We know that Disney filmed additional footage specifically for the DVD/Blu-ray release of Tron: Legacy, but the nature and intent was in some doubt.  It was first reported there might be a teaser trailer for Tron 3, but that appears untrue.  (Another Tron sequel still hasn’t been greenlit, mind you — though it’s close.)  Some of this footage has surfaced online as a 10:27 clip  titled “Tron: The Next Day.”  The focus is bridging the decades between the two Tron films, and the story ties heavily into the “Flynn Lives” viral campaign before Tron: Legacy‘s release.  Garrett Hedlund, Bruce Boxleitner, and Dan Shor make appearances.

The current over/under on this leaked clip is about four hours, and I’m betting on the under.  So watch “Tron: The Next Day” while you still can after the jump.

Teaser Trailer for Disney XD Animated Series TRON: UPRISING; TRON: LEGACY Score to Get Remix

After TRON: Legacy landed with a thud, I’ve found it difficult to care about where the story goes from here.  However, Disney still believes in their black-and-neon franchise and they’re moving forward with the new animated series TRON: Uprising.  The series will air on Disney XD in summer 2012 and cover the events between the original TRON and Legacy.  A teaser trailer for the series has gone online and if you loved TRON: Legacy, then you’ll probably love this too.  It has light cycles and stuff.

More promising is an upcoming remix of TRON: Legacy‘s outstanding score.  Pitchfork reports that Disney will release Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D on April 5th and it will feature M83, Photek, Moby, Com Truise, and others remixing Daft Punk’s score.  The remix soundtrack is available to buy in various special editions on the score’s official website.  Hit the jump to check out the TRON: Uprising trailer and the track list for Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D.

Details on a TRON 3 Teaser That Will Appear on the TRON: LEGACY DVD – Updated

I’m among the defenders of Tron: Legacy.  Mostly because of the visuals (duh), but I think the filmmakers put a lot of interesting ideas up on screen, then failed to explore them fully.  Legacy does not live up to its full potential, but lays the groundwork for a great sequel.

We know that Disney always hoped to establish a franchise.  The studio commissioned a sequel script last April and is reportedly very close to an official greenlight.  (Not to mention the animated series Tron: Uprising on Disney XD.)  But the extent of Disney’s planning may surprise you.  A new report suggests that Disney already has a teaser for Tron 3 in the can, and it will appear as a Tron: Legacy DVD extra.  As long as you don’t mind spoilers for the teaser or Tron: Legacy, hit the jump for details.

[Update: There's a listing for "Additional Production Material" for the Tron: Legacy DVD that, if it is this teaser, adds a bit of intrigue to the story.  Details below]

James Frain and Bruce Boxleitner Exclusive Video Interview TRON: LEGACY

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: December 18th, 2010 at 10:41 am

With TRON: Legacy finally in movie theaters, it’s time to post my final video interview and it’s with James Frain and Bruce Boxleitner.  Since the two of them have been doing so much press over the past year, I tried to have some fun with my questions.  Some of the things we talked about were what did they take home from set, did they both get a lifetime pass for Disneyland for being in Tron, working on the practical sets, and we also talked about the promotional process.

And if you missed my video interviews with Olivia Wilde, Jeff Bridges, Michael Sheen and Beau Garrett, and director Joseph Kosinski and producer Sean Bailey, just click the links.  Hit the jump for the Frain and Boxleitner interview:

TRON: LEGACY Review

TRON: Legacy is an odd sequel as it attempts to capitalize on the technologically groundbreaking but commercially unsuccessfully 1982 film TRON.  The original film has built up a cult following over the years and even managed to occasionally find its way into pop culture with South Park‘s depiction of Moses resembling the Master Control Program and the YouTube celebrity “TRON Guy”.  The sequel attempts to reinvent the series as sleek and cool, but the result is a simplistic visual style that attempts to mask a poorly-paced story filled with bland characters.  TRON: Legacy comes alive with an amazing score and some eye-catching set pieces, but the sequel makes this franchise look like it should be shutdown rather than rebooted.

