The latest trailer for the World War II film Red Tails finally has found the right balance between drama and action.  The movie is based on the real-life story of the first all African-American squadron and their fight to defend our country.  They were given second-hand planes and the most dangerous missions, and it makes their story all the more incredible.  The new trailer is the most exciting so far because it while it still has the grandiose language, it feels more comfortable when couched in an exciting action film (and that action looks spectacular).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film was produced by George Lucas and stars Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Bryan Cranston, Brandon T. Jackson, and Nate ParkerRed Tails opens January 20, 2012.

New Trailer for RED TAILS

A new trailer Anthony Hemingway’s World War II action-drama Red Tails. The pic tells the true story of the Tuskeegee Airmen, the first African American military aviators in the United States armed forces. The group was given second-rate aircraft and supplies, but shined through the adversity and accomplished some of the most dangerous missions of World War II. I’m still not sold on the film as a whole (the cheese factor comes through a bit too often), but the visual effects and aerial battles look top-notch. Hopefully there’s more character development to be found in the full feature.

New Trailer and Poster for RED TAILS

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer and poster for Anthony Hemingway’s World War II action-drama Red Tails.  The film tells the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first all-black squadron in American history.  Despite given second-hand planes and equipment, the squadron still managed to accomplish some of the war’s most dangerous missions.  I far prefer this new trailer to the previous one.  Instead of heaping on the historical importance (and it was indisputably significant to American history, but we already know it before we’ve even see the movie), this new trailer plays up the characters and the action.

Trailer and Release Date for Producer George Lucas’ RED TAILS

The first trailer has been release for the action-drama Red Tails.  Produced by George Lucas and directed by Anthony Hemingway, the movie is based on the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first all-black African-American combat squadron who fought in World War II.  Red Tails has been in development for years but now it looks like it has finally become a reality and that reality is filled with cool aerial combat and grandiose speeches.  No one in this trailer makes a statement that is not of monumental importance to the dignity of our nation and the history of the human race.  But that’s what the trailer is designed to sell: action and gravitas but I hope the film is, at least where the dialogue is concerned, a little more grounded.

Brandon T. Jackson Interview BIG MOMMA’S: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON

by Christina Radish    Posted: February 17th, 2011 at 1:03 am

When FBI Agent Malcolm Turner’s (Martin Lawrence) teenage stepson Trent (Brandon T. Jackson) witnesses a murder, the two team up to go undercover at a performing arts school, in the hopes of catching a killer. However, since it is an all-girl school, they must go deep under, posing as Big Momma and the hefty co-ed Charmaine.  The character of Big Momma was first introduced to movie audiences in 2000′s Big Momma’s House, which went on to become a global box office sensation. Then, Big Momma’s House 2 further enriched the story of the larger than life matriarch who does whatever it takes to stop even the most hardened criminals. Now, Big Momma’s: Like Father, Like Son not only continues the story, but reinvents it for a new teen audience.

At a recent press day for the film, co-star Brandon T. Jackson talked about working with and getting advice from Martin Lawrence, looking pretty as Charmaine, what he learned about women by dressing in drag, getting to rap in the film, wanting to do his own comedy tour and the actresses he would love to work with. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

In the excruciating two-minute-and-five-second span of the trailer for Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, I counted two fatty-fall-down jokes, two-nut-shot jokes, one fat-people-are-gross joke, but all of the humor is exactly what you would expect from the third movie in the Big Momma’s House franchise.  This time Martin Lawrence is going undercover with his son because his son witnessed a crime and witness protection only works if you’re in a fat suit.  Sure, guys might want to make out with you and you won’t be able to hit on women, but that’s how Witness Protection works.  And if you’re wondering how these movies keep getting made, you should know that the previous two films grossed a combined worldwide total of $311 million.  Now try not to think of all the movies you loved that flopped at the box office.

