Fox’s Fall 2012 Schedule: GLEE Moves to Thursdays; Mindy Kaling’s New Series Joins NEW GIRL and RAISING HOPE on Tuesdays for Comedy Block

Yesterday we got a look at what NBC will be offering by way of scheduling and new series this fall, and now Fox has announced their upcoming 2012 schedule.  As far as shifts for returning series go, the Kiefer Sutherland drama Touch has been moved to Fridays, while Ryan Murphy’s Glee (which has been on a ratings downslide as of late) has been put in the post-X Factor/American Idol slot on Thursday nights.  Moreover, the network announced that Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson will be doing guest star arcs on Glee for the show’s upcoming fourth season.

As far as new shows go, The Office star Mindy Kaling’s new show, currently titled The Mindy Project (hopefully a temporary title), and the new ensemble comedy Ben and Kate will join Raising Hope and the hit Zooey Deschanel series New Girl on Tuesdays for an all-comedy night.  I’m a huge fan of New Girl and I’m hoping The Mindy Project will be a nice companion show.  Another high profile new series, Kevin Williamson’s serial killer show The Following starring Kevin Bacon, has been slated to premiere at midseason.  Hit the jump to get a look at the full Fox schedule.

Fox Announces 2011-2012 Midseason Premiere Dates for TOUCH, ALCATRAZ, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and More

Midseason is just around the corner, and now Fox is chiming in with their premiere dates for new and returning series. First of all, let’s just get this out of the way, the reality competition giant American Idol will return for its eleventh season on Wednesday, January 18th and 8/7c and Thursday January 19th at the same time.

Now let’s get on with the real series starting with Kiefer Sutherland’s return to Fox with Touch from Heroes creator Tim Kring debuting on Wednesday, January 25th at 9/8c. That’s a prime slot right after an airing of American Idol too. However, the series run won’t actually start until Monday, March 19th at 9/8c. For more premiere dates and times for shows like Alcatraz, Breaking In, The Finder, Napoleon Dynamite and returning shows like New Girl and Glee, hit the jump.

Fox Orders Nine More Episodes of BOB’S BURGERS

The second season of the animated comedy Bob’s Burgers won’t return until next spring, but Fox has already decided to order nine more episodes for the series’ sophomore run. In a press release from the network, some of the antics coming next season will see Bob (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) and the family test-drive the food truck industry, dive into the world of synchronized swimming, search for treasure in an abandoned taffy factory and get tied up with a very needy bank robber. There’s also some fantastic guest stars providing their voices this season including Kevin Kline and Sarah Silverman. Comic-Con 2011: Schedule for Friday, July 22nd; Includes THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, FRIGHT NIGHT, and THE WALKING DEAD

If you thought Thursday was crazy at Comic-Con, then the schedule for Friday will make your brain break apart. There were some high profile panels on Thursday, but Friday it’s non-stop. Sony is looking to own the day with their 90-minute panel for Total Recall, 30 Minutes or Less, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and The Amazing Spider-Man. Hall H will also be hosting presentations for The Adventures of Tintin, Raven, Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, Underworld 4, Batman: Year One, Pacific Rim, Seventh Son, Paradise Lost, Mass Effect, and Fright Night.

The TV side is also on overdrive with a pilot screening of Locke & Key, and panels for The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory, Children’s Hospital, Bones, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, The River, Black Dynamite, Eureka, Bob’s Burgers, Falling Skies, ThunderCats, Robot Chicken, Ugly Americans, Warehouse 13, and True Blood. BOB’S BURGERS Renewed for Second Season

After enjoying the hell out of the pilot earlier this year, I’m pleased to report that Fox’s new animated comedy Bob’s Burgers has just been picked up for a second season. The show had been on the bubble of being renewed, but EW speculates that in addition to Fox’s Animation Domination line-up, their other upcoming projects like the Napoleon Dynamite animated series and a new animated comedy series called Allen Gregory from Jonah Hill (both of which were revealed last October) imply that animation could be on other nights besides Sunday. Either way, it’s just good to hear that the kitchen at Bob’s Burgers will still be serving up the laughs.

BOB’S BURGERS Series Premiere Review

It might be hard to believe that an animated series is hitting Fox without a previous network name involved. This time around the new addition to Animation Domination doesn’t come from Matt Groening (The Simpsons and Futurama), Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, American Dad) or Mike Judge (King of the Hill). Loren Bouchard (creator of Home Movies) is behind Bob’s Burgers, a comedy that follows Bob and his questionably sanitary burger joint that also employs his wife and three young children. Though the pilot sees the burger join itself in jeopardy of being shut down, there’s plenty of reasons to want Bob’s Burgers to stay open for business and serve up even more laughter. FRINGE Moves to Friday as FOX Announces Midseason Series Premieres for MIXED SIGNALS, BOB’S BURGERS, BREAKING IN and AMERICAN IDOL

Today Fox became the second network to announce their schedule changes for current running series and premiere dates for the new midseason series hitting the air next year. First up, the biggest and most worrisome change comes in the form of J.J. Abrams sci-fi procedural Fringe being pushed to Fridays in 2011. As many TV buffs know, a Friday air date is usually the beginning of the end for any series, and since Fringe hasn’t been faring as well as it used to in the ratings, this definitely isn’t a good sign.
