DC chief/comic writer Geoff Johns first teased the development of a live-action Blue Beetle television series in June. Since then we’ve seen stills from the test footage, and even a few isolated seconds of video, but nothing too substantial.
DC played the entire clip — depicting the Blue Beetle scarab transforming young Jaime Reyes — for an audience at Comic-Con, and have since posted it to Youtube. The future of the Blue Beetle on TV is still uncertain, but if you find such a possibility intriguing, you should definitely check out the clip after the jump.

We’ve got a couple clips to share from non-cinematic comic projects in development. T’Challa (aka The Black Panther) is getting a animated (er, “motion comic”) series titled Black Panther: Who is the Black Panther?. The first of twelve episodes premieres June 23 on iTunes, Xbox Live, Microsoft Zune, and the PlayStation Network, and we’ve got a trailer to prove it.
On a related note, when we posted stills from the test footage for a live-action Blue Beetle series, commenter Drew quite rightly opined that he “would need to see it in motion to fully realize it.” Well, Drew, you’re in luck: we have a short clip of just that alongside the Black Panther trailer after the jump. BLUE BEETLE NEWS from DCE!! We have a live-action test of Jaime Reyes’ scarab activating his suit. It. Is. Awesome… we’re hoping to develop a live-action show. Fingers crossed!
The word choice (“hoping to develop”) indicates that it’s still very early in the process, but exciting news nonetheless. Despite the comic book boom in film, adaptation of heroes to live-action television series has been scarce, save for Smallville and perhaps Human Target. Johns also promises that Blue Beetle will continue to make several appearances the upcoming season of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Hit the jump for a character biography.
