Set Photo Roundup: PROMETHEUS, POWERS, and Vanessa Hudgens in GIMME SHELTER

We have some set photos to bring you from three different projects this afternoon. First up, we have a look at some props from director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Starring Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Ben Foster, Guy Pearce, and Noomi Rapace, the film is set in outer space and, per the synopsis, promises to provide answers for “our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.” Next, we have some tweeted pics from the set of the pilot episode of FX’s Powers. Starring Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher), Bailee Madison (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark), and Jason Patric (The Losers), the series adapts the Brian Michael Bendis comic of the same name and focuses on two homicide detectives who specialize in investigating murders involving people with superpowers.

After the jump, you’ll also find images of Vanessa Hudgens on set of writer/director Ron Krauss’ drama Gimme Shelter. Also starring Rosario Dawson and Brendan Fraser, the film centers on a pregnant teen who, after being turned away by her business-savvy father, is forced to take to the streets and, you guessed it, dumpster dive. Hit the jump to check out all of the pics. Prometheus hits theaters on June 8th, 2012 while Powers will look to make it to series this fall. Gimme Shelter is currently eyeing a 2012 release. FX Orders Series Pilot for Brian Michael Bendis Comic POWERS

I don’t know too much about comics, but I know enough to take notice when I hear “Brian Michael Bendis.”  As a TV geek, I trust the FX development process, which has produced Archer, Justified, Louie, Terriers (RIP), and Lights Out — a murderer’s row — over the last 18 months.  And so it is cause for celebration when Bendis tweets:

“Powers pilot was just greenlit by FX!  It’s official!  Your window of reading Powers while it was still cool is running out.”

Zac Efron Signs on for Universal’s FIRE

As reported by THR’s Heat Vision Blog, Zac Efron is set to headline Universal’s upcoming flick Fire, which will be adapted from Brian Michael Bendis’ graphic novel. The original property tells the tale of an ordinary college kid who’s recruited into a top-secret CIA training program that specializes in turning regular folks into superspies. In addition to starring, Efron will also exec produce alongside his manager, Jason Barret.

You heard right, people. Zac Efron is your next action hero. Stay tuned to Collider to find out which of the Four Horseman touches down on Earth first…my money’s on Pestilence. Joking aside, this is a natural next step for the High School Musical star. He got his first real taste of solo box office success with last spring’s 17 Again, a film that very much appealed to his HSM audience. Now it’s time to take away the safety net. It’s difficult to gauge just how willing the action crowd will be to embrace him. However, stepping into the role of an average guy who’s gradually transformed into an action hero throughout the course of a film is probably the best way possible to attempt the transition from singing-dancing tween pin-up to major-league ass-kicker. We’ll see if it’s enough.

Marvel @Twitter! News about the THOR Set and IRON MAN 2 Trailer in 140 Characters or Less!

It’s a bit bizarre that Twitter is so polarizing when it’s just a tool.  It’s such a weird thing to get mad at and the accusation that it’s furthering the ADD of our culture is just silly because we were gone further it anyway.  But like all tools it can be useful.  That’s why instead of sending out a press release, Marvel Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada and prolific comic writer Brian Michael Bendis can quickly give their thoughts about Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of Thor.  For instance, here’s what Bendis had to tweet: “Thor movie meeting with Ken Branagh [sic] was over the top amazing. Visited the sets! I was in Odin’s chamber!”  It’s really good news that one of Marvel’s top writers is so enthusiastic about a movie based on a Marvel project and I don’t have to re-tweet something like, “Thor movie looks like an abomination.  What have I done with my life?  Goodbye Crool World.”

But in news that was unexpected as well as exciting, @JonFavreau all but said we’re getting the first trailer for Iron Man 2 with Sherlock Holmes on December 25^th.  It makes sense seeing as folks love the Robert Downey Jr (as well they should) and he stars in both movies. This is the power and the glory of Twitter.  This is straight from the director.  Not the rumor mill, not from a leak, but from the director making use of a new technology to get fans excited.  You can also follow me on Twitter and you can follow Steve!  The possibilities are endless!