Olivia Wilde Interview TRON: LEGACY

In the highly anticipated high-tech adventure sequel Tron: Legacy, actress Olivia Wilde plays Quorra, a fearless warrior who helps Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) reunite with his father, Kevin (Jeff Bridges). She is a unique program, much like a surrogate daughter, that acts as Kevin Flynn’s confidante, and has been helping him survive his life in exile. He has taught her of the outside world, so she now longs to experience what lies far beyond the realm of possibility.

When select press was invited to Digital Domain in Venice, Calif. this past Saturday, Olivia Wilde did this interview with Collider and one other online outlet, to discuss how Tron: Legacy has already exceeded all of her expectations, what her take is on the humanity in the film, doing physical stunts in heels and how Joan of Arc influenced the look of her character.

She also explained that being involved with something this massive has made her feel like she can do anything, and it definitely gave her the confidence to work with Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Sam Rockwell in her next feature, Cowboys & Aliens. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Just when you think it can’t possibly get any bigger, the annual San Diego Comic-Con manages to do just that. The exponentially growing number of attendees and non-comic book related attractions doesn’t deter it from being one of the biggest draws of the summer for fans of superheroes, sci-fi, action-adventure and all things vampire. Over the last couple of years, people have even decided to camp out on the street under tents, for a better chance to catch a glimpse of the A-list actors and filmmakers that film Hall H with their upcoming blockbusters.

While I understand that Comic-Con ended on July 25th, I went straight into attending the Television Critics Association Press Tour, where I’ve been every day since, and I haven’t had any time to post these until now. But, I got so many great photos of the folks that I interviewed that, even though Comic-Con ended awhile ago, I think the photos are still of interest.

Throughout my stay at Comic-Con, I took photos of Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds, Ali Larter & Wentworth Miller from Resident Evil: Afterlife, Chloe Grace Moretz & Kodi Smit-McPhee from Let Me In, the stars of Sons of Anarchy, the cast of Psych, Amber Heard & Nicolas Cage from Drive Angry 3D, Anna Torv & Joshua Jackson from Fringe, Maggie Q & Lyndsy Fonseca from Nikita, Daniel Dae Kim & Grace Park from Hawaii Five-0, Denis O’Hare from True Blood, filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, the cast of the U.K. series Being Human, Elisabeth Shue & Steven McQueen from Piranha 3-D, the cast of The Vampire Diaries, Jensen Ackles from Supernatural, the stars of Castle, Jeff Bridges & Bruce Boxleitner with the new co-stars of Tron: Legacy, and Bruce Willis, Karl Urban & Helen Mirren from RED. TRON: LEGACY Panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2010

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 22nd, 2010 at 1:31 pm

tron_legacy_comic_con_slice

Until today, no film had ever showed up at Comic-Con for three years running.  TRON: Legacy has now set that record.  And while it’s the movie’s third appearance, it was the first time Con-goers got to see footage from the film.  The first year, the movie blew minds with 2D test footage of a light cycle battle.  How good was that footage? It’s the reason TRON: Legacy even happened.  And while we spent the next year regaining our mind shards, the following year they showed us the same test footage but in 3D, blasting our minds apart once more.

I’m sure you can guess what happened this time around when they showed us eight minutes of the film and a new trailer.  While the Q&As were rough, the new footage was amazing.  And then we got to be part of an incredible experiment that may have yours truly and about 5,999 being heard in the movie.  Read on to learn about the panel that people will be raving about for the rest of the Con.

Walt Disney Announces ComiTRON – TRON: LEGACY Invades Comic-Con Thursday July 22

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: June 17th, 2010 at 5:38 pm

From what I’m hearing, this might be the biggest Comic-Con yet in terms of Hollywood coming to San Diego to show off upcoming projects.  I’m hearing about so many amazing things that I’m really starting to already get excited – even though amazing things equal huge lines at the Convention.  When I can say more about what I’m hearing…I promise I will.

