn one of his inventions into a success. With both funny and poignant moments on their mother-son adventure, each realizes that they just want the other to be happy.

During a press conference to promote the film’s December 19th theatrical release, Seth Rogen talked about sussing his co-star out before filming, how he approached playing the role, how crazy his own mother drives him and cracking up on set, while Barbra Streisand talked about what ultimately convinced her to take this role, how she most identified with her character, how she feels about being labeled as a gay icon, what gives her the greatest artistic satisfaction, the most challenging scene, what she hopes audiences will take from the film, and which technologies she’d like to consider using, if and when she ever directs again. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Question: What was it like to meet each other, the first time?

BARBRA STREISAND: Well, Seth sussed me out.

SETH ROGEN: I did.

STREISAND: He called people from The Fockers movies.

ROGEN: I think I was actually working with John Schwartzman, who was the cinematographer on Meet the Fockers, at the time this came up. I asked him what he thought of Barbra, and he said she was great. I know Jay Roach a ...

We've got two new clips to share with you from the mother of all road trip movies: The Guilt Trip, starring Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express) and Barbra Streisand (The Prince of Tides). Directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal), the Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love) script centers on an L.A.-based inventor (Rogen) who takes his recently-widowed mother (Streisand) on the road with him for a business trip in which he hopes to sell his latest idea and help rekindle his mother's love life. The Guilt Trip opens December 19th. Hit the jump to check out the clips.

Check out two new clips from The Guilt Trip below:

Here’s a synopsis for The Guilt Trip:
Andy Brewster (Seth Rogen) is an inventor who lives in Los Angeles. He’s come up with an amazing organic cleaner but can’t get anyone interested in manufacturing it.

Andy plans a business trip to promote the product and decides to take his recently-widowed mother (Barbra Streisand) along for the ride. She’s been despondent since his father died, so he comes up with a great idea—during the trip he’ll surprise her with a stop in San Francisco, where one of her ex-flames lives.

The first trailer for the road trip comedy The Guilt Trip has been released. The film stars Seth Rogen as an inventor who sets out on a business trip with his mother (Barbra Streisand) in tow. The trailer actually doesn't look half-bad, with Rogen and Streisand showing off some promising chemistry. There are a few solid jokes, and I appreciate the sweet emotional backbone that grounds the story in lieu of just having Rogen and Streisand go on a road trip with "zany adventures." Rogen's familial situation isn't uncommon (I can definitely relate), and it looks to be a nice foundation for the film's story. In the event that your family isn't keen on seeing Django Unchained this Christmas, The Guilt Trip doesn't sound like a terrible compromise.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal), the film also stars Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Scott, and Danny Pudi. The Guilt Trip opens on December 25th.

The first poster for director Anne Fletcher’s (The Proposal) road trip comedy The Guilt Trip has been released. The film stars Seth Rogen as an inventor who sets out on a business trip with his mother (Barbra Streisand) in tow. Unbeknownst to her, Rogen plans on reuniting his mother with a long lost love. We saw the first clip from the film last week, and it looks like a rather promising family comedy. Rogen will appeal to younger moviegoers, while parents will be eager to check out the new movie from Babs. The trailer is set to debut tomorrow, so we’ll have a better idea of the pic’s tone then.

Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film also stars Adam Scott, Yvonne Strahovski, Colin Hanks, Danny Pudi, Dale Dickey, and Kathy Najimy. The Guilt Trip opens on Christmas Day.

Though we have yet to see a trailer for the film, the first clip from The Guilt Trip has been released. Written by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love.), the comedy stars Seth Rogen as an inventor who sets out on a business trip with his mother (Barbra Streisand) in tow. Unbeknownst to her, Rogen plans on reuniting his mother with a long lost love. This clip features Rogen trying to convince his mother to accompany him on the 8-day road trip without giving away his true intentions. There’s not really enough footage here to judge the comedic pairing of Rogen and Streisand, but the clip definitely shows promise. Moreover, the supporting cast of Adam Scott, Yvonne Strahovski, Colin Hanks, and Danny Pudi is encouraging.

The first image from the road trip comedy The Guilt Trip (formerly My Mother’s Curse) has landed online. Directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal), the film stars Seth Rogen as an inventor who sets out on a business trip with his mother (Barbra Streisand) in tow. The comedy boasts a script from Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love.) and also stars Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) and Danny Pudi (Community). This first image isn’t much, but I’m interested to see how the interaction between Rogen and Streisand plays out. Moreover, this will probably be the movie you see with your family on Christmas Day unless you have super cool parents/grandparents who are down with Django Unchained.

Hit the jump to check out the image. The Guilt Trip opens on December 25th.

Barbra Streisand has directed as many feature films (Yentl, Prince of Tides and The Mirror Has Two Faces) as she has concerts/documentaries, but now she aims to tip the scales by returning to the director's chair for the epic love story, Skinny and Cat. Penned by Linda Yellen, Skinny and Cat tells of the true romance between author Erskine Caldwell and Margaret Bourke White, a photojournalist. Colin Firth (The King's Speech) and Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) are set to star in what will be Streisand's first feature film in 16 years. Hit the jump for more on Skinny and Cat.

The Playlist reports that Skinny and Cat is still raising funds, but should start filming in January. The picture further tells of the relatively short marriage of Caldwell and Bourke-White, as well as their collaboration on a number of books. "You Have Seen Their Faces" is a photographic survey of the South during the Great Depression (and makes a much better movie title in my humble opinion). "North of the Danube" and "Say, Is This the U.S.A.?" are two of their other collaborative works.

Most recently, Streisand was attached to star in a remake of the Broadway musical, Gypsy, to be written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey). Blanchett will next be seen in both Hobbit films, both upcoming Terrence Malick films (Knight of Cups and Lawless) and an as-of-yet untitled Woody Allen picture. Firth can be seen in this fall's Gambit, followed by The Railway Man and Devil's ...

The feature film remake of the popular Broadway musical Gypsy is back on. Over a year ago we learned that Barbra Streisand was in talks to star in an update of the Tony Award-winning musical from Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents, and today it was announced that producer Joel Silver has set Julian Fellowes to write the screenplay for the remake, with Streisand officially onboard to play Momma Rose. The musical is based on the memoirs of burlesque dancer Gypse Rose Lee and centers on Lee’s relationship with her mother, the OG “stage mom” prototype now prevalent in pop culture. Hit the jump for more on Fellowes and Gypsy.

Fellowes is currently enjoying acclaim for creating and writing the highly addictive British TV series Downton Abbey. The show has gained a fervent following in the U.S. (I’m guilty of succumbing to “Downton Fever”’), and is currently in the midst of filming season three. Fellowes won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay for the 2002 drama Gosford Park, and he recently scripted a Titanic miniseries for ITV. On the musical side of things, Fellowes adapted the script for Disney’s stage production of Mary Poppins. I’m not incredibly familiar with Gypsy, but I do find Fellowes’ work highly entertaining so hopefully Gypsy won't just be for fans of the original musical. Silver knows how to make films that are appealing to mass audiences, so I'm sure they'll be pulling out all the stops for Gypsy. The musical was previously adapted into a feature ...

Advance warning that the audio and video quality of this video is far from ideal. Nevertheless, I'm guessing that fans of the franchise are willing to sacrifice quality for what appears to be an ultra-rare outtake from the set of Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. What you'll find after the jump is a video of Barbra Streisand, Carrie Fisher, and The Empire Strikes Back's late director Irvin Kershner showing up to play a little practical joke on Harrison Ford during the scene in which Indy is being whipped by the Thuggee goon at Mola Ram's temple.
The video is reportedly from Spielberg's personal reels although there is no absolute confirmation on that front. Watch the video and read a rough transcription of it (yeah, it's that low quality) after the jump.

Two big thumbs up to Joblo for finding and attempting to transcribe this video:

Here's the rough transcription [all apologies in advance for what appears to be Streisand's last line in the video...no one around these parts supports hate speech of any kind]:

Barbra Streisand: "This is for Guns of Navarone!"
Barbra Streisand: "Guns of Navarone? No..."
Harrison Ford: "For Force Ten..."
Barbra Streisand: "For Force Ten!" (Ed. note: She mean FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE not GUNS OF THE NAVARONE.)
Barbra Streisand: "This is for Hanover Street!"
Barbra Streisand: "This is for all the money you’re going to make on Return of the Jedi!"
Harrison Ford: "Who's that?"
Carrie Fisher: "Someone who needs you!"
Irvin Kershner: "What the hell is the matter with you? Steve! Come on! ...

Paramount Pictures has scheduled the road trip comedy My Mother's Curse for release on March 30, 2012. Barbra Streisand star as a mother and son who, according to Variety, "embark on a road trip so the inventor son can sell his latest invention." Previous reports indicate the script from Dan Fogelman (Tangled) reunite Streisand with a lost love. Paramount may have actually performed the mother's curse on the last pre-Easter 2012 weekend -- as of this writing, no other film is scheduled that Friday.

Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) will direct; Fogelman, Rogen, and Streisand are producing alongside Lorne Michaels (SNL), John Goldwyn (MacGruber), Evan Goldberg (The Green Hornet), David Ellison (True Grit), Paul Schwake (Strange Wilderness), and Dana Goldberg (Yes Man). Rogen will next be heard March 18 as the titular alien in Paul, followed by Kung Fu Panda 2 on May 26. Rogen holistically returns to theaters in 50/50, which opens September 30.

Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand have signed on to star in Paramount's road-trip comedy My Mother's Curse. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) will direct the Dan Fogelman (Cars) script which pairs Rogen and the two-time Oscar-winner as mother and son. Per THR, Fogelman's script tells the story of an inventor (Rogen) who "invites his mother on a cross-country road trip as he tries to sell his new product." As the story goes, in the process, Streisand's character is also reunited with a lost love.
In addition to starring and writing respectively, Rogen, Streisand, and Fogelman will act as executive producers on My Mother's Curse alongside fellow exec. producer David Ellison. Lorne Michaels and Evan Goldberg will also act as producers on the film which is scheduled to begin shooting this spring.

If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong, but Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers seemed to do everything right about everything going wrong. They hit a familiar chord with family-oriented audiences with good ol’ values. And they were dirty about it. Both were hits in theaters and on home video, and now they’ve been erected in high-definition. It’s time once again to meet the parents and the Fockers. Welcome home. My full review is after the jump.

In the franchise opener, Meet the Parents, Greg Focker is completely in love with Pam Byrnes and views their upcoming trip to her parents' house on Long Island, where her sister is to be married during the weekend, as a perfect opportunity to ask her to marry him. But once Greg is introduced to Pam's parents, things plummet towards hell at an increasing rate. Pam's father, Jack, takes an instant and obvious dislike to his daughter's boyfriend, ridiculing him for his job as a nurse and generally making Greg painfully aware of his existence as an outsider. Things end up going from bad to worse with Greg incurring the wrath of both Pam’s family and nearly destroying the wedding (and his relationship with Pam) in the process.

Meet the Parents is a prime product of a director, writer and cast that just fit perfectly. On paper, it may have not even looked that good. Pairing a serious dramatic actor with a comedian like Ben Stiller may have sounded like a risk. Yet ...

Here's a little news for all the diehard Barbra Streisand fans who also happen to frequent Collider (I know you're out there...somewhere...): the two-time Oscar-winner/eight-time Grammy-winner is in early negotiations with Warner Bros. to star in a remake of the 1962 film adaptation of the Broadway play Gypsy. While the project is currently without a writer and/or director, Streisand would star as Rose (the role turned by Rosalind Russell in the 1962 adaptation) if a deal is indeed struck.
For those unfamiliar with Gypsy (much like myself only one half-hour ago), both the play and the first film are based on the memoir of burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee. Per THR, each iteration focuses on Lee's relationship with her mother, Rose (Streisand), who has "since become the prototype of a 'stage mom' in pop culture."

Since the 1970's, Robert De Niro has made countless films. While some have clearly missed the mark, a few of them are considered classics in every sense of the word. Some of my favorites are Goodfellas, Heat, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Godfather Part 2, and Righteous Kill. Kidding with that last one.

However, while he's made some amazing films, not all of them have been box office hits. In fact, you might be surprised to learn that his two biggest hits were not made with Martin Scorsese, but with Ben Stiller. While some might dismiss Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, Parents made $166 million (worldwide) and Fockers made $280 million (worldwide). With this kind of money, it's no surprise Universal made a third entry (called Little Fockers) and it gets released December 22.

Anyway, Universal has released 6 clips and a number of new images from the film. Check them out after the jump - along with the official synospis:

Here's the synopsis:
The test of wills between Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro) and Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) escalates to new heights of comedy in the third installment of the blockbuster series—Little Fockers. Laura Dern, Jessica Alba and Harvey Keitel join the returning all-star cast for a new chapter of the worldwide hit franchise.

It has taken 10 years, two little Fockers with wife Pam (Polo) and countless hurdles for Greg to finally get “in” with his tightly wound father-in-law, Jack. After the cash-strapped dad takes a job moonlighting for a drug ...

A new trailer for Little Fockers has made its way online. Featuring an ensemble of talents including Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Teri Polo, Blythe Danner, Owen Wilson, Jessica Alba, and Harvey Keitel, the film marks the third installment in the Meet the Parents series. Directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie) and penned by scribes John Hamburg and Larry Stuckey, Little Fockers tells the story of Jack Byrnes (De Niro) prepping Greg Focker (Stiller) for the role of Byrnes family patriarch. Admittedly, none of the Meet the Parents films have been, nor will ever be, earth-shatteringly great. That said, they almost always succeed in making me laugh and, honestly, I won't ask any more of them.
In addition to the trailer, after the jump you'll also find a slew of new images from the film that were sent our way earlier today. Little Fockers hits theaters on December 22nd.

A major Paramount document detailing a host of the studio's upcoming projects may have leaked last night. The e-mail in question provides info on a slew of potential films from the studio including Kathryn Bigelow's Triple Frontier, Jason Reitman's Young Adult, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe 2, World War Z, and a whole lot more. Hit the jump for the list along with added notes for what we already know.

The list comes via The Wrap. However, it's important to note that a Paramount spokesman told the website that "It has some correct information and some inaccurrate information." I haven't listed every single project, but you'll find most of them below.

Here are some films they list as a priority:

TRIPLE FRONTIER: Paramount likes screenwriter Mark Boal's draft and they're looking to get the film into production by December. Bigelow has been meeting with Sean Penn, Will Smith, Javier Bardem, and Christian Bale for the ensemble cast. We reported in April that Bardem, Penn, and Denzel Washington were rumored for roles in the film. Boal last collaboration with Bigelow was The Hurt Locker, and that worked out pretty well for everyone.

YOUNG ADULT: Paramount is in negotiations to pick this up and they're aiming for an October/November start date. Young Adult is Jason Reitman's follow-up to Up in the Air (which was also at Paramount). Diablo Cody wrote the script and Charlize Theron will star.

WORLD WAR Z: The love screenwriter Matthew Michael Carnahan's latest draft. Brad Pitt is attached to star and Marc ...
