Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer and poster for director David E. Talbert’s (First Sunday) romantic comedy Baggage Claim.  The film stars Paula Patton as an unmarried flight attendant who becomes determined to find a man before her younger sister’s wedding.  In order to aid her on her quest, her friends at the airport arrange several of her ex-boyfriends to cross her path.  Though the “I need a man to make me feel whole” premise is rather played out and at least a little offensive, Baggage Claim actually looks like it has a few genuine laughs in store for audiences.  Also, Adam Brody plays the “gay best friend” character, so there’s that.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Derek Luke, Taye Diggs, Jill Scott, Boris Kodjoe, Trey Songz, Tia Mowry, LaLa Anthony, and Djimon HounsouBaggage Claim opens on September 27th.

Recently seen battling the unded in Resident Evil: Retribution, Boris Kodjoe will next battle sex-addiction in the Lionsgate drama, Addicted.  Paul Hall will produce with Bille Woodruff (Honey) attached to direct.  The picture centers on a supposedly happily-married mother of three children who satisfies her sex addiction by sleeping around.  Sex addiction tales seem to be a trend on the rise (Shame, Thank You For Sharing), all paving the way to the inevitable Fifty Shades of Grey. Variety’s report shares no details as to Kodjoe’s role, so it’s unclear as to which side of the addiction he will be on.  Kodjoe can next be seen in another film that deals with infidelity in brutal ways in director Douglas Aarniokoski’s Nurse 3-D.

In the spirit of TIFF 2012 winding down this weekend, I’m interested in hearing what some of our readers most anticipated pics coming out of the festival are. For me, I was already psyched for films such as Looper, Cloud Atlas, and The Master, but early buzz has also peaked my interest in The Place Beyond the Pines, End of Watch, Spring Breakers, Iceberg Slim: Portrait of a Pimp, Dredd 3D, and At Any Price among others. What about you? Where there films that showed up on your radar while following the festival? What about a film you were looking forward to that you were disappointed didn’t fare quite as well as you had hoped (for me, this was Passion)? Let us know in the comments and be sure to check out this week’s fifth spot for a link that can help you get caught up on all of our TIFF 2012 coverage.

In addition to that fifth spot, also on the docket for this week’s Top 5 is a slew of video interviews for Paul W. S. Anderson‘s Resident Evil: Retribution, the first full trailer for Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln, James Cameron talking the future of Avatar and what his take on Jurassic Park would have been like, and Steve’s video interviews with some of the major names behind Finding Nemo 3D. Brief recaps and links to each lie after the jump.

First Full Trailer for RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION

by     Posted: June 14th, 2012 at 8:55 am

We posted a teaser trailer for the fifth installment of the Resident Evil franchise back in January, but now the first full trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution has landed.  I’ve only ever seen the first film in the series, so I’m all kinds of confused by this trailer for the fifth installment.  That said, action looks to be front and center here and I doubt Resident Evil fans will be disappointed by this trailer.  Moreover, this new film brings back at least a few cast members that perished earlier in the series so Retribution may act as sort of a throwback for diehard fans.  If you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage, including interviews with director Paul W.S. Anderson and the cast, click here.

Resident Evil: Retribution stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Kevin Durand, Boris Kodjoe, Shawn Roberts, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb and Li Bingbing. RE5 opens September 14th.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Unlike some of the other returning characters from the previous Resident Evil films, Boris Kodjoe survived in the last film (Resident Evil: Afterlife).  So when we asked him on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution last month when he find out that he’d be coming back as Luther West, he told us, “I guess two years ago when I read the script and found out that I didn’t die. That was pretty clear then.”  During the rest of the interview, Kodjoe talked to us about what fans can expect in the fifth film, the action scenes, the gunplay, the fans, what filming in Toronto has been like, and so much more.  Hit the jump to either read or listen to what he had to say.

UNDERCOVERS Series Premiere Review

by     Posted: September 22nd, 2010 at 11:12 am

With hits like Alias, Fringe and of course Lost under his belt, it appears Bad Robot mastermind J.J. Abrams can do no wrong. But how does the popular filmmaker take a concept that has been driven into the ground with mediocre romantic comedies like Killers and Date Night or already somewhat explored by NBC’s other action comedy spy series Chuck? The answer is very carefully and with moderate success.

Steven and Samantha Bloom (played respectively by Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) are struggling through debt with their catering business until grizzly old Agent Carlton Shaw (Gerald McRaney) reluctantly sits them down for a proposal to help locate missing CIA agent Leo Nash (Carter MacIntyre), who also happens to be one of their good friends. With a marriage that has somewhat lost its spark (though certainly not its true love), the only way to spice thing up under the covers may be to become Undercovers all over again. Find out how The Bloom’s fare on their first mission after the jump.

Boris Kodjoe Interview UNDERCOVERS

by     Posted: September 18th, 2010 at 1:44 pm

The NBC series Undercovers is a sexy, fun, action-packed spy drama from writer/producer/director J.J. Abrams and executive producer/writer Josh Reims. As far as their family and friends are concerned, Steven Bloom (Boris Kodjoe) and his wife Samantha (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) are a typical married couple with their own catering company in Los Angeles. But secretly, the duo were two of the best spies the CIA had ever known, until they retired five years ago. Now, they’ve been reinstated by their old boss, Carlton Shaw (Gerald McRaney), to locate and rescue a fellow spy who has gone missing.

In a recent interview, actor Boris Kodjoe talked about what a dream come true it is for him to play this role, how much he enjoys getting to do his own stunts, and what an honor it is to be the lead on one of the most-anticipated series of the Fall TV season. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Boris Kodjoe Video Interview RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE; Plus an Update on NBC’s UNDERCOVERS

by     Posted: September 7th, 2010 at 8:20 am

Zombies have overrun Los Angeles.  And in Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Afterlife, they’re more than just metaphorically undead.  Newcomer to the merry band of zombie fighting survivors is Boris Kodjoe as Luther West.  At the press junket for Resident Evil: Afterlife, Kodjoe heaped praise upon director Paul W.S. Anderson and then rest of the cast. He also talked a bit about his upcoming role in J.J. Abrams’ Undercovers.  Hit the jump to watch what he had to say:

NBC Picks up the J.J. Abrams Spy Drama UNDERCOVERS for Fall 2010

by     Posted: May 3rd, 2010 at 3:12 pm

In a bit of a no-brainer, NBC has picked up the high profile pilot for the spy drama Undercovers for their fall 2010 schedule. Co-created by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and Josh Reims (Brothers and Sisters), Undercovers nabbed the first official season order among the broadcast networks after riding high on a wave of good buzz throughout pilot season.  The Abrams-directed pilot opens on a married couple who currently run a small L.A. catering company, but fell in love when they were two of the CIA’s finest spies; Boris Kodjoe (Soul Food) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Doctor Who) star.

Given the Abrams pedigree, expectations are high for a network who could use a savior next season.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a two hour block of spy-related awesomeness (i.e. Chuck at 8:00, Undercovers at 9:00) when the full schedule is announced in a couple weeks.  Hit the jump for the official press release.
