The first unofficial images of Denzel Washington, shiny of tooth and spiffy of hat, on the set of 2 Guns have made it to the Web. Based on the pulpy Steven Grant comic, it stars Washington as Trench (a DEA agent) and Mark Wahlberg as Steadman (a naval officer), who team up to rip off the mob. Neither realizes the other is undercover nor that they’re actually being set up to steal from the CIA. Wahlberg’s Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur is helming the pic, which is described (in the novel, at least) as “a light-hearted crime romp in the vein of Ocean’s Thirteen and The Italian Job.” The solid supporting cast includes Edward James Olmos as a villainous drug lord, Paula Patton as Washington’s fellow DEA agent and love interest, Bill Paxton as a high-ranking CIA operative and James Marsden as a naval commander. The script comes from Blake Masters (Showtime’s Brotherhood). Hit the jump to check out the pics.

Blake Masters (Law & Order: LA) has signed on to rewrite a remake of the 1970 sci-fi film Colossus: The Forbin Project for Universal. There’s no word on the timeline of Masters’ re-telling (simply entitled Colossus), but director Joseph Sargent’s original pic was set during the Cold War and centered on a pair of supercomputers (one belonging to the United States and the other belonging to Russia) that swap top secret national defense secrets with one another. As the story goes, the rival countries are forced to work together so as to stop the computers from taking control of their respective war arms. Per Variety, Brian Grazer will produce the film via Imagine Entertainment with Erica Huggins and David J. Collins on board as co-producers.
As for Masters, the scribe has previously worked on television series’ such as Rubicon and Brotherhood. He also penned a script for Universal’s 2 Guns starring Vince Vaughn. Before Masters’ arrival, Jason Rothenberg had penned an earlier draft of Colossus. Colossus was originally adapted from the 1966 D.F. Jones novel of the same name. Jones went on to write a pair of Colossus books entitled The Fall of Colossus (1974) and Colossus and the Crab (1977).

Wedding Crashers co-stars Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson could reunite for 2 Guns. Vaughn is already attached, and Wilson is said to be eying the other lead role. Pajiba provides a brief outline for the action film:
“[2 Guns] follows two lawmen, neither of whom realizes the other is a ‘good guy,’ as they plot to rob a bank together, having been assigned to do so by their employers, and then must figure out who the dirty money belongs to as their respective agencies try to hunt them down.”

The script is credited to TV writer Blake Masters, creator of the Showtime mob drama Brotherhood — he’s currently working with Dick Wolf on procedural spinoff Law & Order: Los Angeles. Universal has yet to secure a director, so we’ll see how this one shapes up in the coming weeks. Looking at their live-action resume since Wedding Crashers — You, Me and Dupree, Fred Claus, Drillbit Taylor, Couples Retreat, etc. — this doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.
