Brendan Gleeson and Abbie Cornish to Star in Brad Siberling’s Thriller AN ORDINARY MAN

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything about director Brad Silberling’s (Moonlight Mile) low-budget thriller An Ordinary Man, but it was announced today that Radiant Films International will be handling international distribution, and Brendan Gleeson and Abbie Cornish (Limitless) are attached to star.  The contemporary suspense tale “centers on the unexpected relationship between a fictitious war criminal in hiding, and his only human contact—his maid.”  It sounds like an intimate character drama, and Gleeson tends to shine in small, dialogue driven scenes.

Cornish made waves with her performance in 2009’s Bright Star and recently wrapped In Bruges director Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths opposite Colin Farrell.  Silberling most recently directed the adaptation of Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell.  Production on An Ordinary Man is set to begin this fall in Belgrade, Serbia.  Hit the jump to read the full press release.

LAND OF THE LOST Review

I don’t blame Universal for trying to sell “Land of the Lost” as a family film.  This is a big-budget summer movie based on a campy 70s TV show and so you’re going to highlight the T-Rex and maybe Will Ferrell dumping a vat of dinosaur urine over his head.  What you won’t highlight is a scene where Ferrell’s character whispers to Cha-Ka the ape-boy, “Fuck you.”  It’s clear that this movie was conceived of as a subversive, R-rated comedy and Universal said, “Are you bugfuck insane?  We’re not spending a hundred million dollars on that!” The compromise is a film that you’re not expecting even if you can totally predict its lead actor.

Exclusive – Director Brad Silberling says the LAND OF THE LOST DVD/Blu-ray Will Have 35 Minutes of Deleted Scenes

Opening this Friday is director Brad Silberling’s “Land of the Lost”. As most of you already know, the film is based on the classic series by Sid & Marty Krofft and it stars Will Ferrell as Dr. Rick Marshall and Danny McBride, Anna Friel, and Jorma Taccone also star.

I saw a screening and have to say…it’s a lot dirtier than I expected. In fact, I was quite surprised at how much they got away with for a PG-13 movie. If you thought this was just going to be some safe family film, you’re in for a surprise.

So to help promote the film, I recently interviewed director Brad Silberling as a reporter for our partner website Omelete. As most of you know, Collider and Omelete are partners. That’s why you see both of our logos in the movie clips and the video interviews. So a big thanks to them for making this happen.

Anyway, during my interview Brad revealed that the DVD/Blu-ray will have 35 minutes of deleted scenes and that he’ll eventually release an extended edition down the road. He also talked about how he worked with the MPAA to make sure the movie would get a PG-13 and a lot more. Take a look after the jump:

Director Brad Silberling Says a LEMONY SNICKET’S Sequel Is Not Out Of The Question

Way back in 2004 the hottest new franchise opportunities for Hollywood studios came via successful children’s books – preferably, books having to do with wizards, witches or some combination of the two.  To these ends, Paramount/Dreamworks snapped up the rights to the darkly comic “Lemony Snicket’s” series of 14 books, and then combined the first three of these into the film “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events”.  The plan was to make more of these films, but that plan went awry when the movie only brought in $118 million domestically off of a $140 million budget.  “Harry Potter” it wasn’t.

So color me surprised to hear that a “Lemony Snicket’s” sequel is still being discussed.  Cinefools hit the “Land of the Lost” premier and put the question of a Count Olaf resurrection to director Brad Silberling:

“I actually think it’s going to see the light of day.”

Silberling went on to say that plans for a sequel became “mired” in the studio politics of the Paramount/Dreamworks split but that he would “love nothing more than to do that…” A sequel, he means  I am actually a big fan of “Lemony Snicket’s” – both the books and the film – so I would love nothing more than to see Brad Silberling get this project back on track… well, nothing more may be a bit of an overstatement.  I’m still waiting for an Edward Gorey to movie to come out…