OPERATION: ENDGAME Blu-Ray Review

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: August 31st, 2010 at 10:36 am

When a film has an eclectic cast including the talents of Rob Corddry, Zach Galifianakis, Maggie Q, Jeffrey Tambor, Ving Rhames, Emilie de Ravin, Adam Scott, Odette Yustman, Ellen Barkin, Brandon T. Jackson and Joe Anderson you’re either in for something fantastic or a complete disaster. Though the fact that this title went straight-to-DVD is somewhat of an indicator, there’s certainly a battle to be fought in deciding whether action and comedy come together to form an entertaining flick. So how does this story of two feuding teams of government assassins fare? Find out after the jump.

Bow Wow, Brandon T. Jackson, Naturi Naughton, Ice Cube and Terry Crews Interview LOTTERY TICKET

by Christina Radish    Posted: August 18th, 2010 at 1:04 pm

In the comedy Lottery Ticket, Kevin Carson (Bow Wow) is a young man living in the projects and working at a local Foot Locker, until he wins $370 million in the lottery, causing everyone to suddenly want a piece of him. Kevin quickly learns that his longtime friends Benny (Brandon T. Jackson) and Stacie (Naturi Naughton), his grandmother (Loretta Devine) and the reclusive Mr. Washington (Ice Cube) may be the only ones with his best interests at heart.

During a recent press conference for the film, co-stars Bow Wow, Brandon T. Jackson, Naturi Naughton, Ice Cube and Terry Crews talked about how much fun they had making Lottery Ticket together, what they would do if they won $370 million and how money can change people. PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF DVD Review

The gods are becoming an increasingly dominant force at the box office.  Clash of the Titans was a box office success and a sequel is on the way. Immortals with Mickey Rourke is currently in production.  And of course, we’re all looking forward to seeing Chris Hemsworth as the Norse God of Thunder, Thor, on the big screen in 2011.  However, it was Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief that had an early advantage on Hollywood’s resurrection of the gods.

Released in theaters earlier this year, The Lightning Thief is the first film based on the popular young adult novel series by author, Rick Riordan, and will be released on DVD on June 29, 2010. My review of Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief after the jump:

The Saga of BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE Continues

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 2nd, 2010 at 12:12 am

Variety reports that Martin Lawrence will return for a third installment of his cherished (by Martin Lawrence) and much-beloved (by people who are not me) franchise, Big Momma’s House.  For those unaware of the series, it’s a complex study of an FBI Agent Malcolm Turner (Lawrence) who must pose as a stereotypical old, obese black woman in order to solve crimes.  It works on so many levels.  It just happens that none of the levels are good.

This time around Turner and his 17-year-old nephew, Trent (played by Tropic Thunder‘s Brandon T. Jackson), go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder. Posing as Big Momma and Charmaine, they must find the murderer before he finds them.  Hijinks ensue.

PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF Review

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 12th, 2010 at 12:51 am

slice_percy_jackson_olympians_lightning_thief_movie_image_01.jpg

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief wants you to cheer for three characters who don’t know how to count.  Leave aside the tired hero’s journey (Have a crappy life? It turns out you’re actually special and a cool new life awaits!  Jackpot!), the awful special effects, the forgettable characters, and the complete lack of wonder Greek myths set in the modern world should offer, and you still have three protagonists who don’t know that three is less than four.  Percy Jackson wants to be the next Harry Potter, but The Boy Who Lived knows how to count higher than two and in his first adventure he’s five years younger Jackson.  Percy Jackson may be special, but it’s in that condescending way meant to imply learning disabilities.

20th Century Fox has just released 8 movie clips from director Chris Columbus’ Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.  The film stars Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Keener, Kevin McKidd, Joe Pantoliano, Uma Thurman and Melina Kanakaredes.  Here’s the synopsis:

Trouble-prone Percy Jackson is having problems in high school – but that’s the least of his challenges. It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus seem to have walked out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. Percy has learned that his real father is Poseidon, god of the sea, which means Percy is a demigod – half human, half god. At the same time, the powerful gods on Olympus are feuding, which could launch a war enveloping our entire planet.

While I saw a screening the other day, I’m under embargo, so I can’t say what I thought of the film.  But the clips do a good job of letting you know what you’re in for.  Make sure to watch the Uma Thurman as Medusa clip…