While I thought we’d have to wait another few weeks to hear about anything official, Walt Disney has just announced (via press release) that Tron: Legacy is going to invade Comic-Con on Thursday, July 22 at 11:15am in Hall H.  On the panel will be filmmakers and talent from the film, including director Joe Kosinski, producers Sean Bailey and Steven Lisberger as wells as cast members Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen and Bruce Boxleitner. The panel discussion, to be moderated by Patton Oswalt, is set to include exclusive glimpses of the film, as well as a Q & A involving all panel participants, along with special surprise guests.  Much more after the jump:

Disney to Print TRON: LEGACY Prequel Graphic Novel

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 8th, 2010 at 8:18 am

The promotional material for Disney’s holiday tenpole TRON: Legacy will not be relegated to the “viral” and “billboard” categories, with a prequel graphic novel titled TRON: The Betrayal in the works.  League of Comic Geeks reports that Fabian Nicieza penned the 128-page novel that takes place sometime between 1982′s TRON and the decades-later sequel.  Andie Tong created the art for Betrayal, which hits stores in October 19th in advance of TRON: Legacy‘s December 17th debut.

The film features Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn from the original; he will be joined by Garrett Hedlund, Michael Sheen, Olivia Wilde, and Bruce Boxleitner.  Check out coverage from Steve’s set visit here, and hit the jump for a full synopsis.

TRON LEGACY Viral Campaign: SPACE PARANOIDS ONLINE Trailer

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 14th, 2010 at 10:44 pm

Tron Legacy viral Space Paranoids online.jpg

The Tron Legacy viral campaign continues with the release of the trailer for the brand new Space Paranoid Online game.  The game was announced at WonderCon a couple weeks ago by ENCOM exec Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) and now the teaser trailer has been posted at FlynnLives.com.  As Bradley said in his announcement, there will be 15 new levels designed by Kevin Flynn.  The only problem is that Kevin Flynn has been missing since 1989 so I wouldn’t be surprised if this new game has more going on than just retro arcade fun.  Sadly, there’s no official release date yet for the game.

While Space Paranoids Online is based on a game seen in the original 1982 Tron movie, a playable version of the video game first appeared as one of many retro arcade games at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con at the Flynn’s Arcade event.  According to Wikipedia, “The object of the game is to go through the levels and to achieve as many points as possible by destroying Recognizers. The total number of points a person can achieve is 999,000 pts, a record currently held by the gamer, FLN.”

Hit the jump to check out the teaser for Space Paranoids along with an official synopsis for Tron Legacy, which is slated to hit theaters on December 17th.

Jeff Bridges On Set Interview TRON LEGACY – Read or Listen Here

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: March 15th, 2010 at 11:02 pm

Tron Legacy movie image Jeff Bridges

If you’re looking forward to Tron Legacy, today is a great day.  That’s because Disney is finally letting me post some of the on set interviews I did in Vancouver last June when Tron was in the middle of production. While movie studios usually make you wait until a film is very close to release before they’ll let you post on set interviews, Disney has set it up so every few months I’ll be posting new Tron Legacy stuff.  It’s a unique plan that’s awesome for everyone.

As you might imagine, getting to ask Jeff Bridges questions on the set of a Tron movie was a real thrill and something I’ll never forget.  I grew up loving the original Tron and when Disney announced they were making a sequel, I pretty much freaked out.  Thankfully, now that the embargo has lifted, I can tell you everything I saw on set made me believe the sequel to Tron is going to be amazing and a film everyone will be talking about this December.

While Bridges was quite guarded with his answers, if you’re a fan of Tron, this is a must read interview as it’s JEFF BRIDGES TALKING ABOUT TRON LEGACY FOR 15 MINUTES!  As always, you can either read the transcript or listen to the audio after the jump:
