If you told me I had to choose between Christopher Nolan’s Batman films and the 1990s Batman: The Animated Series, I would choose the latter every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I don’t think Nolan’s films are bad, but their stubborn adherence to “reality” and severe distaste for anything comics-related makes them pale to the diversity of tone and imagination the Animated Series was able to accomplish. Granted, Nolan has only three movie to tell his story while B:TAS had hours upon hours, but I think TAS has a better tone overall.
Now I guess I can have the best of both worlds as someone took the audio from recent The Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer and played it over similar footage from the animated series, Justice League Unlimited, and Under the Red Hood. The editor was unable to find footage from the animated series of Batman destroying Gotham in order to make his logo. Hit the jump to check out the remixed trailer.

Creating your own comic book character usually includes a list of “cool” abilities and features like claws, levitation, laser eyes, and a great costume. When Conan O’Brien got his chance to create his own comic book character, he went typical Conan: goofy. Bruce Timm, co-creator and character designer of Batman: The Animated Series and more, gave O’Brien the royal treatment by drawing The Flaming C. However, Timm didn’t stop there. In the latest episode of The Conan O’Brien Show, they premiered footage of The Flaming C spliced into the pilot episode of Cartoon Network’s awesome new series, Young Justice, and hilarity ensues. There’s a simple formula for taking material and translating it to a different medium – involve people who not only know the work, but also love it. I’m not sure how this very simple dictum escapes Hollywood, but all too often it seems to. Thankfully, we have shining examples like Superman: The Animated Series to show us how it works. More after the jump.

Who would have thought that “Batman: Arkham Asylum, the latest Batman videogame in series which has fallen notoriously short on its trips to home consoles, would come up as one of the best-reviewed and best-selling games of 2009 when it made its next-gen debut on XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3? Well, I did. I watched all the trailers, knew that the story was by Paul Dini, that Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy were coming back as The Joker and Batman, respectively, and that this would be the first adaptation to actually take advantage of Batman’s abilities beyond his fighting skills and the darkness of the character’s attitude which sets him apart from all the other big-name superheroes.
“Batman: Arkham Asylum” is better than every Batman adaptation including “The Dark Knight”. Hit the jump to find out why before your brain explodes.
